Big thankyou to Hazzard for your base sound mix, and everyone who helped with the build.
Scott, Chris, Aiden, Pinball life and Marco.

Wow, that looks amazing! Great job!

Quoted from RussMyers:

You may be able to epoxy that back together while finding a replacement.

May try that. Having trouble locating the part right now. Do you know what would cause it to break like that? Is it common for parts like that to break, or maybe I had it out of adjustment, perhaps?

#7404 3 years ago

That gothic edition is beyond awesome, it also makes me want to get a pinsound board for mine.

YES.

PinSound is a must with Hazzard's mix. That alone has kept me from selling it.

It happens. These parts are now decades old and were only meant to last 5 years or so, the expected profitable lifetime of a game in a bar or arcade.

I've seen breaks like that before; maybe something got loose and made it worse? Who knows.

Where might this BSD be from?

Something to avoid?

#7412 3 years ago

No. May be a really-import if in USA. Just check to make sure it’s set up for your voltage wherever you’re located.

My philosophy is condition is king. No different than assessing a routed game vs “HUO”. Reimports just have to be jumpered back to 120V off the transformer, and the main fuse changed from 4A to 8A. Other than that, changing to a three pronged line cord, the serial number stickers showing the old power rating its a normal game. Oh and the coin door may be a different style with a single coin slot, or a triple like the one you show (also easily changed if that bothers someone).

They were all still made in the USA, just configured electrically for europe. Some people associate reimport with games that were not taken care of. But thats also the same as assuming a HUO game was taken care of which can often be false lol.

I’m not even sure where to begin with this... that pin is badass!!!

Can you share some details about how you transformed the pin? Stunning!

Thanks!

What do you want to know???

It may be easier to do a walk around video like I did with Monster Bash and post up on my youtube channel.

Goodbye old friend.

BSD was my grail game for a long time. I had been searching for one, and I kept finding copies that didn't quite do it for me. Sometimes it was wear, sometimes it was the way they played. Just something off. And then a friend told me about an ad for this one. That was about 10 years ago. I'm not even sure if the gentleman I bought it from is still alive (I hope he is because he was really nice). It was awesome because the rubber in it was so dry it had just snapped, leaving it totally unplayable. But it was in good solid shape, and pretty unfaded (a rare game). That was about 10 years ago.

This was the first "slightly complex" playfield I had torn down. And I got to learn a lot right out of the gate. The fun of putting it back together, and then realizing the glass couldn't be put on because I put the posts in the wrong spot under the coffin (yay).

But then the fun came. Once it was playing, I played and played. At one point a friend had come over and put a big score on it, and I spent almost a year trying to beat it (I did). I understand why some people think it is shallow, but it is perfect. Some people call it a One Trick Pony, but that trick is just amazing. In my mind, BSD ranks among the best games.

Unfortunately, as with every game. Time caught up to it. I didn't hit the start button as much. I'd play other games as it languished. And then the thrill was just gone. We all know this feeling. You are playing a game, but the love is gone. You're just going through the motions to get to "30 miiillllllllliiiion", but you aren't thrilled anymore. And then it is time for the game to go.

BSD left my house with its head held high. It's now on its way to torture someone else in their quest for hammering a stake into it. I exit this club thrilled by all the fun times this game provided to me over the last decade.

Same with me. After owning 3 BSD's over the years including the last being a HEP restore, I was finished with all the high's and lows this game offered. It was becoming a museum piece more than a played pin. Let another owner enjoy it as it should. I still consider BSD one of the best games made by Williams!

Well said. This is the reason I removed all the games that I “owned in the past” in Pinside because once the game left my gameroom. I don’t want to look back.

Games I let go that I wish I had again:
STTNG
Junkyard

I think mainly the DCS sound, believe it or not!

I do the same thing. After they’re sold and totally gone, I drop them right out of my “owned in the past” list. They don’t matter, because I’d bring most of them back if I had infinite space.

My first attempt at rebuilding a machine - cabinet was in rough shape - Rad Cals and Robert stone powder coating - Still have a couple of opto errors and have to troubleshoot the start button wiring - my electrical skills are weak.

I am looking to purchase a Dracula. Does anyone have one for sale in Canada? Please let me know if anyone has one available.
Thanks

I wanted to give a shout-out here to PjM for his beautiful BSD ramp sets. Far better than I hoped and it will really elevate my restoration job to the next level, so to speak.

I did have to trim one ramp, the one that connects to the coffin lock. Definitely a bit different than the original. A coping saw worked great.

I had the same issue on mine. Shouldn't have to trim anything

Little things like that don't bother me, easily fixed. Far better than not having the option for new ramps! I can't imagine what all is involved with making these things.

I also really appreciate the extras like the decals and the metal parts these came with. real time-saver. I recall years ago when new ramps were bare-bones and one had to source the flaps, rivets, tooling, etc.

You can "purchase" a Dracula. But you won't own it. It will own you!

Going through parts today for games I no longer own and came across this, it is NOS WMS with decals. If you need it, PM me.

PM sent. Trying to restore a Players Condition game here.

I started to get weak ball launches recently, I suspected that the ball was maybe hitting the lip of the ramp. Couldn't figure it out, so I took some slo-mo videos using my phone. Great diagnostic tool! Seems that the ball is hitting the edge of the castle wireform after launch sometimes, so I'll have to unscrew it and see if I can move it back a touch.

This is my new BSD that I brought home last week. Took a chance on buying it and having it shipped to me without seeing the actual game but overall pretty happy with it.

Congrats on joining the club! BSD is such a fantastic pin. Few pins feature rules as concise as BSD or combine multiball modes as effectively. It’s not overly complex, yet it’s such a challenge to stack all 3 mb modes for the big points. Plus, throw in rats and bats bonuses and a solid video mode and it’s just about perfect, in my book. It taunts you and compels you to hit start one more time. A top 10 pin for me.

These lightning flippers are kicking my ass. The release points are difficult to judge compared to normal size flippers. Just need some practice I guess.

I've got normal size on mine and it's still difficult to judge. The left ramp seems to be fairly late on the right flipper.

Not too worry I have a black rubber set in the mail. Hopefully it shouldnt be too bad to change all the rubbers.any tricks or hints to watch out for? Also have new side rails I have to install, seems like the head has fallen sometime in the past and damaged the rails.

Hey guys,

Speaking of the original lightning flippers, were those more so to add difficulty to the game or necessary to hit certain ramps?

#7447 3 years ago

Magno
If you remove the main ramp, place it where you can keep the original bend in place. On mine, the lip sat high until gravity bent it back into shape. It was very frustrating

Also, if you remove the coffin ramp, beware of the standoffs. One is just a bit longer than the other, and it will drive you nuts if they are reversed. You won’t notice it until it’s all back together and you play a game, then notice the ball doesn’t seem correct when traversing the right ramp.

#7448 3 years ago
Quoted from Norcalpin:

Hey guys,
Speaking of the original lightning flippers, were those more so to add difficulty to the game or necessary to hit certain ramps?

Quoted from soren:

On one of the TOPcast interviews, this is revealed. I believe it is the Mark Richie one.
The French distributor was at the Williams plant test driving a Fish Tales prototype. He was unhappy with the ball time and said "Hey, how about making the flipper's smaller". And so they did. I don't think the position of flipper shafts was changed.
A quick decision to agree on a quick suggestion from a guy responsible for a significant sale of games. And that's why.
Now, I know that the distributers made feedback and had certain elements of game designs altered based on that (some relevant and good, some not). As well as cause some games to never see production. But this one seems a little too silly, I think.
Also, I have a theory, that the German and French distributors had an unsaid rivalry, as to who could drag Williams around by the nose the most. In other words. The French wasn't eager to go along the Germans. And I bet Williams never caught this. I mean, just look that the very small differences on the difficulty pre-sets based on selected region. Come on.

https://www.flippers.be/pinball/williams/bramstokersdracula/bram_stokers_dracula.html

Excerpt from the above URL.

This game came from the factory with small yellow 'lightning' flippers installed (similar to the ones used on Fish Tales).
These flipper bats are shorter than regular ones. The game however was designed to have regular flipper bats but shorter ones were added for production to decrease game time. Installing regular bats is a big improvement to gameplay. Some shots are easier to make, or feel at least more natural, whilst drains through the middle don't decrease noticeable. So if you find the game hard because some shots are difficult, put regular flipper bats on the game.
