Quoted from Darscot:

I think you looking at the pictures in reverse She did clean up well but not immaculate. Kinda a mid level restore.

Didn’t say immaculate it’s immamaculate! It was a throwback to the old Baywatch fs thread. Specifically the image of the game set up with no legs

Oh I didn’t get it, thought it was just a typo.

A little more progress - If I was to do it again I probably would of tried to move the decal down just a bit but I would of needed to of thought of that when I put the door decal on as it has to match up with the blue that wraps around to the front. I still think it looks good as the cabinet was thrashed as it had a 2"x8" hole in the front that an operator cut out so the could slide in and out a coin tray (never seen that before). I tried to source a donor cabinet but never found one so I ended up fixing the hole and very happy how it turned out. Now need to go back and continue to work on the playfield.

That's the one. If you have access to a laser cutter I will happily share the vector file.

In case anyone is looking for a really nice BSD.

#7258 47 days ago

Hello all, I had a problem with the dreaded mist ball for some time.

When powering up the machine the ball would load into the right pocket and then the gate would open and drain the ball.

It would do this a couple of times and once the machine had been on a few minutes it would start working ok when powering the machine off and on.

Sometimes the ball would fall off the magnet near the left pocket too.

Now the ball continually drains when powering on to the point where it ignores the error and most isn't available.

The checks I've done so far are visually inspecting the 24 opto board, caps look good, inductor is in good shape and the power led is on.

On switch test ball on magnet 82 shows continually closed not open.

I assume it should be open unless the beam is broken by a ball or my hand.

The transmitter is lighting up on my phone but apart from that I'm stumped why the switch is closed all the time and not open as it should be on test.

I'm hoping someone can give me a pointer as all the posts I've read talk about the permanently open switch not closed.

Thank you.

#7259 47 days ago

Ok, changed the caps and tested the inductor all good.
Getting 13.3v at the board.
All other functions on the pinball are good.
Disconnected both optos from the board switch stays closed.
Disconnect power from the board and the switch goes open so I'm guessing a board fault??

#7260 46 days ago

I've ordered a new 24 opto board from here.

https://www.ministryofpinball.com/en/catalog/product/view/id/5679/s/opto-24-switch-board-a-15646/category/116/

Not a homepin board as out of stock here.

This board costs less too.

Also I ordered the two opto boards from this company just in case.

I'll post back once it arrives and I install it.

Having issues with shots to the left ramp, I have rebuilt the flippers and installed new coils now they appear too strong!

As left ramp shots sometimes bounce out of the right return and fly anywhere... Drain usually!
Also when the diverter is trying to divert a left ramp shot to the castle on the right the ball jumps off the ball guide and onto the left ball guide and down to the village on the left, or off and back on to the playfield.

Any suggestions please.

What is your playfield pitch. Should be in the 6.5 degree range and dead level side-side.

I had a really high pitch after shopping my BSD and had the same problems. I lowered it a bit and the ball seemed to slow just enough to keep the ball from slinging out of the ramps.

#7269 30 days ago

jrawlinson_2000 - I am also curious. How many leg bolt holes are in the cabinet of your BSD at the corners?

I have seen multiple WPC games that had been in the UK that had three holes instead of two.

Can anyone tell me the best way to install the Mezel Mods flickering torches? How do these attach? Glue? Tape?

Thank you!

I had to shave them down to fit flush again the tombstone and use a small piece of stong two sticky tape. I love these. I also Added comet fire flickering bulbs. Looks sweet

My BSD I just got is a re-import, and has 3 leg holes instead of two. I removed the tiny, original leg bolt brackets inside each corner of the cab and installed the larger, wide Bally/WMS replacement brackets, on the higher 2 holes. This resulted in my game being the correct height again. If I use the bottom 2 holes with the original threaded brackets, it sat an inch or two above my other pins.

I’m not sure why these games had an extra hole drilled. Does someone know?

Yeah, that's pretty much my method, too - I replace the brackets with the good ones from PBL.

I have no idea why they did that either, but I have seen it on at least 5 or 6 reimport WPC games back from the UK.

If anyone by chance happens to have a spare A-16424 -- 3 flash lamp assy let me know.

This is the 3 flash lamp PCB that goes behind "Love Never Dies" on the speaker/display assembly.

Went to give mine the once-over as I am fixing up my BSD and lo and behold it has a 7 lamp #555 PCB in there instead! Checked the part # it is from an The Addams Family.

And a home made MDF panel to boot.

#7276 25 days ago

Anyone have an extra center 3 bank target plastic lying around?

#7278 21 days ago

I am looking at getting a PCB made for the A-16424 3-lamp flasher board in the speaker panel since mine is missing. Learning KiCad and straining my minimal electrical knowledge...

I am looking at my "other" BSD that I have been using for reference. It has the board (thank goodness) but also has 13v LEDs in the sockets, and is being powered by a tap of 12V from the 24-opto board connector. Any thoughts on why a previous owner did this? It has a colour display is this somehow part of switching to the colour display?

#7279 21 days ago

It's real easy to just use a 12V LED strip. I initially had a cool white in mine but switched it to red. I would just use a strip and save the time and effort, it looks way better as well. I have a color DMD in mine but did not tap into the 24 Opto that seems weird.

#7280 21 days ago

So you're using the original +20V that powered the flash lamp board?

#7281 21 days ago
Quoted from dr_nybble:

So you're using the original +20V that powered the flash lamp board?

Here is a picture of what I did for the light board, same as mentioned above. Two strips of red 12vdc soldered onto the flash lamp connector.

Quoted from dr_nybble:

So you're using the original +20V that powered the flash lamp board?

I just took the socket from a 555 LED and wired the strip into it and plugged it into the board. I think you can just wire a strip right into the plug that normally goes into the board.

From the post above I should have done that I never thought to do two.

P.S. One other thing, when I did a 12v white strip it kinda blinked on and off, I used a RGB strip just soldered to the red it kinda fades and matches the voice better, I recommend that you use a dimmable strip.

Don't know how these PCB fabrication places make any money. It was around $50 Canadian for 5 boards shipped with customs + taxes paid.

Mr Tantrum's flipper toppers. These are sized for regular bats but these IMO fit fine on lightning bats as well, just make sure to center them.

Pics are of my BSD, which has lightning bats.

Lots of time on my hands being off of work with the Pandemic. I was collecting the parts for a rainy day so. Reshopped my BSD with new ramps, plastics, ColorDMD, speaker panel and Titan silicon bass. Pin sound and Flipper fidelity upgrades also. Tumbled all metal. Ground off the rust off the transformer block.
