Just joined the club. Great game!
Question; On the speaker panel,do the 4 lights corresponding to the 4 faces stay lit all the time?
Thanks

They are not interactive. They are lit all the time. Congrats on your acquisition.

I'm working on a mod for this with a friend where each face lights as per game play position.

I am have working light bulb that never seems to light. Top right just above the helmet near the controlled gate to the mini playfield. Looks like Yellow-Orange and Red wires, #555 lamp, diode. I believe the wires feed through the playfield behind the helmet to a connector,

Any ideas on when it is supposed to light, where in the test menu I should look?

It flashes when the pinbot playfield is open.

Yep, It should flash at the same time as the left ramp shuttle light.

Hi guys,
Have always been having an issue on mine that I'd like to eventually tackle.
When it's releasing the 2 balls for multiball, the rod goes down for a while releasing both balls at once instead of dropping shortly twice.
Any idea on how to solve that?

Check that there aren't any clearance issues first . Then disassemble and clean/ check for wear .

Change the coil sleeve and clean the plunger. That’s what I did to stop mine from doing this.

Was so simple that I now feel stupid not having thought of that...

Does anyone have a good pic of the wiring for each of the pop bumper lights that they would be willing to share? It's the last thing I have to do on the underside of my playfield swap and the pictures I took before disassembly aren't great.

Thanks

#1916 3 years ago

Hope these help. I'm assembling the underside of my playfield now.

I am curious about possible bulb cover colors used for lites in the eyes, mouth and above the right of the helmet.

The manual says that a red lite cover goes on the mouth bulb, but nothing about the others. I guess that maybe the eyes had blue covers based on the eye color on the backglass. Or maybe they had nothing given nothing is indicated in manual. And what about the bulb above the right side of helmet? The following topic had a bit of discussion on this bulb with one person (crujones4life) saying that it should have had a green cover on it. But again, I didn’t see anything in the manual.

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/bop-extra-lamp-37-space-shuttle#post-5733809

I don’t have any recollection of something as minor as this when these machines were first routed (nearly 30 yrs ago!). And it’s not a big deal, but just was curious if there’s any good info on this.

#1918 3 years ago

A friend of mine and his son, came over today to play some pinball. The teenager who had never played pinball in his life, came over to me after playing every one and said, "that Bride of Pinbot plays tight!"

I felt like a proud papa.

I messed up in the previous post—the manual says red on eye bulbs not mouth (see below).

Does anyone have ideas about what if any color covers were used on the mouth bulb and the bulb on upper right of helmet? I assume that they had nothing given that there is no info on covers listed in manual for these bulbs (like there are for the eyes).

You had it right the first time. Look how the micro switch is oriented in the photo. That’s the mouth switch with the red cover, the eyes had no cover. I upgraded to led so I just used a red lamp in mouth and white for the eyes

Edit: never mind on the switch orientation. That diagram isn’t 100% accurate. I can tell you when I got mine it had not been maintained and was basically untouched. It had a red cover on the mouth and nothing on the eyes.

I specifically remember when playing this machine out in the wild 28 years ago that the light up by the helmet was clear with no color condom.

Yeah - Mouth is red, eyes are plain white.

Mine has a green condom. Seems like it should be there. Like green for go...gate is open.

Player's choice IMHO. Following by the book is outlined above in prior responses.
There is "right" and then there is "right for me".

In the pic you can see, I used a red LED in mouth, blue LEDs in eyes, and a purple LED for the mini PF entrance.
I also swapped the pop bumper caps and lamps with colors respectively.

Some folks will say this is pornography or heresy, but i love the way she looks when she plays.

I may have to switch that out.

I’ve got mine as red mouth, white eyes and white pinbot playfield light. That’s how it was presented in incandescent form to me so I kept it that way in LED form

Hi guys new owner checking in. I just picked it up over the weekend. Was in a home for over 25 years. The only problem with that is huge difference when a game is home owned by a active collector or home owned by someone who don't have a clue about pinball. This was the later. Really nice guy and I got this really cheap but... I mean pretty much free cheap. He said it "was working" (must have meant was working years ago) I pulled the backglass to find a battery mess! Looks like the AA's blew up and rather then changing out the battery holder or even remote mounting one, this "tech" he called out some years back literally soldered a AA battery to the holder and board to make the connection! The other 2 batteries were blowing up as well. Told the guy "just change the other two AA's" Yikes! Well that made a mess. I have a spare CPU so I'll be tossing that in to see if I can get some life out of her.

As of now it boots, I get the sound from the audio board booting up, and a few bulbs come on around the crown light and that's it. Surprised all the connectors on the main board look great. Figured the GI molex would be burned up but it's all clean. Even the solder connections on the back of the board look good. I did get some corrosion on the smaller .100 connectors on the CPU board I'll have to change them out. PF is pretty planked and whooped as you can see. Might do a PF swap not sure yet how deep I want to get into this one. But I'll get it up and working in the meantime and get the bugs out of it!

I just pulled my BOP out of storage since it was next up for a shop job. The cabinet is in good shape with no fade....actually the whole game is pretty nice for an old game (all original, no mods/toys). I was wondering if I should mylar the playfield. There is no factory mylar on it now. Im not going to keep it so will adding the mylar hurt the value? I added some pics of the playfield.

No. Won't add value. If whoever you sell it to wants to put it on, they can.
I would advise that person not to, however. As long as it's kept clean with good condition balls, you should not need mylar in home use.

I don't ever remember seeing these in stock! I was lucky enough to get a set of early reproductions that never made it to production. You can clean yours with soap and water and treat them with leather conditioner .

A guy two pages back used titan silicone rubbers doubled up to approximate the rollers. Looks pretty good. Could be used in a pinch.

Doing a playfield swap on mine then it will be listed for sale. New playfield new plastics new mini playfield new ramps LEDs you name it.

Hi guys,

I finally managed to get my hands on a decent BOP. Got the 3d back glass, LEDs, those track light things along the side and the little plastic shuttle mod. Oh and that topper came with it too...

First thing I did was replace the batteries, which were expired as of 2018, so who knows how long they were in there. No leakage or damage to the board though, I feel like I dodged a bullet. ROM is out of date as well, Rev L-3. I don't know if I want to go through the trouble of upgrading it or not.

It's in pretty good condition, though it does need to be cleaned, particularly in the hard to reach places.

Well my acid damage mess is all fixed! The CPU needed some headers and a crap load of traces repaired on the back. Put some new molex connectors on, fired it up, and worked 100% right out of the beyond acid damaged mess. Was kinda shocked it fired up and plays so well. NVram is working and doing it's thing so no more acid issues! I think it came out good for a $500 BOP pick up a few weeks ago

I’m back in the club and planning on staying this time! I picked up a pretty nice BOP last week with an unfaded cabinet and cosmetically pretty nice, just needs a good cleaning and some issues sorted out. The game played perfectly with no issues when I picked it up, once I got it home and set up, a few things stopped working. The cpu had some acid damage that had been cleaned and one of the connectors needed replaced. I went ahead and ordered a new rottendog cpu and replaced the J207 connector. The issues that have come up are, the helmet lights stopped working along with some insert lights, mainly on the big light board under the playfield and a few others. Also the left sling shot registers hits but the solenoid doesn’t fire. Also the balls don’t kick out into the shooter lane. Wondering if anyone has any ideas of what could be wrong and if they are related. I did go through and reseat all the connectors and didn’t find any loose wires anywhere.

Most likely need to flow solder on those boards. I'd check there first. I just shopped mine out and I found a ton of cold solder points on all those connectors. What are you doing with your old CPU board? I could use some parts from it to fix another one I have. Would be nice to get a working one out of 2. Let me know thanks.

I have an odd problem with my machine. On startup the lights seem to be stuck in "attract" mode. When you begin the first game after turning it on the heart lights and both sets of right hand loop lights will flash on and off randomly and the wheel alternates between the small wheel being fully lit and the big wheel being fully lit.

Those lights should be off and the wheels should be spinning together slowly.

The game still works, the lights respond as they should when triggered, the wheels spin, the loop lights will light up and function properly until they timeout and then they go back to randomly lighting up.

After a little while though, the problem just stops and the lights do what they are supposed to, until you power cycle the game, then the behavior resumes. I have tried various things to try to figure out what causes the problem to stop, rotating the head, not rotating the head, playing a few games, immediately losing a few games. I think it is just after enough time goes by the problem just corrects itself.

I am thinking that it may be an issue with the firmware on the machine. It is running Rev L-3. I have ordered a Rev L-6 chip and will see if that fixes it. But just in case that's not it, anyone seen anything like this before?

Thanks.

#1944 3 years ago

The wheel lights fully lighting alternating between big and small wheel is the correct lighting sequence for the ball prelaunch. Once the solenoid for the skill shot kick out fires is when they should change to the spinning pattern.

#1945 3 years ago
Quoted from Jmckune:

Yeah but they don't. They stay in that mode until the wheel gets spun. Then they spin the wheel like normal and then they go back to the alternating.

It's weird. And like I said, eventually after a few games it stops doing it and all the lights behave as normal.

#1946 3 years ago

It must have been either a bug in L-3 or the factory reset that I did after installing L-6 fixed it, because after putting L-6 in the problem went away.

EDIT: Ehh, looks like I spoke too soon. It's doing it again, actually it looks a little worse now, now the "extra ball" and "one more time" lights are doing it. Although, it still goes away after a few minutes, and I think it is actually going away faster than it was.

I circled the lights. The ball is in play, those lights shouldn't be on right now. The lights in those groups randomly flash on and off (except the 1b heart), and while this picture doesn't show it, the "Ball locked when lit" light is flashing, even though there is no ball locked. This time the wheel looks to be behaving normally and this time the extra ball lights aren't flashing... but sometimes they do.

Thanks, I’ll have to start flowing. As far as the old cpu, I’m open to reasonable offers. Would be sold as is bare board, had cleaned up acid damage I’m not sure how extensive so I’d list it as is non working.

Finally rebuilt my flippers and the right side coil sleeve was hard to get out and very hard to get back in. So I had a new blue wrapper coil laying around. Blue has a little more balls then the red wrapped coils. Well I'm glad I did! I was having a hard time getting the ball up the left ramp with that right flipper before and was struggling to shoot the little wheel but with the new blue wrapper coil it fly's up that ramp now! Nothing like playing a pin with fresh caps on the driver board, new cabinet switches, and complete rebuilt flippers. Really make the game play fast and you can make some nice shots.
