When I flip on my Tales from the Crypt, the GI/inserts light up and it fires a few of the coils. Then it immediately gets "stuck". All of the coils that fired stay on and it doesn't go any further. Nothing displays on the DMD, but it seems like where it gets stuck in the boot process that's normal maybe. How should I go about troubleshooting this? Anyone else had this problem or know what it might be? Thanks in advance!

I'm not home now to check, but will when I get back. Not sure if it helps, but this happens immediately once I turn it on and if I leave it on for any longer than a couple of seconds the crypt kicker coil starts smoking.

The crypt kicker is the kickback on the left outlane. The coil is underneath the left side of the apron.

Awesome! Will do and report back. Thanks!

None of the boot lights click on. Resistance is at 4 ohms for the kicker. Wrapper says 3.9, so should be good there.

After looking over the cpu board, it looks like one chip is a little more discolored than most. It says goldstar and a bunch of letters/numbers. I took a pic of it and a close up. Could that thing be the cause? It's right below where the lights are.

Here's a video of what happens when I turn it on.

I found the q13 transistor on the cpu board, but which of the pins do I put my dmm on? So sorry, I'm a newbie at all this. I've attached an image of the area of my CPU with the q13 transistor if it matters.

Also, this may matter as well, initially when the problem started the right bumper would lock on as well (in addition to the kicker).

Thanks for your help and sorry again about the newbie questions...

Quoted from dc2010:

Okay, that additional info is important, you have 2 coils having driver issues, check schematic, I'll bet they are on the same path, as for testing, the transistor will either be NPN or PNP, simply neg, pos, neg or pos, neg,pos
You won't hurt anything testing, start by putting the negative lead on the center lug and positive on either edge, if that's wrong simply swap,
Let us know the reading

I got 5.3 mohms

Whoops. Ok, it's 0.52

I thought between 0.4 and 0.7 is good?

Alright, I've traced back through the best I could. I found the pre-driver which checked out ok. Could the problem be on the ppb board? I found a series of transistors on the ppb that didn't register like you said they should. They're in the pic. Q1 reads around 0.5. the rest read about 0.12 on one end and nothing on the other pin. Q4 is involved with the laser kickback.
None of those are involved in the right bumper though. I've also attached pics of the schematics with the "laser kickback" in them if it would help.
