Everyone helps...

Paint will take 10 days to thoroughly dry.
Time enough I hope to prepare the cabinet and decals for that I hope.

#52 3 years ago

Put the boards and light panrl back in and... Just couldn't wait and at least had to apply one decal ( without the lock hole).

WP_20200724_23_06_35_Pro (resized).jpgWP_20200724_23_06_35_Pro (resized).jpgWP_20200724_23_47_03_Pro (resized).jpgWP_20200724_23_47_03_Pro (resized).jpg

And yes, color is a bit off but the precut decal fits like a charm!

Very happy!

Glad the battery board installed fast!

Lol.

But since I ordered earlier ones before: It really fits like a dream, no force at all required.

Essential upgrade imho.

Just found this thread.
Everything looks great. Can't wait to see the playfield artwork.
Hopefully this will get me motivated on my on project pin.

The cab long has been completely prepped and my last days were so shitty I just called work quits early for today and started to continue drawing on this...

bonkers.jpgbonkers.jpg

And no it's not the final lineart, Text is missing as well as the people in the car.
(Since I have to lay them out multiple times to be able to mirror the image.)

What has changed is that there's more stuff happening in the background, to be able to include basically every character from the game.

YES! I was hoping this project was still going

#58 3 years ago

Characters are in, details might still change but I'll start coloring now...

The worlds slowest total conversion continues...

Srsly, it's finally summer vacation, I have a bit of spare time on my hands and I was very unsatisfied with Mirandas face before so...

Continuing (not yet done)...

vacation.jpgvacation.jpg

I finally ordered new legs & stuff (due to covid (?) they were gone everywhere) so I can reassemble the game this weekend.
Would be nice to at least have the side artwork done by then.

#61 2 years ago

That looks incredible! I'd love to have half of your drawing talent...

You ain't got nothing on my Voltron in that department! I'm still YEARS ahead...err...BEHIND OF YOU!

Thanks, but that's kinda the problem. Since I do this for living, it has become very rare that I sit down and draw just for fun. XD
(So don't praise me, I'll just break everyones heart. )

Quoted from Frax:

With the Success of Ultraman, you now have a possible challenger! Can you finish it before Spooky (maybe) does it...

#64 2 years ago

Honestly? Probably not. I'm going to spend the next year paying for my Ultraman BSE before I can even think about returning to trying to get ahold of a WPT...

#65 2 years ago

Sideart done! (Edit: Allready making changes. XD)

Now I have to properly measure the cab, and get this thing printed...

sideart.jpgsideart.jpg

After that propably no updates for the next 6 months, as always... XD

#66 2 years ago

The side decals are in the printing studio, hoping to get them this week.

So now for the front decal...

seiten.jpgseiten.jpg

And I'm a giant idiot messing up my initials in the number plate TWO TIMES!!! XD
(I didn't notice because this here are the letters my actual car has (wich is pretty close to my initials). -_-; )

Oh, my...

#67 2 years ago

Lesson learned: Clean off the dust before applying decals.
Immediate next: Polish the siderails.

#68 2 years ago

That looks fantastic. Can't wait to see the rest of it!

#69 2 years ago

So, head is back on. Siderails polished/ buffed. New Flipper Buttons. (New Legs, screws and feet as well) Painted the backbox hinge as well as all visible screws and got them back on. New Snap latch on the back, but…

…srsly anyone can show me photos of the screw inside and outside of the cabinet that holds the playfield? I forgot to take pictures and it took me far too long to get this far, so… XD

(Edit: Found it, but one rubber ring is missing.)

So, Police Force is mostly reassembled, and since I‘m not too good at this (and the parts lay around all over the place for 1,5 years) I‘m proud it‘s still working… well for the most part.

Buffed and painted nearly everything, took me 2 hours for the lockbar alone but I‘m mostly happy. (Dented coin door is still dented.)

Printed out the manual and going trough switch problems while waiting for some parts.

Obviously the front decal is still missing so I‘m on that.
As you may see I replaced the white Start Button with a lit Stern one. (It’s working but not yet lit.)
This will be used as the green traffic light in the decal.)

Cool project and great work. I always thought this game would be neat to retheme into Tim Burton's Batman, since that was the original intent.

Definately, but since you can‘t change the music or callouts that easily that‘s a way tougher job.

My goal for now is to get the game working and the cab done. Backglass later, Playfield waaay later and not touching code for the most part. XD

I bought the Bonkers home video "I Oughta Be In Toons" off eBay. It's one of the few surviving VHS tapes of the show. I'll capture and upload it if you want more source material for ideas.

Wow, I didn't know you were doing this DS_Nadine. Very cool project! Also, I have seen some very enterprising folks manage to get custom music and callouts into these old games. Not sure what it takes, but I've seen people using arduinos and mini-computers and stuff like that to do some pretty neat stuff.

Did the additional video material help with anything?

Oh, hi wow you guys! XD

Sorry, made myself rare. Thing is not dead but I am... kinda. XD

Thx for the episode links. I have the VHS tapes and "i guess" the whole series... in german in mediocre quality; so I'll definatly look in your links Crash !

As for DakotaMike , since Pinsound won't work here, redoing the sound package is not an option at the moment.

To be blunt I'd be happy if I ever get that alternate art package done. - I'm not doing any tinkering in general at all at the moment (life stuff), wich is a bummer, but the machine is set up again; kids just played it last week and want to see the series again. So I'll definately get back to that. - In the meantime I hope to find a new spinner.

Any updates on the game?

Uh... life threw a lotta curveballs here, but the project isn't dead, altough I can not spare much time.

So I did buy a beat up playfield, scanned it (nearly a year ago) and made myself an insert map of the playfield (today) so I can come up with new art.

Last week I disassembled the playfield upperside, ordered some cold spray to peel the mylar off (hope to get to that this week) and am trying to rebuild that working, but like-a-mess-looking spinner. Will post photos of that when I get that to work.

Most important thing for me is that I can print out a couple of copies of that playfield/insert map and sketch around.
Also messing around trying to make new plastics (trying to cut acryl glass with a plotter) wich is... "fun". XD

So I watched some Bonkers, made me some Photos of scenes and location I could use.

So, when retheming that playfield that Star in the Center if the Playfield and that oval "Police" can't move of course, but it would be nice to integrate that somehow better. So when I wacthed some Episodes I stumbled upon this oval window in the Police Headquarters. Why not write "Police" on that Window...

IMG_8271 (resized).JPGIMG_8271 (resized).JPG

So Now we would have the Protagonists watching the Police Station. That's... dull I guess. So how could I manage to get that more appealing AND work the baddies in AND maybe make ist so the whole thing is (vor the most part) really 'one picture' and not a collage?

Just blow the f*****' roof to bits and lat the baddies escape via Jet Packs. I mean you jail them again and again anyway in the game...
(And yeah, the shark falls of because he has no arms to wear that Jetpack, it all makes complete sense)

skizze1 (resized).jpgskizze1 (resized).jpg

And yes I used (in that sketch) that radio towers triangle shape to integrate an insert, forgot an Arrow, Toots is the "Shoot again",... so this is all still very loose but it's shaping a picture...

Back to that "Police". - What if I don't write it at all. The playfield overlay sticker I'd print wouldn't say anything but that sticker is printed with 5 colors. So CMYK and white as a backing color. That is so the overlay can be transparent, so you can see the inserts. But the rest will be backed by white color to hide the old playfield art. So if the Poice Headwaurters Windows are Dark anyway I can just leave off the letters "P" "O" "L" "I" [...] in the white backing. So you wouldn't see th letters when they're actually lit. -> That could be great (or a total disaster).

Is that playfield contour map something you'd be willing to share? An art redo on my own Police Force might be in its distant future, and having a template already would be incredibly helpful.

#84 1 year ago

Thx, but I have them all. - But I may give them a listen, to learn all the original names (they translated the names of all baddies and sidecast that names had a meaning).

Quoted from Gornkleschnitzer:

I'll print out my sketch when it's done and see how accurate I worked first, but then you can have it.

Problem is I scanned the playfield in small chunks and put als the little pices back together in Photoshop, so it's not 100% accurate.

Those are Disney+ rips from the native US region so nothing should be translated in those dubs.
