If it puts the player in the role of Bond, hurry-ups are gonna be damn fun.

#190 1 year ago
Quoted from Starscream:But that last film, Jesus. What on earth where they thinking

Oh damn, was it woke cringe? I have a Skyfall allergy because of the "mommy doesn't love me" angle.

#331 1 year ago

I actually thought Spectre was the other decent Daniel Craig one. Casino Royale is a hoot, the action sequences go to 11 but they keep a straight face, it's a great time.

#355 1 year ago

Wonder if this one keeps the Stern streak going. Another top 10 for Gomez? Be funny if its release coincides with the TS4 CE debuting at #1. By then the number of ratings for the CE will be hitting 30, and it's bound to debut at #1 because flippers are throwing a hail mary with spamming the ratings with "so much better than people think!" reviews.

Both of those kinda suck.

Quoted from izzymonkey:

Daniel Craig, however, is easily the closest to Fleming's depiction in the books--even if Fleming himself wanted David Niven from the start.

When you learn that a pinball machine about James Bond has more toys in it than a 15k machine about toys called Toy Story...

#496 1 year ago
Quoted from troon47:

If it's Sean Connery-centric and not all of the films...and not a Beatles-type disaster, I'm in.

It sounded like Gomez was all-in on Connery being HIS Bond spirit animal. Certainly felt like it's going to be a parallel of Batman '66, which focused on one specific Batman and era. Or the way GZ sticks with one iteration of Godzilla. Gives the theme a nice unity with the assets and tone.

#537 1 year ago

Gomez once said in an interview (the movie Tilt), about the Williams/Bally days, "When you own 80% of the market, the competition isn't down the street, the competition is down the hall." (Lawlor, Ritchie, Eddy, etc.) That's what has me excited, designers at Stern raising their game because of the new blood down the hall (Elwin, Eddy v2)

Hmmmm....maybe a re-skinned retro machine, like they did with Beatles?

Quoted from RGR:

Just hoping it doesn't get screwed like Star Wars

Not likely. SR seemed to be in a design rut which he blamed on Stern, but Deadpool shows that Gomez is still in his creative prime.

Quoted from J85M:

Lucky then Borg isn’t on Bond we would have got a recycled GOTG layout, with a JAWS ball lock in place of Groot.

To be fair, TMNT and Rush are really fun to shoot.

Does anyone remember why Franchi was bounced by Stern? I remember he had done something that was the kind of thing you expect to get fired for, but can't remember what it was...

#691 1 year ago
Quoted from Crumbalimb:

Franchi said on a podcast that he was not getting enough work so he moved on.But guess thats what a lot of people say when they get fired.

Found the thread, here area couple of the upvoted answers...

"Seems like Franchi just can't keep his mouth shut about a variety of topics that amount to airing too much of the dirty laundry. I am sure Stern didn't appreciate a lot of that. Wouldn't be surprised if they don't give him another project."

"It has nothing to do with politics. Stern is running a business and dealing with major licencors. If Franchi leaks art in violation of the terms of a license, or burns a bridge with a licencor costing Stern a deal, then real people suffer. Stern loses money, Stern might have to lay off people. "Sorry you are getting laid off, but our art guy's just got no filter, unlike all the other adults who understand how to behave at work."

holy damn, had a feeling Bond was gonna be nuts in a wonderful way, and there it is...crazy 60's spy world under glass

11
#883 1 year ago
Quoted from fourvdean:

thank god there is no lcd screen under the glass

Seeing a new packed playfield like this makes the corner screen in TS4 even more embarrassing than it already was.

#903 1 year ago

No wonder Gomez was so eager to leak details about it. Looks like such a love letter to classic Bond.

#1025 1 year ago

There was a HUGE boxing event in the UK that didn't happen on Saturday because of the Queen's passing. The delay was to be expected, actually.

#1030 1 year ago

But the leaked pictures confirm what we needed to know, that the design and layout definitely has some wow to it.

Stern, when they reveal the price.

If the MSRP of a packed Bond LE turns out to be cheaper than the MSRP of the cheapest TS4, the epic fail of TS4 cannot be overstated.

All genuinely powerful and influential countries are a mixed bag of generosity and horror.

#1124 1 year ago
Quoted from Psw757:

Wondering if the tank does something when top target hit. It looks like it’s multiple pieces and not just a one piece sculpt.

Looks like that front part extends to push the captured ball off? Would be amazingly cool if so.

#1193 1 year ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Sean Connery is one of the worlds easiest impressions next to shatner, hopefully they got one!

I think if you're in the role of Bond, it makes more sense that the voice directing you is either Q or M (or both)...?

#1199 1 year ago
Quoted from DS_Nadine:

Playfield art is… definately a throwback.

The little face photos are definitely a callback to the movie posters of the era.

The more I look at the art, the more it reminds me of Bally/Williams era games.

Yeah. I also see 60's era movie poster / lobby card.

Quoted from Knucklehead:

I'm a little confused that there's not a model dedicated to From Russia With Love. I'd say arguably one of the best bond films ever made and the film out of all of Connery's I'd want a machine themed as. Wonder if that's gonna be a $20,000+ release after the fact like Elvira. But none the less still super excited.

I think anything "Russia" might be a bit touchy right now...

#1603 1 year ago
Quoted from cooked71:

You can’t unbox a game in public and not expect “leaks”. And there’s no way they cancelled the launch because of those “leaks”.
I think it’s partially out of respect but mostly it’s a bad time to launch anything in the UK. You’re trying to get the attention of media/news/anyone and there is literally no room left for anything other than the Queen. Just unfortunate timing.

Got a pal in the UK, can confirm, just about everything dealing with publicity and entertainment came to a complete halt.

Yeah I think the Premium looks like an amazing game. I'm surprised people aren't going crazy or more crazy for this game. Layout looks different in a very good way. I want to play 007 for sure.

Before folks started hating on the translite and then the shutdown, the layout and toys were getting a big thumbs up.

1.Skyfall
2.Casino Royale (Craig)
3.Diamonds are forever

Huh - somehow my picture got stuck with a quote that wasn't mine, that's weird...

#2057 1 year ago
Quoted from iceman44:

The leaked photos seem very suspicious to me. Stern is always tight as a drum on leaks, and how much time do they spend from licensing to final development, sometimes years and it never leaks.
And somehow they slip up this time by delivering this pin to the show and had it set up without any controls over it? What did they think was going to happen?
Could they be gauging initial interest to see what they might be able to get away with pricing wise?

If they're collecting a bit of data, I think it goes, "playfield layout rocks, please adjust translites and add 007 logo."

#2059 1 year ago
Quoted from Ballderdash:

I bet it blows your mind to consider the entire span of Romance languages use masculine and feminine articles/qualifiers. Including defaulting to the masculine any time a group includes more than one man or is simply referred to in a plural sense. Poof!

Yeah, trying to guess the thinking behind a lot of the gendering in French, what made them choose male (le) or female (la) for things, is always an interesting conversation to have with a native speaker.

#2064 1 year ago
Quoted from Mrsiyufy:

Pinside Feature request - private groups so the 3 or 4 of us that just want to talk about pinball have a place to do so….

Anyone who wants to dissolve the whole woke vs. anti-woke mode, exit Pinside and go watch The Hunt. Never seen a piece of media so successfully lampoon both sides at once, it's a good time.

P.S. And for a bit of gender equality, the heroine in it, played by Betty Gilpin, is my fave satirical badass action hero ever. She'll be yours, too.

#2066 1 year ago
Quoted from haiderdj:

All you "do" in Bacarat is pick who you think is going to win before the cards are dealt -- player or banker. Then the cards are dealt according to the rules. If you're correct, then you win. It's sort of like picking red or black in roulette.

Hmmm.....so the house takes a little cut every hand? How does the casino collect?

#2177 1 year ago
Quoted from thekaiser82:

It’s nice seeing professional photos with proper lighting.

Looks soooooo much better than those damn 90's clamphone pics. If Stern were to be pissed, it wasn't necessarily at the leak, it's that the people taking the sneak pics found one of their old phones in a drawer and decided to use that.

16
#2239 1 year ago

Using the original 60's poster art from a time when a movie poster was lovingly hand-painted and was an art unto itself. Fecking wonderful.

#2261 1 year ago
Quoted from Palmer:

I think you just don't understand the term maybe? Street level was a Gottlieb term (ie no ramps). No one was calling cheap games "street level" before Gottlieb starting making them. They were called cheap after they were made. Home pin and street level are not the same. Home pin is a cheaper game because of the materials used (MDF playfield), and cutting costs like small screen and pop bumper coils firing together. Street level is just a single level game.

And street level Gottliebs had some very cool designs, like Prize Fighter.

#2270 1 year ago

Looks like a lot of shots from that upper-left flipper. A mix of paths, targets and a ramp.

#2310 1 year ago
Quoted from Jokerman:

Did they put the t-moulding on the wrong machines?

#2329 1 year ago

Gomez was already a legend, but this design, damn....the world of classic Bond under glass. Not just as a theme overlay, but like it's a movie set.

12
#2352 1 year ago
Quoted from dogwith1eye:

We’re heading back to Game of Thrones days and the pinheads are lapping it up like Pavlov’s dog.

This is very different than the Game of Thrones photo collage. If someone had these gorgeous iconic Bond posters framed on their wall, that would be cool. Having them all over an actual Bond pinball machine? Multiples of cool.

#2358 1 year ago
Quoted from dogwith1eye:

The whole point of this pin is to cut the “artist” out of this pin. Removing the artist is what Stern as a corporation would love. The designer, the coder, and the “theme” is what’s important.
C’mon people, we’re better than this! This sux! Cutting out the artist really f**kin sux and we should hate it as a community. I’m minus 12 right now and people are piling on but we really do deserve better. Sorry to think that!

It's not necessarily the sentiment, it's the hyperbole.

#2360 1 year ago
Quoted from dogwith1eye:

Who is the “artist” behind this pin? Stand up slim shady coz u on deck!

Quoted from Pin_Fandango:

Game is looking great, the layout is good and the pf seems a good fit.
No complaints here yet, just need to see who is coding it and hopefully it is another home run from Stern.
It is looking great!

"Complete all Bond assignments to start ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE" sounds like they have the right idea.

#2742 1 year ago
Quoted from hank527:Who is getting 007?

Maybe Gomez? Or they could auction it for charity.

14
#2779 1 year ago

Stern just did a huge code drop, including 1.0 on Godzilla which now has the King of the Monsters final wizard mode, being streamed tomorrow. So their plate was full until Thursday with the new code reveals for Rush and GZ.

#2782 1 year ago
Quoted from RGR:

Rush therefore has 2112?

Yup. Streaming tonight on Deadflip Twitch channel, I think.

#2791 1 year ago

Yeah, especially games that are based on movie properties and have a narrative arc to the wizard mode. A credit roll is perfect while you stand there sweating and trying to rub life back into your forearms.

#2793 1 year ago

Yeah, I beat the final wizard mode in Zen Pinball's Jurassic World, then it just went back to the start with everything unlit again, felt kinda blah, like it was making you play the game over again right away.

11
#2974 1 year ago
Quoted from pch3727:

The art is straight form original Bond posters approved by the broccoli estate, far from Photoshop.

Yup, it's classic hand-painted movie poster art from the glory days of that craft. It's a million miles from the Photoshop collages on some machines. Doing all new Bond art and getting it approved by all concerned parties (including actor estates) would probably not have been possible. If the licensor tells you to use the classic movie posters, you do it with as little alteration as possible.

#3589 1 year ago
Quoted from PoppyCock:

Pro is the way to go? Lol, that thing is horrendous! I would have to yack every time I looked at that thing. Worst Pro Stern ever made as far as looks.

Nah, pro looks cool. Very old-school movie theater look.

#3720 1 year ago

YUM

#3730 1 year ago
Quoted from snaroff:

Man, now I want the Elwin 60th anniversary model...looks classy If the game & movie content ends up being awesome (when compared with the Gomez design), folks are going to be really, really bummed if they only build ~250 for the US! Maybe Stern can pull a JJP and decide afterwards (based on demand) to build more?

Agreed, at least do 1,000 of these, it is Elwin after all.

#4639 1 year ago

I wonder if, like BM 66, the code takes longer because the licensor has to approve all assets and changes over and over? Apparently Toho was very easy to work with, they didn't mind whatever Team Elwin came up with. And Rush had the band members on the team.

#4649 1 year ago
Quoted from Rizmo:

I went to my distributor today to pick up an arcade machine. I started talking to him about this 007 pinball. I asked him how is it selling so far and he told me he has sold more of these than Godzilla when it was released in the same
time frame. I guess this theme is very popular

Yeah, GZ probably sold okay just on theme, but then became a "blockbuster" (Gomez's words) on reputation.

#5236 1 year ago
Quoted from Bublehead:

I heard Shrek came about because of poor FG sales and the need for a more “kid and family friendly” title, thus utilizing the parts and turning around sales. I don’t think this applies when talking reusing Bond layout for multiple Bond versions, but how does one incorporate a jet pack toy in Goldfinger? Would the Bond on a wand need to change to match the actual theme? Then there is the Missile… kind of hard to reuse the layout without reimagining all the toys, so if reuse of this GG layout were to happen, would it be simply an artwork change, making the Goodfinger movie the central art, adding modes specific to the movie, etc… but keep all the toys and most game play the same? Or is he (GG) alluding to a Goldfinger stand alone layout we have not yet seen? So maybe put out the 60th with a different flatwood layout that anbe customized to create differing Bond Mahines, each centered on a specific movie, or Bond, and artwork adjusted as needed. That seems like too many if’s for Stern.

I'm imagining it's "Goldfinger" by having fancy gold trim and specific cabinet art and all that. Otherwise same as the LE.

#5239 1 year ago
Quoted from fosaisu:

Bingo. The You Only Live Twice and Thunderball versions still have the Dr. No missile drop-targets, so it's not like each version is limited to toys from the film on the translite.
That said, it could only improve sales if they swap out the jetpack for a Goldfinger nuts-laser.

It would be worth it just to have the British guy playing Q say the words "nuts laser".

#5241 1 year ago

#5314 1 year ago
Quoted from Psw757:

So is the rocket a mech if there is no mechanically actuated movement to it?

It looks like it does a bit of bumpering when first struck, it seems to rebound the pinball around the back targets more than just a spring toy, but it's hard to entirely tell. Like, a weak bumper so the pinball doesn't just get trapped up there with too much bumper action? Or a timed bumper? Hmmm....

Wonka and woz is more timeless than Sean bond. Besides 1 I got in a trade and the other I got it for 2k under msrp shortly after it was released and came with a lot of mods I bought from mezel mods. I'm about to get a JJP potc which is the last wide body made.

JJP PoTC, the game that never got its wizard mode.
