Quoted from zaphX:

Insert between the flippers

Good catch but that actually says "Her Majesty's Secret Service," not the actual movie title OHMSS. Just Connery, no Lazenby (or any other Bond for that matter).

#873 1 year ago
Quoted from Pin_Fandango:

am I hallucination or does the jetpack mech has a wire to make it travel along the length of the supporting arm...

That looks like a reflection on the metal arm. Another photo (arm extended) does not have that.

#978 1 year ago
Quoted from nate1981s:

The foam around the rocket gets removed before playing right and is their for shipping? That type of foam does not last that long and disintegrates with UV light and age.

Yes, it's a loop with targets around it. See other photos.

Quoted from JustJared:

I've been in on a Bond LE for months. Problem is I just bought a Rush and have no room. In order to take my allotment I'd have to give up my BM 66 to make room. #1st world problems. Anyone need a bond LE? Haha.

I'm hoping to get a Bond LE. I'm on multiple lists but not sure I did it early enough. I haven't bought a NIB game since 2011 so I'm not a "current customer" that gets preference. Let me know if anyone has a spot open!

#1007 1 year ago

Did they seriously delay the launch? I thought that was a joke but someone posted a screen cap of an email in another thread.

#1009 1 year ago
Quoted from Mrsiyufy:

The counter on the stern store added 7 days to the counter looks like next Tuesday the 20th now.

Oh, crap. You are right.

#1021 1 year ago
Quoted from nicoy3k:

Delaying it due to the death of a 96 year old celebrity is laughable

To be fair, the game does have "Her Majesty" right on the playfield.

#1082 1 year ago
Quoted from PersonX99:

Am I the only person who hasn't seen any of the Bond movies in this pin?

Since you are in a James Bond thread, I'm guessing that the answer is yes. Go check them out!

#1099 1 year ago
Quoted from docquest:

The women, gadgets, villians would be easy to adapt to the other movies for sure. But the rocket from You Only Live Twice and jet pack from Thunderball are pretty specific to the Connery movies.

Rocket could be Moonraker and jetpack could be parachute or hang glider for Roger Moore.

#1157 1 year ago

We haven't seen the LE yet or the coming "surprise" Gomez mentioned so speculate away!

#1168 1 year ago

I hope they increase the number of LE games made so that the flippers and unethical dealers cannot pull this BS yet again.

#1474 1 year ago
Quoted from Nhpolarbear:

What happened to all the pics? Did Stern “request” people take down until next Tuesday?
Enquiring minds want to know…….

I'm not sure what to make of this:

#1560 1 year ago
Quoted from flynnibus:

It's interesting to see them centering on these Bond films which aren't really the most well known or iconic.

This game includes all 6 official Sean Connery James Bond movies. Those are not iconic? Goldfinger is not iconic?

Edit: Roger Moore is my favorite Bond but you obviously cannot ignore these 6 movies and Connery's contributions to the franchise.

#1669 1 year ago
Quoted from kool1:

Pictures could be intentional. Too much incompetence here.
Family that controls license says halt the launch. Stern says take the pictures we need the sales to start now. Done.

What sales? The dealers don't even have the pricing yet.

#1703 1 year ago
Quoted from Valorguy:

Stern delayed until Thursday now - keeps moving it seems.[quoted image]

I had to check if that would be the 60th anniversary of the first James Bond premiere, but (Dr.) no, that was 5 October 1962. This is pretty weird.

#1771 1 year ago

I’m going to make a prediction/guess about the backglass art. I think there are already six or seven translite designs ready, one for each movie represented in the game and probably one general James Bond design. Pro comes with Dr. No, Premium comes with You Only Live Twice, LE comes with Goldfinger, but you will be able to buy any of the others once the games go on sale. Possible new revenue stream for Stern or wacky idea?

#1804 1 year ago
Quoted from Xdetroit:

The art on the left side of the cabinet looks like redrawn poster art. The rest of the cabinet sides and translight look like pure cut and pasted movie posters. Doesn’t make sense.

1) It's what the license holder allowed.
2) Some people like it, some don't. Get over it.

#1815 1 year ago
Quoted from Xdetroit:

Yes sir! What was I thinking?? Coming to a pinball forum and talking about the the things I like and don’t like about pinball.

Fair enough but I feel like I’ve seen the same comment 20 times already. Prepare yourself for the LE side art which will almost certainly be poster art from Goldfinger or Thunderball.

#1978 1 year ago
Quoted from insight75:

Any good guesses or info on pricing yet?

Not for another week. My guess: $7,500/9,500/11,500 for Pro/Premium/LE.

#2170 1 year ago
Quoted from SLAMT1LT:

Pro and LE details, but nothing on the Stern website. How very odd indeed.
https://007store.com/en-de/pages/james-bond-x-stern-pinball

That's Pro and Premium.

#2181 1 year ago
Quoted from ectobar:

I know it was already brought up, but it's weird it doesn't say James Bond anywhere

That's why I think they must have an alternate translite ready to go. What operator is going to put a "Dr. No" game on location expecting it to be popular?

#2186 1 year ago
Quoted from screaminr:

God , I hope it's not the franchise making them ditch James Bond , so in the future it will be a female character .

Not going to happen. Barbara Broccoli already said so.

#2192 1 year ago
Quoted from thekaiser82:

Is this the first confirmation of the movies used in the game?
[quoted image]

No, they are on the playfield.

#2211 1 year ago
Quoted from zaphX:

Only thing that isn't launched by now is the price and order banks.

Waiting on the LE and whatever surprise Gomez mentioned.

So.. when is the public going to hear about Bond? Today is the reveal to insider connect folks… do they spill the beans shortly after?

No info posted yet. It's on Thursday. Less than 48 hours to go.

Quoted from 80sMan:

I love it when a game ends like that. When I was a kid and first played pinball, I had no idea there was levels or even things to accomplish in the game, just thought the object of the game was to keep the ball in play, try to get multi-ball and not drain.. I remember back in '83 when people realized that their was some arcade games with an ending like Crystal Castles, and then Dragon's Lair, most thought they were so much more fun to play because the goal was to get to the ending just to see what happens.

"Donkey Kong kill screen coming up!"

Me and grantopia have to buy this one since our name is on the playfield (the henchman Red Grant).

Quoted from pinmister:

Question is-did Stern finally start to get caught up with dealer backorders for other titles?

I'm sure they made progress but definitely not 100% caught up. People are still waiting for Godzilla, etc.

#2861 1 year ago

Rush LE was $11,099. Bond LE most likely $11,599 (or higher since they are basically all sold already). MSRP announced tomorrow.

#2934 1 year ago
Quoted from Utesichiban:

Depends on how greedy Stern gets. Anything over ,a $200-$300 increase and 25-40% bail IMO.

I doubt it, especially for the LE and premium. This is a low volume item. There are 1,000 LE games (about half supposedly stay in the US) and a total of a few thousands units for each title, not millions. There will always be wealthy people that want these toys. I would love to be a dealer these days where customers are begging you to sell them an LE for $12k. I'm going through this LE purchase process right now for Bond and might post my results after I hopefully secure one.

I do think that JJP got greedy with Toy Story, however. The cheapest option was $12k and the more limited CE version was $15k. There is a limit and I think they exceeded it.

#2937 1 year ago
Quoted from jeffspinballpalace:

I remember when Stern breached 500 LE’s. Such a travesty that the games are being devalued by the large production runs of 750 then 1000. How many Bond LE’s will be offered and what price? I’ll say 1,250 LE’s @ $11.5k.

I think someone said that the dealers were told the allocations were the same as last time (but at least two dealers told me they hadn't heard), so probably 1,000 LEs? I would love to see more because I'm a collector/player, not a flipper. I'm guessing the MSRP of the LE will be $11,599.

#2950 1 year ago
Quoted from Utesichiban:

So what is the limit for Stern? I'll agree with you about JJP but Stern is anning on raising prices again apparently as well. They are about about at the max most are willing to pay for pros and premiums already and are pressing their luck with another price increase IMO.

Hard to know until they go on sale and even then is it the price or the title that affects sales more? James Bond is a very popular franchise that's been around for 60 years so I think it will sell well, at least to collectors. The operators here will have to chime in about if they will get them to put on location.

For another title like Venom that is not nearly as well known? I assume it would not sell nearly as well as Bond at the same prices just due to the popularity/familiarity of the title.

#3025 1 year ago

It says 1,000 LEs. But it specifically says Thunderball LE.

They (Stern) just took the photos down. Weird.

#3054 1 year ago

"Oh, yes and this one will floor all your listeners. Mr. Keith Elwin has
designed a fourth model of James Bond and it's what we call the 60th-anniversary
edition. His game covers all of the actors that have played the role and all of the films
so I believe it's 25 films. His game spans the 25 films and his game is very different, I
think it's limited to 500 units and it's a single-level playfield like old school. It's got
reels in the back box. Yes, you heard me right, it's got reels in the back box.
Programmed by Mark Penacho who goes back to Williams Electronics days"

#3056 1 year ago

"The art on his game is all 25 films are represented with their film
posters on the sides of the game, on the playfield every actor that's played Bond,
Connery, Pierce Brosnan, George Lazenby, of course, Daniel Craig, Roger Moore,
they’re all represented on the playfield. Then there's elements he's got villains from
each of the Bonds and he's got game features from each of the Bonds. His gadgets
and his weapons and stuff work differently than mine but he's basically picked a
representative device from each.

Like where I use the films he used the Bonds. He said, "I need a Roger thing, I need
a Daniel thing, I need a Sean thing. I need a George thing.""

#3058 1 year ago

"We have music from a bunch of the different films. I wish I could have
highlighted a game as Goldfinger and I still hope, I wish no promises but if the
product is very successful maybe down the road there's some Goldfinger
implementation of some sort. I think it's one of the strongest films and so--"

#3060 1 year ago

"Lonnie, Mike, John Rotharmel who was the lead mechanical engineer. At the end
there, Tom Kopera jumped in on a bunch of stuff. Of course, Kevin and Greg, Steven
Martin, Justin Frait, all those guys, Jerry Thompson, Ken Hale, and then, Chuck
Ernst, and all of his animators, all those guys. They created environments, they
created animations. The animations that Chuck and his team created were so good
that the licensor said to me, "Which movie did this come from?" [laughs]"

#3067 1 year ago

"pro is Dr. No, the premium is You Only Live Twice, the gameplay is consistent
across them. The playfield, by the way, features elements from each film.
One of the big playfield toys is the Bird One rocket base in You Only Live Twice, in
the volcano. You can hit the rocket. I came up with this floating rocket that you can
whack with the ball and it moves, does explosion effects, et cetera. It lends itself to a
great, big multiball, ninjas repelling down into the volcano, all hell breaking loose, got
to stop Bird One from launching. Auger sirens going off, [onomatopoeia] all the
drama of the scene. Of course, there's a DB5 and the ball launches out of the roof.
The ejector seat ejects the pinball if you will."

"Everybody gets an Aston Martin, a three-dimensional custom molded
for the game, custom designed for the game, not a toy off the shelf. Also, custom
molded for the game, two guys simulating the Sean Connery and another diver
locked in Mortal Combat underneath the playfield on the left side. You only see them
when we turn the lights on. Very similar to what I did with the Creature from the
Black Lagoon and Monster back then."

#3105 1 year ago

LE is $13k plus shipping and cc fees so $14k!!!

#3145 1 year ago

LEs won't be produced until early to mid-November according to a dealer I just talked to. Parts issues.

#3275 1 year ago
Quoted from luvthatapex2:

They only had 100 to sell. THe other 900 are available from distributors. Check with your distributor if you want an LE.

I think it was more like 5 or 10 direct from Stern for insiders.

Same experience for me as the others. I got it in my cart 1 minute early and still couldn't complete the checkout.

#3305 1 year ago
Quoted from fooflighter:

In Cart
Hard Pass at $14500

If I can point out a possible silver lining, and maybe I'm being naive, but maybe fewer flippers at this price since it's starting out so high?

Anyway, can you blame Stern for raising the price of the LE so much? They all sold out instantly (or well ahead of time). I'm not happy about it but it's the state of the hobby today.

#3364 1 year ago
Quoted from MK6PIN:

LE works for me...great looking game......did someone "call" for price on SLE? Scared to hear it, but curious......

No info about the 60th anniversary game yet, per 2 dealers I asked. Probably closer to Bond's actual 60th anniversary around October 5.

#3375 1 year ago
Quoted from sbmania:

Personally, I just can't justify $10k-$14k for a pinball machine. No criticism intended whatsoever to those who make a different decision and can justify it. But for me, I can do a lot of things for that kind of money and as much as I love pinball, for me anything over $10k is just too much.

I get it. The prices are nuts. I haven't bought a new game in over 10 years. I'm a huge Bond fan and had to have this one.

The irony about the "insider" LE games that were snapped up this morning in less than one minute (I missed out) is that Stern is charging state sales tax ($1,000 for some) but if you ordered from an out of state dealer they would not charge that. So you end up paying MORE to get it direct from Stern (than if you can get MSRP from a dealer).

#3550 1 year ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

That's not actually ironic, but it is noted.

It is ironic because it's the opposite of what you'd expect. You can actually get the game cheaper from an out of state dealer than direct from Stern (assuming you can get it for MSRP). And people (including me) paid $40/year for this benefit of a small chance of buying direct from Stern!

#3560 1 year ago
Quoted from SantaEatsCheese:

I don't know about your target age. It has been my experience in the 40+ machines that have rotated through my basement in the past 4 years that your average buyer/trader/seller is a family man in their 40s, white, and slightly overweight.

Are you calling me fat?

Also, if I had kids I wouldn't be able to afford pinball machines.

#3722 1 year ago

That's really interesting. I wonder what that is going to cost. I can't see the plaque but George said he "thinks" only 500 units...

#3735 1 year ago
Quoted from John_I:

I was told its a LOT more.

That's too bad because I'd prefer a game that incorporated all the Bonds. This whole thing is crazy with making two completely different designs for the same theme.

#3752 1 year ago
Quoted from Mrsiyufy:

Stainless Steel rocket confirmed on the premium and LE per the stern game flyer. It doesn’t say on the Pro flyer.

I was looking at that. It says "Stainless steel 'Bird One' Gantry with diverter and 3 ball lock." I'm guessing the silver part of the missile is a plastic shell and probably something more solid on the bottom where the ball actually hits it.

#3762 1 year ago
Quoted from starfighter:

Hmmm...
limited to 500
10 drop targets
4 spinners

Don't forget the bowler hat

#3806 1 year ago
Quoted from Jcantelli:

Supposed to be like Creature from the Black Lagoon I thought, but I don't think there is any movement, maybe just lighting - movement would be great.

There is some movement in the "premium game features" video but it might just be mounted on a spring and jiggle a little.

#3813 1 year ago
Quoted from cookpins:

Why limit the SLE, a game designed by your hottest designer, to a 500 limited run? Something doesn’t make sense. Unless it’s 25k+.

They *are* having problems getting parts. This approach could be to maximize profit by delivering the fewest machines. It's terrible for multiple reasons...

#3946 1 year ago
Quoted from paul_8788:

I am less hyped than I was. Been looking at the playfields in more detail and thinking the Pro is the way to go on this one, which is surprising for me because I am usually Premium/LE all the way.
The Premium doesn't really give you anything else to shoot for that I have noticed. Bond on a wand will probably be fun the first few times, and the underwater battle is a nice decorative option, but makes zero gameplay difference. Physical ball lock is a nice to have for sure, but a $2700 USD ($3700CDN) jump on price seems crazy.

I ordered an LE but I totally understand (and somewhat agree) with what you and others are saying. I'm a huge Bond fan and this is a dream theme for me so I decided to get the top of the line version. I like the playfield and toys on the Premium/LE but would have preferred a different cabinet/armor like black & gold for Goldfinger. If they make a Goldfinger LE (Gomez suggested they might), I'm going to have to get that one and sell my Thunderball LE.

Does anyone know when Stern is going to ship out the machines that they sold yesterday? I was fortunate to get one and the email confirmation says "we're getting your order ready to be shipped. We will notify you when it has been sent." Does "getting your order ready to be shipped" mean they're moving boxes onto trucks or that they're putting parts onto an assembly line?

A dealer told me Stern wasn't making the LEs until November but maybe you'll get yours earlier since it's only a small number direct from Stern.

I think that $17.5k already pending/sold must be a joke by someone on here, especially when the $16k one is still listed. I'm pretty sure that there are dealers selling above MSRP (but not that high) that still have these available.

Quoted from usandthem:

Are these pin prices, which do not seem to be slowing demand in any serious way, a “canary in a coal mine” so to speak that the economy isn’t really slowing down? Or is Richie Rich pinhead so insulated from the economy that demand for new pins is just not a good gauge at all?

Have sales of other luxury items slowed down? I know that VW is spinning off a Porsche IPO soon (at a very high valuation) so business cannot be all that bad.

I don't think a low volume item like pinball machines are good gauge of the overall economy. Yes, some people backed out of the LE (and other levels) for Bond because of the price hikes, but the LEs surely sold out slightly later in the day (except for the jackass dealers asking $16k+) and overall I think the sales of this release will be good.

Also, Stern can at any time release new versions of the Bond theme, similar to what JJP did with WOZ. That could affect future value of certain models downward.

This is particularly possible for Bond. The LE they announced is "Thunderball LE" and Gomez suggested that they could do a Goldfinger version in the future. Is it really just marketing? Let me ask the question-'Who are they focusing their marketing efforts on?'
Launching a pinball machine at Christies high end auction house has to be one of the lowest points of pinball collecting history/hobby. You guys want the pinball market to turn into a bunch of ultra's that display their art pieces(pinball machines) in their home collections? -Oh Vey

Christie's and BFI are having a major James Bond 60th anniversary events so it makes perfect sense for Stern to be there showing their James Bond pinball machines. As several people on Pinside have noted, a lot of the general public doesn't even know that new pinball machines are still made so Stern is obviously going to take advantage of any publicity they can get. It doesn't mean that they are only catering to the top 1%. They are still making Pros, aren't they? And those first Bond Pros are being allocated for operators to put them on location.

Turn it into a Roger Moore game with this playfield? I think not[quoted image]

Same layout/mechs but different artwork and video clips, obviously. Bond on a wand could be hang gliding, etc., instead of jetpack.

Actually, Moore had 7 movies to Connery's 6 so this would be tricky to reuse the same playfield. It was just a thought.

Quoted from 1967Firebird:

Do you all think that the playfield could be used for multiple games 007 now and another game later just change art and inserts and the video if it is a great layout same shots different themes?

That occurred to me but Connery did 6 movies, Moore did 7, Brosnan did 4 and Craig did 5. The inserts for this game (women, gadgets, villains, henchman, movie titles) are all based on there being 6 movies. Gomez did float the idea of another art package for this same game (Goldfinger LE most likely).

#5252 1 year ago
Quoted from kklank:

I guess that makes 7 Connery/Bond movies.

The last one (Never Say Never Again) was a non-EON production and not considered an "official" James Bond movie. I'm sure the licensing would be completely separate (and hence not in this game), but yes, Connery did technically star in 7 movies as James Bond.

I was on their list but I have secured one already. I don't know their price.

#5883 1 year ago

A Stern dealer is now listing Bond LEs in the marketplace for $14k. I also posted above that another dealer contacted me yesterday saying they had at least one available (info on previous page). The big price hike has definitely had an impact on demand (it would definitely help the dealer in the marketplace if they just listed them at MSRP but they had to get greedy). It's going to be interesting to see what happens when titles that are less popular than James Bond come out next year.

After watching the stream, I'm up on the fence.

This game will probably be in production until 2024 so unless you are thinking about an LE, you have plenty of time to decide. The software has a ways to go, obviously.

#6171 1 year ago

Two points:

1) If you are not interested in 50-year-old themes, why are you looking at a thread about a game that covers movies from 1962 to 1971? Most everyone here is interested in playing/owning this title and want to discuss things relevant to it. Go complain about random crap in another thread or start a thread about whatever you want to complain about. If you want to suggest random themes unrelated to James Bond, try the "Next Stern Pin" thread.

2) That Crazy Levi character may not be so crazy after all.

#6269 1 year ago
Quoted from SLAMT1LT:

I will never understand why people spend this kind of money on a game with crappy early code. The game you actually want may be years away, and yet you'll buy this machine, look at it, occasionally play it, but will always feel unsatisfied that it's not finished.
So ultimately, you're paying 12 grand for something which is ok now but promises to be awesome later. Bizarre.

We would all prefer that games shipped with their final (or very close to final) code in them already. That's not what is happening right now (at least for Stern). If you want an LE, you have to buy it at announcement (or likely pay more on the secondary market later). If you want a Premium or Pro, you can wait and see. If you love the theme and are going to get it no matter what, why wait?

As far as always feeling unsatisfied, there are obviously software updates that are coming so you can play and enjoy the game now, then play it more later when new features are added. It doesn't necessarily mean that the game is not enjoyable now. I think Bond, at code version 0.54(?), is probably an extreme example because of the compressed game development cycle due to Ritchie leaving.

#6272 1 year ago
Quoted from Rager170:

Man, love the idea of this. But honestly, hate the artwork for the cabinets.
I am a lover of the older movies, but having the artwork be specific for a movie title, while the game itself covers all bonds... Just seems very strange to me.

This game covers 6 movies, all with Sean Connery.

#6283 1 year ago

Does anyone know how the music licensing for a pinball machine works? Gomez said the music license holder wanted more money for the Goldfinger song than the entire Bond license costs (so they did not get that song). If I buy the song for personal use I can get the MP3 on Amazon for only 89 cents (and that includes Amazon's cut) so why should it be more to put it on a pinball machine (per game)?

Alternatively, why can't Stern just make a feature on new games where we can load our own songs and can swap out the default music?

#6292 1 year ago

FYI, Amazon Prime customers: The James Bond movies now say "Leaving Prime on November 4." Watch/stream them while you can!

#6333 1 year ago

I downloaded "The Best Of Bond... James Bond" (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09GJX44QR/) recently. It has all the main theme songs (but not the extra songs that are in the movies).

My Top James Bond Theme Songs
--------------------------------------
1. The original theme song (Dr. No) - John Barry Orchestra
2. Live and Let Die - Paul McCartney
3. Goldfinger - Shirley Bassey
4. You Know My Name (Casino Royale) - Chris Cornell
5. Nobody Does it Better (The Spy Who Loved Me) - Carly Simon

Also worth mentioning (yes, I know that 2 of the Oscar winners are not even listed here):
OHMSS main theme - John Barry Orchestra
We Have All the Time in the World (OHMSS) - Louis Armstrong
For Your Eyes Only - Sheena Easton
A View to a Kill - Duran Duran
Writing's on the Wall (Spectre) - Sam Smith
All Time High (Octopussy) - Rita Coolidge

Really? Ok...where are your "stats" coming from? I have no problem being wrong if you have actual data! No doubt that public places to play pinball have improved over the past decade, however it still seems like the home market is responsible for a majority of new pinball sales.

I also think the home market is larger. Somebody can probably look up individual recent games on Pinball Map (https://pinballmap.com/map) and compare to ownership stats on Pinside for those games.

Better yet, look at the totals. "Pinball Map is currently listing a total of 8,244 locations and 32,972 machines."
There are 93,569 Pinsiders. Even if each person only owned one game, that's three times as many games as are on location. (I don't see a total for Pinsider-owned collections but let me know if you can find it or calculate it.)

These don't include every location or every owner, but that's some pretty good data to start.

This Bond release is no big deal. The games will be coming out soon, and they just announced last month. In this industry I’d say Stern is the model of efficiency. Of course, that’s why they’re leading the pack.

They announced early in the year that the second cornerstone of 2022 would be revealed in August. It was not. It was teased on 9/6 and revealed on 9/22, about 2 months ago. The delays are not a huge deal to me but a correction/clarification was needed here. The 60th anniversary game has still not been revealed.
