Haha for sure, I studied French for 6 years in school. Even as a child, appointing sexual identity to inanimate objects seemed odd, unnecessary, and potentially problematic. Turns out, it is.
Can you imagine if the language legally had to be reversed tomorrow? Any mixed group referred to as a group of women? Men would be outraged that it’s sexism, and they’d be right.
When you systemically signal to half your population that they matter less, it’s a problem that needs addressing.
“Boldly go where no man has gone before” to “boldly go where no one has gone before”. Inclusive language is a good thing. We’ve been needlessly discouraging our girls and women with careless language for long enough. We’re better than that.
