Quoted from kool1:

Non-pinball people have no clue. Younger people have often never seen a machine.

Yep... I was watching RichHomieQuinn when he was touring the room for the FNCS finals. These kids were playing for around $1M.

Someone had put two new Sterns in the actual gaming area, GOTG and Mandalorian. His comment, "those are pinball machines or whatever they call it"

So anyhow, remember when you say that Stern/JJP/whoever should try to attract more kids... people like Rich Homie Quinn are one of the people they are trying to attract! FWIW - he seems like a good kid - and he has mad Fortnite skills.

Quoted from PersonX99:

The best part of Stern reveals are all the comments from the Drama Queens. I am imagining a bunch of middle-aged men clutching pearls in outrage because it doesn't meet their exact expectations. LOL

Quoted from Xdetroit:

The art on the left side of the cabinet looks like redrawn poster art. The rest of the cabinet sides and translight look like pure cut and pasted movie posters. Doesn’t make sense.

1) It's what the license holder allowed.
2) Some people like it, some don't. Get over it.

Octopussy would have been a much better Bond choice.

#1806 1 year ago

The poster art doesn’t look redrawn to me looks like copies of the original posters, which makes the most sense to avoid needing to get permissions from Connerys estate for newly created art

Yeah I just don’t get the lack of understanding if working with a licence. We saw this on game of thrones as well.
GoT could have been slick as snot if Stern had full control over which actors to have on the back glass but apparently that was dictated to them.
In the case of Bond, if Stern was encouraged to go for a retro look, this is how they get the licence.

#1808 1 year ago
Quoted from Grantman:

1) It's what the license holder allowed.

I understand licensing. I’m sure Stern tried to get them to do something different. Some people are successful. Others make excuses on why they were not

Quoted from Grantman:

Yes sir! What was I thinking?? Coming to a pinball forum and talking about the the things I like and don’t like about pinball.

Not sure who needs to hear this, but "Kids" arent buying pinball machines and its the hated middle aged man causing the harm!!

Goldeneye 007 was announced for the Nintendo Switch yesterday so I am beginning to believe it was not the licensor’s call to delay the Stern Bond pin.

#1811 1 year ago
Quoted from J85M:

Stern have said even Beatles sold well so I guess it makes sense to Stern.

Did it though? I suppose Stern sold them to dealers, but I thought many dealers were sitting on Beatles Gold machines for a long while after release.

Quoted from Smack:

It didn't sell well and I know platinums and diamonds are still sitting in warehouses. They only finally completed the run of 1964 games late last year. Oct-Nov time frame. They finished up the last of the golds.

Quoted from bigehrl:

There’s only 2 categories of people complaining about the art. Those who weren’t yet in the hobby to witness the AC/DC reveal, and the game’s immediate dismissal over the Angus Face. And those who were, but are doomed to never learn from the mistakes of the past.

No - the game legit sucked at that point

Wasn’t till lyman reworked the software and premiums were widespread that people could forget the dumpster fire that was the initial launch and pro look

Acdc was another game saved by lyman code evolution. It was just a lot faster to mature than other horses in that stable.

The story is still the same…, a great game can overcome bad art. Take your pick of recent examples…. Tron, got, acdc, etc

Doesn’t make the art any better

Quoted from J85M:

So does this mean we will get a Moore era pin
Down the road? I’d be interested

If the rumors about Keith doing a different version are true then maybe his version would be Roger Moore based? Keith is a bit younger than George, so maybe Keith's Bond is Roger Moore and would be his preferred Bond to base his game on.

#1815 1 year ago
Quoted from Xdetroit:

Yes sir! What was I thinking?? Coming to a pinball forum and talking about the the things I like and don’t like about pinball.

Fair enough but I feel like I’ve seen the same comment 20 times already. Prepare yourself for the LE side art which will almost certainly be poster art from Goldfinger or Thunderball.

If it’s 60th anniversary single level old school game it very well could feature art from all Bond movies. 60th anniversary celebrates the whole thing and not just Sean Connery as Bond.

Hard to believe they would do this but who knows.

This is a way more significant announcement then a pinball machine too. Goldeneye is a massively popular game.

I'd rather see Elwin do a Brosnan/Goldeneye pin if we're going to mix it up. Then like TMNT, have a bunch of nods to the videogame that my generation loved.

The can reuse Seawitch layout, again.

It would possibly limit buyers who have Beatles or Seawitch but they likely have parts.

I was just implying if it’s really called a 60th anniversary edition it’s hard to imagine it only have one Bond character. Anniversary celebrates the entire franchise.

60th anniversary is being celebrated 9/30-10/2 in UK.

I'm out on a "street level" $20k game. I have one of those already called TNA and it was $6k.

I'm more than likely in on a GomBond LE, but I will admit it's going to be a mild kick in the balls if the ElBond art package rocks vs the poop fart art on the GomBond. (I kid - the GomBond art is tolerable, just not what I've come to expect from Stern lately).

I would say, these are PC gaming fortnite "kids" and I wouldn't really say they are in the market to buy pinball games. They also likely never touched the air hockey table either. They probably just sat on the computers and played fortnite for 12+ hours a day.

Most of the younger generation goes to arcades to play ticket redemption/gambling games anyway. But they're not thinking to themselves "I need to buy this coin pusher for home use" because like having a home slot machine, it's losing it's value when you're not winning something tangible from it.

I was at an arcade that had some pinball mixed with ticket redemption. A younger college kid came up to Attack from Mars and played a game. At the end they were looking around the coin door and I asked them if something was wrong. Their response was "Does this game give tickets?" and after I said no, they said "then what's the point?".

JJP trolling stern on the art already
[quoted image]

The art on Bond could've been better, definitely. Looking at TS4, I still prefer it to the oversaturated Skittles playfields that seem to be en vogue at the moment. At least it's true to the aesthetic of the source material.

I wouldn't have minded if they went super easy street and just re-skinned the beatles/seawitch to a bond theme but have a pro/premium price point.

I wonder if this could have anything to do with the delay, especially the extra two day delay. As some have speculated, the Her Majesty's Secret Service insert may be a wizard mode or at least have something to do with Lazenby's Bond.

They should be in the market to *play* pinball. They are this generations version of Roger Sharpe and company.

#1833 1 year ago

I'd agree they should be in the market. But if Mando and GotG won't get the kids interested in those "pinball things", then I don't know what else. But arcades are definitely moving and more successful with ticket redemption and gambling games than they are video games. "The Lost Arcade" is actually an interesting documentary that talks about the shift in arcade popularity. I'd still say video games and pinball are a bit more in the barcade type crowds now.

I feel kids are more into latest trends. You'd probably have been better doing a vault of Stranger Things with the recent season 4, throw in Kate Bush and saving Max instead of Total Isolation 2. But even then Stranger Things will be done after Halloween and something new will come up. I feel pinball gets a license and then delivers it way too late (i.e. Toy Story 4) to where it's not relevant as much anymore. So they have to cater towards the nostalgia crowd with money for home market. Thus Bond, TMNT, Rush.

That's at least my assumption. Not saying that is the facts or anything, but how I gather it.

How about Toy Story 4????

#1835 1 year ago

Boy some of you really are nuts. The delay is likely for exactly why they said it is. While stern likely doesn't want a lot of info leaked way early they could give 2 F's about the pictures that got out. The LE's are all already sold to distributers and those distributers already have waiting lists for anyone that back outs. The distributers have also already ordered as many Pro's and Premiums as they could get. The game is done, we will see it whenever stern decides to post the info and people will start getting them in Oct.

Quoted from Loganpinball:

I just dont understand how Bond is flying the plane and holding the gun pose at the same time? That just looks silly to me.
I wish they went a different direction with the cabinet. When I think of Bond I think of the suits, walther ppk, gadgets and the cars. Even a simple 007 logo, Bond in that gun pose and the villians on the cabinet simuliar to the Sopranos would have looked better then this. I am a buyer anyway. I had a Zeppelin pro and that was hard to look at.[quoted image][quoted image]

It's kinda strange. I watch RichHomieQuinn when he plays with TG... and both of those guys would likely dominate at pinball if they played. The have absolutely lightning reflexes, fast decision making, and understand very complex rules/strategies. I'd also bet, if they gave it a sincere effort... they'd love it.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter, but the disconnect is kinda interesting.

Connery is the best Bond, but Roger Moore's movies are more fun and better suited to a pinball experience. Hard as hell though, squeezing all the bonds, all the villains and all the music into a single pinball experience.

This may be the start of a Bond series... which would make perfect sense.

My meaningless thoughts on what we kind of know so far:

1. Art. Kind of shocked by it at first but it's growing on me. They seem to be going hard into the camp side of Bond which personally I really like. Early Bond really was more tongue in cheek and not meant to be taken seriously. I'd rather the artwork be over the top and cheesy than understated and boring and I certainly would not call the cabinet art understated. The playfield art does look like a Data East game, but honestly it's not that bad. I like that it conveys tons of information while at the same time showing tons of bond characters. Yeah, it's not Zombie Yeti, but I think it kind of works here.

2. Playfield and shots are exactly what I love about Gomez. He's crazy! It again kind of reminds me of a Data East/Sega game, but really the layout weren't the problems with those pins -- it was the shot geometry and code. Give me Data East Star wars with awesome code, please. Really, I just love that the playfield seems unique. Even the toys fit in great with the camp theme that they seem to be going with. Bond on a stick -- hilarious.

Overall -- I'm super excited about this game and depending on theme integration it might tempt me to sell BM66 sometime to try it out.
