Finally starting my TOTAN restoration after having it a few years. This thing is a total wreck and I’d be better off buying a nice one but I like restorations.

Here is my original NOS PF I paid dearly for, then sent it to Ron Kruzman for touch up and clear, he does amazing work and worth the wait. No reproduction PF here, Thank you Ron!

Looks like you found the game while scuba diving. Are you going to attempt to repair this cabinet or just replace?

#4 5 years ago
Quoted from swillie:

Replacement is best. One could restore this cab but the time involved would be nuts and the structural integrity would not be good. The plys have separated and a lot of the wood is swollen.

Looks like you have your hands full. Will be following.

#6 5 years ago

Dang son! From rustoration to restoration! Looks like it’s all there and should be fun. Playfield looks fantastic!

#7 5 years ago

was this a flood game? With all that rust I’d be concerned about wiring harness connectors. Not to mention breaking bolts and screws removing mechs. Kudos to you for taking this on. Nice to see it getting saved

#8 5 years ago

Ughhh... That is one blown out TOTAN.

Going to enjoy watching you revive this beauty!

No, it was sitting in a metal shipping container in Georgia I believe. The heat and humidity over the years created a damp environment and the condensation collected at all the low spots and edges causing all the corrosion.

Any updates to this? I’d love to see this game rise from it’s rusty ashes.

Where did you find this pin? It is rough!

Came out of a container in the south, it sat in there for years and collected condensation. I bought it from pinsider “THE_DIRECTOR” a few years ago.

Unfortunately no more progress has been made. I just took a new job and been out of state for training. Also setting up another pinball location. Needless to say, TOTAN has been at idle, but I do think about it often! Bahaha.

I’ll start cracking on it again when I get back from training.

Wish I could see the pics lol, but Totan is a favorite

I’m out of state till the end of the month, then only home for a few days. I will post some pics when I get some time to work on it

#28 4 years ago

Love that your taking this on. Its going to be amazing when complete. You and I have similar pacing to our work- it gets done whenever life slows down long enough to remember pinball! I figure that just earns a bit more gratification when all is done!

We're all waiting to see this rise from the ashes, or .. from damp-corrosion

Wow, I thought the rbion project I have been debating selling had moisture. It is cherry compared to what you started with. Nice work.

Harness is scrubbed clean, freshwater rinsed 3 times, all connections blown out with compressed air and now hanging clean.

Been trying to get some paint and decals done on a few other projects before it gets cold, then I can get back to the TOTAN. But here are some pics for eye candy of the other projects.

Wow - are all your machines born underwater?

You take on some BIG projects that most people would not do.

Seems like it, it’s so dang hard to find deals anymore though. The only “deals” for the most part are pins that need total restoration.

Not for totan. I had somebody doing some detail work for me and he seriously messed up a PF in a pin that’s not mine. With that said, this mess up has taken all my extra free time away to get it right. I’ve had to pain this 3 times to get it right but now I’m happy with it. 1 pic of where he was buffing the PF and caught a switch in the buffer, it scratched the PF pretty bad and he also burnt the PF with the buffer.

Did about 2 hours of soldering last night on the playfield, no pics. Just an update, slowly working on it when I can.

#48 4 years ago

Finished up all but one coil and the outlane roll over switches and lamps on the underside. After I test all components I will tidy up the harness. I spen about 7 hours on the underside tracing, trimming and soldiering wires. Every single lamp socket is new, the old harness was cut from the old PF lamps and sockets, only a handful of old sockets stayed attached for the transfer and they got replaced too.

I populated some more of the topside today too. This is where the progress stops as I have to go back on the road for a few weeks.
