Can you show what way the diode is on the coil?

Does your new transistor still test properly? How about the pre-driver?

Quoted from blackoutmatt:

that where you just touch it with a wire to the transistor and then to metal to bypass it?

That's a way to test if everything 'down the line' from the transistor is working. If it still didn't fire then you'd know there was a connector/wiring issue.

In this case you want to use the diode test on your multimeter. Transistors have diodes internally, so you can usually tell if one has a problem by reading between the legs. Check out this guide: http://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=general#Testing_a_Transistor.2C_Silicon_Controlled_Rectifier_.28SCR.29_or_Field_Effect_Transistor_.28FET.29 for how to test transistors. The main transistor in this case is Q21 per the manual (a TIP102), and the pre-driver is Q20 (a 2n4401) located right above it on the board.
