The MPU is locking up and no longer executing when this happens.

Considerations...
...any AMI chips, especially the 5101
...corrosion

When the symptom manifests feel each chip on the MPU to see if one is noticeably hotter. The 6632s run hot normally but if one fails it might be a bit hotter than the others.

That’s all I’ve got for you now. This will be a tough one.

Your Gen1 MPU will work in BH once you've updated it to the single ROM configuration. It should have U2/U3 soldered in.

Post a pic of the corroded area. I'll give you an assessment.
