Saw the movie today... thought it was excellent, one of the best I've seen in a long time. I'm a fan of epic cinematography, and this movie didn't disappoint in immersing the audience into that world for a while, which is what a movie is supposed to do. I didn't feel there was a single lagging part of the film.
My first thought afterwards is that the plot felt more complete than any of the recent Star Wars flicks that forces some suspension of disbelief in some plot points to get through it. 2049 left the viewer with questions, but that's typically the point of movies of this genre, and why Elan Musk keeps warning about the future of AI. Regardless, it was actually a more straight forward plot than the original, which will help some people get through it easier.
It will likely be nominated for academy awards for special effects and cinematography, if not others. Ryan Gosling did well, as did most of the other actors. It's a very highly rated movie from both critics and viewers... while it's not raking it in at the box office (neither did the original), it's a must see at some point whether you like theater or TV... but this flick was made for the big screen.
