Yep i see they are up to 94.7 mill on box office mojo. 45 domestic and 49 international.
Maybe international can save it?

They will do okay once the retail sales, streaming, etc. revenues come in. Might be another 30 years before they want to foot the bill for another one though.

- special DVD editions (there'll be a lot of them)
- TV pay for view movie channels
- Netflix release (or wherever it ends up)

I'm sure they'll do ok out of it.

This is the same argument I see parroted around the internet... "go back and watch Jupiter Rising, ya bunch of ADHD-brains!"
Is 2049 only capable of creating discussions about who does/doesn't get it? More constructive to ponder: "What, exactly, are we getting from this story for our time investment?"
The author states Leto's character is compelling because with a little imagination he "could be" a Silicon Valley magnate-turned-Dr. Evil. Does thinking about this possibility make the character suddenly become interesting to you? Not to me. Leto's role was the standard Hollywood-weirdo-bad guy quoting pseudo-prophetic Bible quotes. Intellectually, I found no challenge other than the sort of superficial comic book villain spectacle the article condemns. Ironic, but proof that anything is going to seem profound after a long atmospheric buildup invoking familiar themes we already like.
This review delves a good bit deeper into the analysis of the film and what did/didn't work and why. I had the same jumping-off point regarding Joi. Once she was gone, my interest in the conclusion plummeted...

There are still lots of millions to go, it cost $180M to make, one estimated rule of thumb is that the gross needs to at least double the cost to break even:

Saw it last night - great movie! The original is one of my favorites. While I like the original better (more action, better characters IMO), I feel this was a worthy sequel. Like others have said, if you like blade runner you should like 2049. If your interested, DVD won't do the film Justice. Go see it on the big screen. Haven't checked it out yet, but there's a series on Sci-Fi called 'Electric Dreams'. It's based on a bunch of Phillip K. Dick short stories - could be good....

Loved that review thank you. Was fun to read. I still had a good time watching 2049.
Sp loved the part where he compares all AIs indentity crisis to Pinochio. So simply put but true. From Asimov's I Robot, to Spielberg's AI to Blade Runner, after all it is really all Pinochio. AI wanting to be human.
Anyone else use Moviepass? $10 a month and can watch a movie a day. I'll go see this just because I can walk out if I want without wasting money.

I use it! I didn't for Blade Runner, because I wanted to see it on the super-duper jumbo IMAX here, but it's already paid for itself with a couple others movies ("mother!", which I loved but would never recommend, and "Battle of the Sexes", which was nicely shot and well-acted but kinda bland). Still feels weird to buy my ticket with the card, it almost feels like stealing lmao
Saw it last night. Very pleased with Story. Cinematography was there, but I feel
Editing and sound track let it down.
Basically felt a bit too intensely dark, for the length, and could have seen, what we saw in an hour.
Complete lack of empathy for characters to me, and shortage of what the rest of the world was doing besides
walking, working, we presume, and watching giant advertising.
It felt like we, the audience were left out of the future in this movie, except for the hologram side.
Glad i saw it, but many walked out of the theater, as without knowledge of the first, it was very hard to follow and find value.
3 Stars as Late night at home alone flick, or if one is a fan.
1-1/2 Stars or less As a general Audience movie.
No stars, if one went thinking they would see a fun flick.
I guess the box office revenue is reflecting mixed reviews and trepidation.
Ill bet a better version was left on the editing room floor......
Just went and saw 2049.
Thought it was great.
Having seen the original Final Cut only two weeks ago, it was fresh in my mind.
I liked how 2049 carried on the theme almost spot on. Similar pacing (slighter faster than the original) Same cityscapes and Japanese imagery in the cities. Cool nod to Atari in one scene. 2049s music carried on the same theme as Vangelis did in the original.
Not once did I look at my watch ...
And nobody walked out.
I can understand that not everyone is going to like it. In the same way I don't like a lot of popular movies. Everyone has their personal tastes. Embrace them!

Finally saw the movie yesterday, liked it a lot but do agree it was overly long.
**possible spoiler alert - dont read further if you haven't seen the movie**
I understand why K did what he did, but who made him and for what purpose. How did he get the memories? Was it Wallace to find the girl but if that was the case how did he know to use the girls memories? Was it the girl to find Deckard, but if so how did she get the memories implanted? Was it the replicas, but if so how did they know what to do?
Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Implanting memories in replicants is her primary job. Well creating them anyway but if that's your expertise then I would imagine you know how to implant them.

I think she just made one of her memories and shared/sold it, which is apparently against the law/code whatever for the memory creators/sales companies. The other replicant in K's apartment also recognised the horse, suggesting she had the same memory implanted in her "at birth".

Yeah, that’s what I picked up. There are X number of memories, shared between all the replicants. So a number of them will have the same childhood memories.

Yesterday's box office totals hit $194 million, so BR2049 made a profit !!!!!!!
Now, that clears the way for BRRR (Blade Runner Replicant Revolution) to be made.
Spoiler Alert: It becomes illegal for replicants to have an abortion, yet ironically at the same time, America becomes crowded with unwanted Human/Replicant halfbreeds who are less human than human.

I enjoyed Valerian and had high hopes, but felt like it fell short. The lead actors just didn't do it. I couldn't put my thumb on it until I realized the parts I like most, were from other much better actors. As a Fifth Element fan (so much so its my custom game theme) it was a bummer. Visually great, still enjoyed it, but didn't reach the bar of the Fifth Element or the Professional. However believe its ultimately because the right actors would have put that already large budget movie out of possibility. It was a risk I can agree with, but he had the same problem with 5th element and was able to get better actors with residuals, which worked out really well.
Back to Bladerunner 2049, I was VERY happy with the sequel. I felt its stands up entirely on its own but doesn't ignore the original. I'm a fan of long slow movies, so didn't mind the pace. the world building, production, story, and acting were all as good as the original and went back to the theater to see it large screen one more time.
