Picked up a really nice Blackwater 100 recently. The manual is black and white and marked "Preliminary". Inside, the manual is extensively edited by hand in numerous places. Very neat handwriting which has been reproduced in the manual, with whole sections written in by hand. Anyone seen anything like this before, and does anyone have any info on proto or sample versions of this game? Just curious what this might be as I have never seen a manual like it before. The manual is almost certainly a factory release. Thanks!

Did you get any answeres on your manual, I have a manual and user guide with preliminary typed on the cover also

No one ever responded. My manual says "Preliminary" on the cover, but entire pages of instructions inside the manual are literally handwritten! Its definitely factory, not somebody writing in there. Don't know if my Blackwater is a proto or not. Not sure how to tell or if it even matters.

Sounds like you've got the master copy of the manual for sure, extremely cool. I'd venture the game itself likely a prototype.

Does it have any identifying serial numbers or anything on the game? Any photos to share?

Every BW100 manual I've ever seen said "preliminary" on it. I remember reading something about this years ago but I don't remember what or where.

serial # will tell the tale

Here are a couple of pics
Note the extensive hand written copy in the manual. The only numbers I can find on the game are a 946 on the right side of the head and a label with a 980 on the underside of the playfield.

The small user guide has Preliminary printed on it also. Is there a listing of serial #s from start to the end of production?
