I’m terribly on the fence about what to do with this Blackout. The cabinet has water damage and the entire playfield has white powdery mold. But the game seems complete and is only missing the MPU.

Does the playfield look good enough for a players machine or is this game too far gone?

I’ve seen faaaar worse than that!

Tidy it up as good as you can — throw a playfield protector on to sort out those sunken inserts — and you’ll have a winner.

It's not in too bad of condition. I say restore it.

#4 4 years ago

I recommend refurbishing. There is plenty to work with.

If you do end up parting out, however...im interested in the playfield. I have a sentimental attachment to this pin.

#5 4 years ago

Sell it before you part it. This isn't that bad.
I see what could be a good players machine.

I would definitely restore it. Remove everything from playfield and see how it looks after you clean it up. Sometimes a little scrubbing and Novus can do wonders.
The cabinet needs a bit of work but it is totally doable in my oppinion.
So ... go for it

As long as the cab isn't falling apart, it's probably fixable. Not every game has to look perfect. I've seen way worse brought back to life to flip again.

#8 4 years ago

I'd fix it but I'm crazy that way.

#9 4 years ago

Playfield looks pretty good and gives you a lot to work with. Even if the cab is rough, it can be fixed or replaced.

#10 4 years ago

Yeah, I say salvageable. Now, with the mold/mildew, I would say be careful. Don't jeopardize your health for a pinball machine. Wear adequate respiratory protection when you're cleaning that gunk.

Too bad we're not closer. I have a blackout with all the opposite problems as yours and if the two were combined would make a great game. But I think yours could be restored.

What's it going to be? Restored or parted?

#13 4 years ago

It looks like I will be selling this to someone who wants to restore this.
Here are the pictures of the holes in the cabinet and head

Cabinet is solid, knocking on it, it seems to be free of large voids.
The neck and head are pretty well chewed up. Neck definitely needs to be replaced but you possibly could fill the holes in head and use it.

As for “are you sure it’s empty?”
It’s been sitting in quarantine for a month and nothing has come out, no evidence of activity. I’m pretty certain it’s good.

Yeah, that backglass is better than mine!

#16 4 years ago

Wish this was closer I would be there. Cool game.

Thanks for all the interest and feedback! The game is going to zacaj who I believe has the spirit to make this game into what it needs to be! I truly believe these are good bones and a truly gem is there, it just needs more work then I’m able to put into it with so many projects, plus I FINALLY have my first game on location!
So that’s exciting and there’s lots going on in life at the moment. If anyone is in Upstate New York, feel free to shoot me a message if you ever wanna see the workshop or check out my backlog of projects
