Hey guys

I reset the ribbon cables on my working screen yesterday in hopes to fix one line that was out. Turned the game back on and didn't look at the screen right away but after a few minutes noticed that the screen was black I didn't know what from.

Now I notice I reset the smaller of the 2 ribbon cables on backwards I had the red line on pin 13 not 1

My bad I switched it back and the screen is still black.

Tryd to check voltage coming to the DMD and it was all over the place but then would rest at 4.9 so I should be all good there.

Any ideas what to check and how to fix it.

I tryd a different ribbon cable from another game and it didn't work so it's not the ribbon cable.

I looked at the DMD boards and I don't see anything on them

Bump please help

Make sure the cables are on correctly [IE red line pin 1 on all boards] and double check they and not reversed or off by a pin or a bent pin etc ............also check for power at the dmd and dmd controller board.

I got 5v with the power to the DMD board

The pins are on correctly now. That's how I got into this mess putting one of the ribbon cables on backwards

Can I test the DMD in a Williams game? I don't have another data east.

I have a sega batman forever but not sure if that will work with the larger DMD

yup you can test any dmd in any game. With the power off swap them out and then power on.

And yes I know thats how you got into this mess but I have seen cables placed on backwards before and they do not do any damage they just read funny or garbled.
What are your power readings at the actual dmd? And you never know about the cables. Seen bent broken missing pins or kinked cables or off by a pin or backwards.etc etc and seeing how that was what was last touched its always worth checking again.
I suspect bad power to your dmd or bad dmd controller board. There is static chips that can go by touching them if you were not grounded before touching the board.

Ok got the DMD working! Thanks guys!

Quick question I noticed that the top line on the DMD is out.

Any way of fixing that? Or is it a bad DMD?

Not sure if only the top line would mean a bad connection or something.

The rest of the DMD is nice and bright

You are welcome ...but ...what was it?

Also is your dmd connected by little pins or is it a large ribbon strip connection? VERY common for the little pin type to break where they enter the glass. but do not mess with it unless you are confident in your repair skills as you can easily make it worse because the other pins are not far behind. If its the ribbon type I have seen the strip edge peel away and just a little press and hold was all it took to fix it. AGAIN... better to let sleeping dogs lie here unless you are getting/have a new one.
There are some things to try if you are brave...range from soldering it to adding a conductive paste epoxy. Either way sees a moderate rate of success.
