Potential song list (if I had to guess what they choose, I would bet most of the following tracks would be a lock, if this becomes a reality):

    N.I.B.
    War Pigs
    Paranoid
    Iron Man
    Children of the Grave
    Into the Void
    Supernaut
    Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
    Sabbra Cadabra
    Hole in the Sky
    Symptom of the Universe
    Never Say Die

The opening riffs of Wheels of Confusion would be a good choice for 'game over' tune.

I would love to see the following, but I doubt they'll get selected (unless they decide to go beyond 12 tracks, these would be top choices. (Any of the first four could likely replace Sabbra Cadabra above.)

    Sweet Leaf (unless Stern objects.)
    Tomorrow's Dream
Snowblind (same situation as Sweet Leaf)
    A National Acrobat
Looking for Today (highly doubtful, but it would be so good)
Megalomania (doubtful, but this would make a KILLER multiball track or wizard mode.)
Spiral Architect (another good wizard track.)
All Moving Parts (Gotta have something from Technical Ecstacy)
    Shockwave (please!!!)
    Loner

I highly doubt we will get any tracks from other line ups so I can only dream. It's too bad Sharon makes the call because most of the following are good upbeat Sabbath tracks for pinball:

    Dio Era:
    Neon Knights
    Heaven & Hell
    Die Young
    Turn Up the Night
    Mob Rules
The Sign of the Southern Cross (wizard mode)
    Computer God
    TV Crimes

    Gillan Era: (Born Again)
    Trashed
    Zero the Hero
    Digital Bitch
    Hot Line

    Martin Era:
    Hard Life to Love
    Headless Cross
    Devil & Daughter
    Danger Zone

There are so many others to select. I have no doubt the song list will be good no matter how they do it. Then again, I'm very biased.

    Quoted from Kkoss24:

Those big tours were called Ozfest not sabbath fest

No doubt Ozzy has had a lengthy career but make no mistake, despite all of Sharon's marketing, he is no greater or more important than the other members of that original line up of Sabbath.

    #49 3 years ago
    Quoted from Jjsmooth:

YES! But first 4 albums only.
    ONLY.
    Master of Reality wiz mode
So many multiball mode ideas are so easy, game would design itself

What!? Henry Rollins, is that you?

'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' is the pinnacle!

    #50 3 years ago
    Quoted from Jjsmooth:

Snowblind multiball - White lights and flashers only. And all coils get 25% more power. For 30 seconds.
    Call me, Gary
    Haha

Add the Whirlwind fan as a topper and put some coke infront of it to start Snowblind Multiball.

    Quoted from wrb1977:

Their often overlooked masterpiece...so much material from this album alone that would be perfect for pinball![quoted image]

They wrote that album under a lot of stress, mostly due to conflicts with management. The end result is the aggressive sound of Sabotage. In addition, this was the first tour where Ozzy wasn't singing as well as he had previously. You can hear it on the August 5th recording in Asbury Park in 1975. 'Megalomania' was really hard for him to sing live.

    #69 3 years ago
    Quoted from Chisox:

By “stress” do you mean cocaine?

That would apply a little more to 'Vol. 4'

    #76 3 years ago
    Quoted from wrb1977:

Black Sabbath is one of my absolute favorite bands, I saw the original lineup live in 1999, and their importance as pioneers in the sound of metal is undeniable! So please keep in mind I mean no disrespect with the following...
The band Coven was FIRST and predates Sabbath when it comes to music dealing with the occult, black magic, Satanism, and the Left-Hand Path. Coven’s debut album, Witchcraft Destroys Minds & Reaps Souls was released in June of 1969 and their shows began in late 1967. There are some strange coincidences between Coven and Black Sabbath.
The first track on Coven’s debut “Witchcraft” album was “Black Sabbath”. The bass players name in Coven is Oz Osborne...weird! Earth changed their band name to Black Sabbath two months after Coven’s album was released. Black Sabbath claims they got their name from the Mario Bava film of the same name...makes you wonder though??? In a classic MTV interview from 1986, Martha Quinn interviews Tony Iommi and pulls out the “Witchcraft” album basically calling Iommi out. He claims to have never heard of them even though they played shows together in 1970 and just says “we were first”.
The sign of the horns, which Ronnie James Dio is usually credited with starting, is also historically inaccurate. Jinx Dawson, the singer in Coven, was throwing up the horns as early as 1967! Coven was the real deal as they were actually practicing witchcraft and black magic, this was not “shock” rock or a gimmick. The “Witchcraft” album even ends with a 13 minute “Satanic Mass”, supposedly the first ever recorded. The first appearance of inverted crosses appeared on this album. Their live shows included a roadie hung on a cross that inverted as a finale...imagine seeing that today let alone in the late 60s! The “Witchcraft” album also included a Black Mass poster with Jinx laying nude on an alter. The album was extreme and coupled with the Manson murders of the time was soon kept behind the counters in record stores.
The music is not as heavy as Sabbath but it is damn good and Jinx’s vocal performance is absolutely brilliant. She has so many different tones and textures, and can sing beautifully or really belt it out with some rasp. Not to mention she is gorgeous! “Wicked Woman” is probably the highlight of the album but there are many other fantastic songs including “For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge” (F.U.C.K.)! Coven was way ahead of their time and one journalist wrote early on that Black Sabbath was England’s answer to America’s Coven.
Coven finally started getting the credit they deserve in 2019 with the 50th anniversary of the “Witchcraft” album. Jinx Dawson was still performing as Coven in 2019. She is quite the interesting person. Jinx even signed the certificate of authenticity for each of the 50th anniversary box sets in her own blood!
If you have never heard the “Witchcraft” album it is definitely worth a listen. The lyrics are intense, disturbing, and downright scary at times. In 1969 this album would have been the first “A-bomb” that was dropped on the music industry and started a new genre. Jinx Dawson started it all and describes the “Witchcraft” album as a scholarly work.
Musically Black Sabbath started the heavy metal sound as we know it today but when it came to subject matter the genre was started by Coven. Coven definitely had an edge and a “heaviness” to them, but not to the level that Black Sabbath popularized. Just giving credit where credit is due. Thanks for reading...sorry it was so long and I was not trying to derail the thread...just felt it was relevant and that some of you Sabbath fans that have not heard of Coven may enjoy their music!
    We NEED a Sabbath pin!!! [quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

I like Coven a lot. But you gotta understand once Sabbath was doing their thing, by the time 'Paranoid' came out, no one gave a shit about Coven. It was ultimately the music that set Sabbath apart from anything else going on at the time. Nobody thought to make music with C standard as the regular tuning. All because Tony needed to relieve his missing fingers! Bands were no longer trying to sound like late 60's psychedelia (which I really love) Rock was getting a little harder and more progressive. Post Vietnam aggression.

I agree though, what is breakthrough about Coven is their image, especially considering the time period it came out. It ultimately scared the shit out of people, with the Manson thing going on at the time. The music is great but it was just more of the same sounds of the time, but with better lyrics.

    Added over 3 years ago:

Edit: John Osbourne was known as "Ozzy" since elementary school. He self tattooed his "OZZY" letters in 1964 when he was 16, predating anyone knowing about the bassist of Coven.

    #78 3 years ago
    Quoted from wrb1977:

I agree with you and understand all that. What Black Sabbath was doing musically had not been done before. However, in my opinion Coven was a stepping stone to the Sabbath sound and was not just more of the same sounds of the psychedelic rock era of the late 60s which I also love! Coven was their own thing, even musically, and have their own place in the history of heavy metal that many ignore or are unaware of and just give all the credit to Sabbath.

They have a rightful place, no doubt. I dont think many may know about Coven, either. I just think it would hold more weight if Sabbath had gone down the path of sticking to a narrow way of song writing. People often overlook the fact that Geezer was writing lyrics about way more topics than just devils and witches at black masses. They covered a lot of ground in their music and lyrics and it just resonated with many.

As far as credit goes, you have to remember Blue Cheer also.

I was in a funk these recent days. Like, real bad.

It is insane (and I dont know how many other people can relate to this) how much of the music of this band is relating to my life, especially in recent years. Many of these songs, and spanning across all line ups no less, are just hitting me on another level. Just today, i'm listening to the Mob Rules album and i'm like holy shit these riffs and words are just on point. It was the highest of highs and I wasn't even getting high yet.

    Praise Iommi. Sabbath forever.

    Where is this fucking pin?

    Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

The Vol 4 Ultimate edition is coming out soon - I just listened to the outtakes, and the live show they played on that tour. A couple of songs from Sabbath Bloody Sabbath appear, with different lyrics, and some unreleased riffs/songs. There are different riffs on the outtakes too! Must get

You're talking about the Super Deluxe? That thing is superb. I hope they do more editions like that for other albums.

    #97 3 years ago

I hear tons of jazz in the early Sabbath records. You can still hear it even in Sabotage.

Every interview they have ever done, they've had to be bored out of their minds because it was always the "first metal band" stuff. (Tony and Geezer have often rejected the metal label and claimed it more as hard rock.) No one ever asks them about their roots in jazz. Bill Ward was always a jazz drummer because he wanted to do what Gene Krupa was doing and you could hear it!

But yeah early pre-Sabbath is great. There is so much to hear in their catalog and so much more than just the hits from Paranoid.

    #99 3 years ago

Ozzy could really sing in those days. It's a shame his voice just couldn't keep up by the mid 70s. Never again could they play songs from albums 4, 5 and 6.

    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Dammit I just want a purple and black Master of Reality premium with wavy acid crosses etched into the side armor.
IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?!?!

I'm sure with Stern and the rest of the world coming to realize how awful their manager is, it probably wont happen now. Or atleast for awhile.

    #104 3 years ago
    Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

Funny you say that - I am literally at this moment listening to this bootleg from 75 - he sounds AMAZING! it's from the Sabotage tour - Symptom of the Universe is BAM! Knock you out. And they do a version of Megalomania which is really a step up from the album. Not 5 minutes before I read your comment was I saying to my wife how great Ozzy is singing. And not "singing great.. for Ozzy", but really just hitting the notes great. Coked out of his mind (he mentions it specifically a number of times). He's way over his range as usual, but with a couple real high notes he's a little flat on, this is a phenomenal show. I bet they couldn't even hear themselves up there. -SYMPTOM OF THE UNIVERSE- sounds really good. Trying singing that song some time. Your head will explode.
    Probably Bill's best tour IMO

Is it the New Jersey show? Towards the end you can hear him change the way he's singing. That tour was the last time they did Megalomania, which is a shame because it's such an epic song. They kept Symptom and I think Hole in the Sky for the Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die tours, but Ozzy started to sing with more of a growl in his voice. He just couldn't do them like he used to.

    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Yep I've heard a few '75 boots and they sound killer.
Again, people love to shit on Ozzy but have you heard superior "singers" like Dio and Halford doing the classic Ozzy stuff? Generally it just sounds fuckin' weird.
    There's only one Ozzy.

I didn't mind Dio singing the Ozzy stuff, but just at a minimum. The Dio material is still good on it's own.

Ozzy could still sing but they left so many good Ozzy era songs on the table because he just couldn't match the original, especially for the final tours. The same tours they offered a lowball contract to Bill Ward because he can't play 'em all like he used to. How ironic.

But what I love about Ozzy over Dio is he didn't do all that extra harmony stuff and improvisation like trying to sing and hum over Tony's solos.

I do think Ian Gillian did the Ozzy stuff well, especially "War Pigs" and "Black Sabbath" live.

But yes, there is only ONE Ozzy. I hope we get more live releases in the future.

    #112 3 years ago
    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

I think Ozzy was just lazy and didn't feel like "learning" any "new" songs. Geezer said as much. His voice is still good enough to sing anything from the first 3 albums and it's not like they were busting out The Wizard. It was just the same set more or less they'd been playing for 15 years.
The Bill Ward situation sucked but I really put that on Bill. I don't think he really wanted to tour. I think he was afraid he couldn't hack it. Mentally and physically he's been in rough shape for a very long time.
People forget Bill bailed out of yet ANOTHER recent Sabbath reunion at the last minute; the "Heaven and Hell" reunion with dio in 2007 or so. He was originally part of that show but once again quit right before the tour started with more bullshit explanations so they called up Vinny. I don't think he WANTED to do these tours and that's why there was always some reason he "couldn't." I have a hard time believing the real reason he didn't do those shows was because he didn't like the contract. He took those complaints public awfully early and didn't really seem interested in actually making it happen.
Sharon was the easy boogyman there but the show had to go on. I'll cherish those reunion/final tour shows I saw they were fuckin killer, and Ozzy's fill in drummer did a great job.
I know it's a different time now, but here's bill recently admitting he can't play any more
    https://ultimateclassicrock.com/bill-ward-black-sabbath/

I dont entirely sympathize for Bill, as much as I love the guy. I think obviously the drinking did some damage. But I feel like in those later years he took exception to the 4 of them not being acknowledged as equals, and not just from a performing standpoint. The whole Bill thing is just a bummer.

    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Good album. I just think the general public wasn’t too interested in seeing tony and three no name scabs parading around as sabbath.

You watch your mouth! Cozy Powell was no scrub.

Charo can front Black Sabbath and I'd still go for Tony's riffs.

    #114 3 years ago

I just thought of something. Stern could make a Sabotage LE and utilize the mirror on the album cover to be an actual mirrored backglass.

    Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

Just picked up the Sabotage deluxe box. Finally a decent remaster (my last Sabbath haul was the Castle releases in the 90s), and the tour book and special retrospective volume are really great.
I have Paranoid and Vol 4 - Anyone know if there’s a Deluxe version of the first album? Still waiting for Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

I really need to pick those up.

No first album yet, but I am certainly looking forward to a Sabbath Bloody Sabbath release with live material.

    #129 2 years ago
    Quoted from guitarded:

Charo is the better guitarist. No shit.

She is fantastic, but I was saying from the perspective of anyone can be the singer for Sabbath and would still see them regardless as long as Tony is there. Plus Geezer, even better.

    #131 2 years ago
    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

The general public didn't really agree with this sentiment, as Sabbath's declining attendance and general fortunes as the 80s went on can attest to.
I love Sabbath and I love Tony, but if Ozzy - or a lesser degree, Dio - isn't involved I really have little interest. There was a certain magic and chemistry there that just isn't present if Tony Martin is up front accompanied by two other scabs.

I think each line up had its moments, but of course Ozzy had an incredible solo career and became iconic, so it did overshadow the band in those years.

Which is unfortunate because they did have good albums in the 80s. Born Again being one of my favorites, with Ian Gillan on vocals. It's such a killer album.

    #135 2 years ago

HEAVY is right. Purple meets Sabbath. What's not to love?

    #137 2 years ago

Yeah, they had ELO drummer Bev Bevan on that tour as well. I love the whole album. I don't think Gillan could ever sing like that ever since.

    #141 2 years ago

Next pinball depression threads are depressing. So whenever I get depressed, this song takes me away.

It's a favorite of both John Bonham and Frank Zappa, plus Ian Gillan insisted on singing it during his time in Sabbath.

I just realized, if there is a Vol. 4 themed pin (black cab with white logo and band member silouettes) that would look incredible next to the LZ Premium, whose art is also minimalistic.

Whatever happens, if it happens, I hope they do it right. I'd like to see a throwback psychedelic 70s art style for sure.

13 tracks from 70-78 that l they could realistically use (with plenty more left out.) How many tracks did Rush have?

    N.I.B.
    Paranoid
    Iron Man
    Children of the Grave
    Into the Void
    Tomorrow's Dream
    Supernaut
    Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
    Spiral Architect
    Hole in the Sky
    Symptom of the Universe
    All Moving Parts
    Never Say Die

Would like to have "Black Sabbath", "War Pigs", and "Supertzar" for modes.

    #153 2 years ago
    Quoted from Coindork:

    You forgot snow blind.

They should make it to where you can unlock tons of songs including live versions. Take the live footage from concerts in each decade they played. This game could be SOOO loaded as far as video and song content is concerned plus i'm sure layout would be great given some of the talent right now.

    #180 1 year ago
    Quoted from Jamesays:

What will the playfield have obviously an Iron Man and a Wizard ? what else ? if GNR gets what 21 tunes Sabbath should as well.

I think certainly incorporate the Henry logo and a cross, which is a given. Also something with spirals in the artwork, referencing the Vertigo logo and also reference to those moving spirals in that old black and white Paranoid music video. They can also make use of the fighter pilot image from Never Say Die, which has since become iconic.

They also need to reference the city of Birmingham. Kinda how LZ had that London vibe to it. Sabbath is totally Birmingham.

I'm hoping for really cool features that will serve to enhance the gameplay too.
