I'm having trouble with my ramp that lifts up over Davey Jones locker.when it goes to raise it's not catching and it repeats a few times then gives up. If I hold the ramp up the mech will catch then hold the ramp or if I put a little pressure at the top or hold my finger above it anywhere so when it kicks up it hits my finger it will catch every time.has anyone else had this problem?I've been fiddling with it for a bit and at my wits end.it happened once before and I couldn't figure it out then it just started working again for 6 months but this time it's being an asshole lol.

Quoted from dudah:

I had this issue also.
Take apart the whole thing and clean everything.
There should be no lubricant anywhere.
Replace the coil sleeve.
The arm at the top that does the ramp lifting, I had to stick it towards the outer edge of the groove, not seated all the way in.
All good now!

I'm assuming you did this from under the playfield?

#756 5 years ago

dudah thanks for the help but all it did was make my back hurt from hunching lol.I cleaned it all up and put it back together and still won't catch unless I take the weight off the mech or add weight so I put a small strip of cushion tape under the ramp on the little bracket that the mech pushes up and it works perfect. I almost tried that first but I wanted to fix it the "right" way.

I paid 2600 for mine with faded cab, near perfect diamond plated playfield, art blades and led and in felt ingot a very fair deal so 3k is not a crazy price imo.

Mine goes to the ball lock and I also shoot all shots for video mode to the ball lock since it's hard to miss

I'm pretty sure my upper flipper always work and aren't "turned off" in multiball or similar.

Yours is working correctly then

Quoted from Bax1:

Just joined the club a week ago. did a flipper rebuild yesterday and man this game plays crazy fast now. does anyone else have an issue with the whirlpool wire form, having the ball fly off if you do a nice quick shot? not sure if it's due to the flippers being powerful again.

Yes I've bent it a little and mostly eliminated the problem, mostly.

Quoted from Bax1:

so does everyone have the black lightning flippers or did they go with the standard size flippers? I have standard on right now but feel like they are to long. sometimes the ball will get stuck on the lip of the cannon due to trying to catch the ball. Thinking about going to the lightning and see how it feels.

Standard flipper.there must be an issue with your game to bad there's no good local techs near you.

#1522 2 years ago
Quoted from Bax1:

Oh they are in the right place but I almost feel they are to long. Was curious how it plays with the lightning flippers. It originally came with lightning didn’t it?

No,atleast not to my knowledge.ive played about 10 different machines and they've all had standard flippers.

#1524 2 years ago
Quoted from Bax1:

Are you sure? Could swear the manual calls for the lightning flippers

Yes I'm sure it's a standard black flipper bat with Williams logo

Quoted from MattElder:

Yes, BR came with black lighting flippers. When I had a BR and overhauled it I put those back on. Game play was fine with either type, but, as a preference, I just typically stick with what was original.

That is not what the manual says and I find it hard to believe that many people switched the flippers out.i would like to see some documentation stating the part number of the lightning flipper. I have seen a few others state this opinion of lightning flipper but I've found more proof to the contrary.

#1531 2 years ago

Well I have to come eat crow. I have flipper bat covers I added to my flippers years ago and peeled them up to see what was underneath and wouldn't you know black lightning flippers. Put them on so long ago and in my early collectiong days and didn't realize I had a game with lightning flippers.

#1537 2 years ago
Quoted from Bax1:

what does that crow taste like? lol. I will post a pic of the bats I have on mine tonight while I'm playing. I think they are to long and I will show why.

Taste alot like humble pie and I'm not a big fan of the taste

Quoted from Bax1:

Question for you BR owners. Does your upper flipper always active when hitting the button? Can you control it by doing a light press? Just want to check due to having a f6 upper right flipper button error upon start up. Wondering if the opto is bad

Pretty sure you can stage flip but I'll check when I get home if no one else chimes in.
