Quoted from EStroh:

I just put a clear playfield protector on mine. I was still a little worried about the cannon/playfield transition, especially since the wood "tapered" a little due to wear in the usual spot. I put a metal cliffy down on top of the clear playfield to protect the edge of the clear protector. After raising the cannon a little, I'm pretty happy with the result.

Hi EStroh!

This is one of the things I told you; this is real shape of Black Rose Centre Apron. This is the first time in this hobby!

"Black Rose Centre Pinball Apron" (BALLY) restored by Zona Arcade & Mikonos.

Got the new Freeplay40 ramps installed and they are beautiful. My originals were busted up and would not have lasted much longer.

Greetings

Are these adhesive decals, water decals, will they be die cut?
How do you sell these, is there a store, website?
I also like your work. However, buying your Black Rose Translite was a huge disappointment for me couple years back. There was no clear window for display and your reasoning was beyond not acceptable once we communicated. To this date I have a piece of art but no usable translite. Why you didnt make the window clear is still beyond me. Sure, i could razor blade the window out, then find a clear to cover hole. But for the price i paid I got screwed.
Buyer beware when dealing with this seller.

Ericpinballfan, all my fan artwork are one of the most precise and accuracy you can find in all net. Even shoppers don´t show their owns artworks like me with bigger screenshots.

About precut in "Back Rose Translite", when I receive a request from other fan, I try to save money for him. Like you know, if I order a precut by machine for whatever artwork, it will be more expensive. It is logical because you will need another machine and more work from a printer.

Let´s see, this is my copy with "window" cut by me with my own hands and a domestic cutter:

"Black Rose Pinball Translite" (BALLY) reproduction printed in HQ backlite (photo 1).
https://www.zonaarcade.com/fotos/artes/Black%20Rose%20Pinball%20Translite%20print1.JPG
Black Rose Pinball Translite print1.jpgBlack Rose Pinball Translite print1.jpg
My original thread here:

https://zonaarcade.forumcommunity.net/?t=60751169#entry433914029

And this is another copy without "window" cut (your copy):

"Black Rose Pinball Translite" (BALLY) reproduction printed in HQ backlite (photo 3).
https://www.zonaarcade.com/fotos/artes/Black%20Rose%20Translite%20Pinball%20Ericpinballfan%20print3.JPG
Black Rose Translite Pinball Ericpinballfan print3.jpgBlack Rose Translite Pinball Ericpinballfan print3.jpg

Well, I think it is not so difficult to cut it, but, Ok, respect your opinion and your not recommendation about this piece. This "Translite" is not same that "Aprons" that have a complex shapes. In this case, it is necessary a precut work by a machine or a lot of patience to cut by hand with a scissors.

Untitled-2 (resized).jpgUntitled-2 (resized).jpg

If another user prefers it, I will cut "window" before shipping. I will not have a problem for to order it.

Price of precut in a machine is around $15-$20 and a little more expensive if printer have to design precut lines too.

Greetings

I am having trouble that the Lockup Enter Switch (71) creates a Slam Tilt (21). When activating the switch (Lock enter) by hand it works correctly on the start of a ball, however after any other switch has been activated it (Lock enter) goes to slam tilt. I have disconnected all of the actual Slam tilt switches. Any help would be appreciated.

#1310 3 years ago

Check the diodes on the switches in the row and column of switch 71. You will need to lift one side of the diode before testing. You will likely find a bad diode.

Thanks, there are 3 switches in the column & 5 more in the row. Do you know how many slam tilt switches there are? I've found 2 (coin door & bottom of the cabinet)

Joining the Black Rose club soon! Hope to have my pin in about 2 weeks. I really like the theme and layout with all the shots and 3rd flipper. I’ve only played this game a couple times, and I didn’t even know the Davy Jones ramp raises to allow balls to lock under it! Really looking forward to this game. I’ve seen some reviews compare it to a Sys 11, which is hard to believe. I like many Sys 11 pins, but this game looks like it’s got decent rules, several video modes, awesome mechs with a cannon to sink ships! The ramps are awesome too. I have a Stern potc, can’t wait to put this one across from it!

#1313 3 years ago

I don't know the number of slam switches - the switch matrix only shows one. Did you lift the legs of the diodes and test them - all eight of them?

#1314 3 years ago

I had an issue with my AFM were the slam tilt would shut down my game, discovered a switch was stuck in the on position.

#1315 3 years ago

Turned up in the mail today, some awesome new ramps from Freeplay40
Whacked some nice new decals on and they will be put back into storage until such time the Buthamburg repro PF's are ready to go and then this machine is in the queue for a decent refit not just the "let's get it up and running" from when i first bought it.
And yes, i had all the decals remade for the left ramp (plus Davey Jones decal) and had to get more than i needed to get them done otherwise it would have cost me heaps extra and wouldn't have been feasible. I do have some of these sets for sale and also some self designed target decal sets. PM me if interested.
I'm really looking forward to the restore on this machine, i can see myself keeping it in the collection!!

Where did you get the ramp decals?
I have the whirlpool set that planetary sells, but need the ones for the left ramp... The Davy Jones Locker would be nice too!

Just picked up my first pin. Anyone know where this should be plugged in? It’s laying in the upper left ramp coming out of the head.

You can pull the playfield out a little and look behind there.

Best to have 2 people , pull the playfield out of cabinet, make sure you have some support to rest the cannon motor on and I used a towel wrapped 2X4 to support the back.
Make sure you check your switches and Bulbs while it's out!

Your pics are great! Not the easiest table to pull out. Well, pulling all tables out sucks.

Anyone ever going to make the black center cannon plastic on the wire form? Mine has always been cracked, i dont see it, so I try and not let it bother me.
But a custom mod nice bigger longer cannon would be fun. Calling Modfather.

Nice, congrats! My Black Rose is on the way as well. So many of these changing hands lately. In my 16 years in the hobby I have never seen so many up for sale or trade in such a short span of time.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to finally getting one! I searched forever for a non-faded one, and found a newly- redecaled one!

Congrats to you too! New cab decals are awesome. Mine is original, but not faded from what I could see. No cracked plastics and no pf wear, so that’s nice. I just hope the canon is fairly level, I hear it’s quite the headache to level it. At least it’s not an important part of the game.
Post a pic or two of yours when it arrives. Mine is coming in an hour. I should have her set up later tonight!

#1331 3 years ago

My BR arrived today on a pallet. The game overall is fantastic. Very clean, original cab and the playfield has almost no wear at all. No wear around the coin door slots either, and no evidence of ever being routed. Plays great, I got lucky and my cannon fires straight up the pf and sinking ships is great. The Cannon assembly appears fairly level. It’s not perfect, and an occasional ball hop or airball do happen. But it’s almost even with the pf. Added a color DMD and it came with interactive pinstadiums to brighten it up. This game is very well-designed, imho. Great ramps and shots.

Only bummer was game was shipped on its back, resting on a pallet with only some plastic wrap under it. So the 2 rails on the back were pretty crushed. The two top (when the game is upright) corners also got smushed a bit. Sad to see that with such a beauty. I removed the rails and will replace those, so no major loss there. I did some light repairs to the corners and the head covers those anyway. Thankfully the game survived and plays great. Hoping it finds a place in our collection long term!

Congrats on you game!

if you are going to use the so called leg protectors, be sure to use this to prevent it from eating into the cabinet.

https://www.pinballlife.com/metal-cabinet-protectors-set-of-4.html

#1333 3 years ago

Looks like it has a copy of a Cliffy protector on the front edge of the cannon?? unless someone has added some extra on top of it as they are usually just shiny metal. Shame about the damage to the back of the cab, must admit i've seen plenty of machines shipped that way but not one i can think of that sustained damage to the rear rails, etc Otherwise looks to be in really nice condition

Got another question. I have the external backup batteries but doesn’t seem to work. When I unplug I lose all settings, etc. new batteries. Any ideas?

Although the games clock doesn't like them, it's better than having to check batteries and worry about damage to my boards

What is the best way to fix the Fire Button? Doesn’t seem to be working unless you pound on it. Can it be replaced with some other mechanism? Also anyone have any ideas on fixing my bar? Looks like a terrible weld job!

Check the gap of the switch... you can also use the flippers as well! If my lockdown bar was showing welds I would replace or have it powder coated black

#1340 3 years ago

The switch for the fire button is a membrane switch. There is a supposed fix where you inject something into the membrane, but I never tried it, since several people tried and had no luck.

To me, the best bet would be to replace it with a switch, but there's a lot more engineering than I care to do. For mine, I went into the menu settings and allowed the left flipper button to act as the fire button.

I noticed the tracks were lose and upon inspection found it’s not attached. Can someone tell me what is supposed to be in this hole to hold it down? I see a post under there but not sure if takes a screw or if there’s a nut on the post underneath and it was put back together with it on the post. Hoping not to have to tear it down to get to it!

I use NVRams in my Data East, Sega, and Stern Whitestar games because the ram chips are socketed and the installations are easy. On Bally & Williams games the ram chips are soldered to the boards and removal and installation of a socket are beyond my soldering skills. I have found Frank’s Lithium Battery Boards-for BALLY-WILLIAMS within my soldering skill level. https://www.tntamusementsstore.com/wptnt/product/franks-famous-battery-board/

Even quicker to deal with is the Energizer AA Lithium batteries. They last for years as well. Add an external battery holder if you really want to go no-maintenance.

Question about the cannon: When i first start up the game the cannon rotates pretty slowly (especially at the far right & left)...not quite stuck but just slow to start /seems to struggle then begins to move normally. This gets better after a few games and seems to run fine in the cannon test mode. Is there a regular lubrication maintenance process that i can't find ....seems i would start there. If so, does anyone have instructions or suggestions on type of lubricant? Hoping i'm not looking at a new motor.
Thanks.

If I recall correctly I think the manual mentions lubricating the slit in the three "metal blocks" that the cannon assembly slides through.

Generally I do not lubricate things at all as the lubricant normally gathers dust and other particles that in the end only makes it worse. If you do lubricate anyway make sure it's synthetic? grease (PTFE? forgot the proper name).
