Got a Black Knight last month and it needed an overhaul. I may do a proper restoration at some point, right now I’m focusing in getting it working again.

Boards are ruined or at very least beyond my repair abilities. Batteries were left in so lots of alkaline damage. No dates were on the batteries but based on the label it appears they were in there since 1990.

The good is that the playfield has very little wear. I think the machine had an early death and sat someone wet. There is a definite smell.

The only thing I could really get to work was there GI. Ordered new Mpu and driver from kohout. So I focused on cleaning the top and plastics. Switched the gi bulbs to led. Added some new bulbs on the right side to light that area.

Boards came in last Thursday. Game plays but all the switches needs to be cleaned or adjusted. Changed all my inserts to leds. I was hoping the sound board could be salvaged, but it was also dead. So I need to wait on a new one.

Fairly big chip in the head and one side is pulling away. I could fix the head but I rather rebuild it. Body is mostly okay. Could use a paint job. Backglass is more clear than paint, I will order a new one.

New backglass came in today. Looks great, thanks cpr.

Still waiting on a new soundboard from kohout.

The more I look at the head, the more likely I am to just rebuild the whole thing. All the light sockets are corroded, lots of moisture damage. Should just start fresh.

The insert needed to be rebuilt. Most of the sockets were corroded and when I pulled the wires off the back, most of the staples just disintegrated. Pulled it all apart and screwed it down to a new sheet of mdf. Used the old one as a pattern.

Here is my insert painted and wired. Had to fight with the wiring, shorts, and fuses. But it seems to be good to go now.
