Making a trade and I get to choose between these two machines and I keep going back and forth. Both are player quality machines and will require some work to get up to speed, but that seems to be about the same for both. Really looking for the one that is the most fun for repeated play as my collection is small. Okay....go!!!

#2 10 years ago

I would say Gorgar but I am biased and most likely in the minority.
Both are great though. Black hole has that tough multiball but Gorgar is just awesome to look at and can be a toughie too.
You win either way!

Condition would be key too.

Are you trading you Magic Castle by chance? That looks like a cool game too.

#5 10 years ago

I am. It is a cool game, but I've been playing it for 2 years and ready to move on. Trading it to Methos for his Flash Gordon and 1 of these two. Building the herd.

#6 10 years ago

Black Hole hands down.

#7 10 years ago

Sounds like a good deal both ways. Seeing as you are getting a Flash Gordon too get the Black Hole. Would be too much red w/ gorgar. Also, Flash Gordon is a ball breaker like Gorgar. Unless you are a glutton for punishment

BH- so much more going on.

Get the Black Hole. Fast and furious, requires accurate shots and setting up the lower playfield for high scoring. Best tilt sound ever.

#10 10 years ago

Black Hole!
Multiball and under playfeild rules

#11 10 years ago

Black Hole!!! Can't go wrong.

#12 10 years ago

This isn't even close...and truly would have never seen this match up coming......BH by a WIDE, WIDE margin......HUGE.

#13 10 years ago

Have had both machines in my collection for a very long time.
Will agree with most and sat BH all the way.

#14 10 years ago

Have both ... Black Hole is the answer.

#15 10 years ago

No question - BH

#16 10 years ago

BH is better, but there is just something about Gorgar that makes me want one. Probably because it's the first pinball machine I can remember playing.

#17 10 years ago

black hole is way cool.......oooohh noooo re - enrty

#18 10 years ago

I like Gorgar but cmon ... Black Hole wins

also ... can we pleeeease get the BH abbreviation changed from Big Hurt to Black Hole?? Nobody talks about Big Hurt!

(also: is there a list anywhere of all supported abbreviations?)

#19 10 years ago

Black Hole for me

#20 10 years ago

+1 BH All the way!

#21 10 years ago

Black Hole for sure.

#24 10 years ago

gorgar for reliability and ease of service. Black Hole for cool factor and gameplay longevity. Both cool games though.

Personally. I would probably go for a nice Gorgar.

Has to be a way to pull it from IPDB...

Supported.....All in Favor?.....

Motion carried.

Both in perfect working order: BH.

If you're not a pinball guy and don't know about repairs, etc., Gorgar.

Remember too that Gorgars come up a lot more often than Blackholes.

--Do you dare enter the black hole?

#28 10 years ago

Black Hole has more going on, but Gottlieb System 80s are more challenging to keep in proper repair than Williams games like Gorgar.

#29 10 years ago

Have both. Black Hole by a country mile!

#30 10 years ago

BH for gameplay - but I understand the comments about maintenance.
You can install a Janin board if worried by aging Gottlieb electronics.

Note that if you plan to move your pin often, bring it to festivals, tourneys, parties... BH is really heavy!!

With the well-documented ground modifications to system 80s that gap narrows quite a bit. My two system 80s (BH & Devil's Dare) have run rock solid.

#32 10 years ago

My whole System 80 collection is rock solid.

Thanks all! The decision has been made and going with the Black Hole with the trade this weekend. I'll likely be starting the ground mods next week and I'm sure I'll have questions.

#34 10 years ago

you have made the correct choice

I said my System 80 collection is rock solid, never said I was.

I would go for the BH... BH and HH are super cool games

#39 10 years ago

I can't believe I'm seeing a thread with so much agreement on Pinside! And me? I couldn't agree more... Black Hole.

#40 10 years ago

Gorgar has a waaayyy better art package!

#41 10 years ago

I'm very surprised. I absolutely hated Black Hole when I played it.

#42 10 years ago

IMAG2716.jpgIMAG2716.jpg

I've owned both now, just got my recently picked up BH rolling, not much of a contest imho

#43 10 years ago

Having played both the sound and speech or cool on both oh hell even the art is nice. I'm for the Black Hole anytime yes it's not easy but Gorgar seems hard at 1st but it dosen't take long to master it at least in me own personal experience. I would get a Gorgar my self but space and money are the problem for me so any machine i get has to have long term replay for me. Black Hole always commands respect to due the tough multi ball and dual play fields. With new boards out like Janin's and others or just doing the proper board fixes on the old boards i don't see this is a reason to not get it.

#44 10 years ago

Black Hole! So much fun!

#45 10 years ago

Consider this another vote for Black Hole.

Just remembered I had this link. Pinwiki has the same info, but this is laid out pretty good:

Thanks pinster!!! Fired up. Today is the day. Poor Methos is going to have to help navigate my stairs 3 times.

Congratulations on getting a Black Hole! Post a few pictures for us once you get it set up and play a few games.
