I have an extra system 80 sound Speech Board with Black Hole sound chips. It was rebuilt with new caps and repairs and ground mods done to it. It gives me some issues with my connector needing to get reseated every so often. $125 plus shipping. It’s in the marketplace

I was just over in this thread and people were talking about prop rods:

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/rant-wheres-the-playfield-prop-rod#post-3938716

Does anyone have a H-style prop rod in their game? (I know this isn't a BH playfield)

Quoted from solarvalue:

There is no room for an "H" style playfield prop rod inside Black Hole.
I found a way of using the lockdown bar to hold the top playfield; it is tricky but it can be done.
I did manage a long time ago of adding a regular prop rod to a Black Hole game, and it
worked out quite nicely.

I have a brand new Swemmer Sound Speech board with Black Hole chips and Swemmer sound speech power supply board if anyone is interested in the combo. Turns out I didn't need it.

Has anyone had trouble with the pop bumpers not firing 100% of the time? I've tried everything i can think of to get them working properly, sensitivity and power-wise. They are strong and *usually* fire, but every so often one will get a direct hit from the ball and not react. I rebuilt all the pop bumper boards with upgrade capacitors etc as per Clay's guide. Only thing that hasn't been changed is the chips or the big transistors (except on one board i subbed in a TIP102 also as per Clay's guide)... i also installed new pop bumper switches from PBR. I replaced the female connectors to the pop bumper driver boards and re-flowed solder to the male pins. Should i install new male pins perhaps?

It drives me nuts because they all work most of the time, but i especially notice the bumpers on the main pf just intermittently don't fire. They'll work over and over when pushed by hand, though.

Repin the 5V and ground pins (9+18) of A1J6 maybe?

Already tried. I've replaced nearly all the edge connectors in the game with the exception of score displays 1&3, and the double sided edge connector that plugs into the bottom of the driver board. (the cpu to driver board double-sided connector was recently replaced as well)

PopBumpers are not CPU controlled.
There is a small "one shot" board which fires the coil independent of the CPU.
http://pinball-mods.com/blogs/?p=4

If you have know good PBDB board... it may just be the nature of the oneshot circuitry.

Thanks for the info! Think I'm gonna try swapping a couple of the pop bumper driver boards around and see if i can notice any difference. Might just be the nature of the boards though, as you said.

Thanks again!

My favorite pin. Been getting one restored and hope to have it soon. For now, I enjoy The Pinball Arcade's version as much as I can since there are no working ones near me.

Here is a video of me getting 31 million on it and having to stop because I had to leave for work.

On the left kicker does it have sound effects or score any points?

I have noticed on some simulations that they do, original does not have it, so i don't know if that score counts.

TPA is 100% accurate on the simulation for black hole. You should be able to tell by watching the video.

I'm looking to replace the spinning disk motor in the back box, found instructions here for the servocity motor: http://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Black_Hole

Quick question for anyone that's gone this route: do i order the motor, hub, hub adapter (it's apparently easier than tapping threads into motor shaft), and screws? To be more specific, do i need both the hub and hub adapter?

Thanks!

Sounds like yes, you need both. " Extra screws (as listed below) will be needed to mount the hub adapter to the hub."

Plus, you can't use a hub adapter if you don't have a hub to adapt.

Awesome, thanks for the response! I'll order up all the parts and finally retire the noisey old motor.

Can any explain the benefits during gameplay with adding the Pascal board? I'm thinking about making the switch and wanted to see what it adds

#1423 6 years ago

Gives you a ball save, the ability to hold start to reset a game. I think that’s it?

#1424 6 years ago

pasted from web page thought the was more then this just haven't found it on the http://www.flippp.fr/pi80.php page I seem to remember that he allowed a setting to have 3 ball scoring while is was set for 5 ball play. There was talk of lane change function but not sure if it was done or not now you gonna make me go search again for all the details. I haven't done it seeing my factory stuff works fine. I was looking in to it for 7 digit scoring. I love the pi-x4 board in my system one.

- reliability and robustness
- new features: chance ball, multiple extraballs, special that can give points, difficulty levels, scores up to 10M (System-80) or 100M (System-80A), etc..
- lower power consumption and heat dissipation (double switching power supply stage)
- advanced hardware protections against failures (power supply, switch matrix, coils..)

Quoted from 27dnast:

I almost think it also has a skill shot feature, like the System 1 replacement boards, but I couldn't find written confirmation.

I'd suggest sending an email to Pascal and asking about what additional features there are.

#1426 6 years ago

I have them in my black hole. I’m not aware of a skill shot feature.

I've got a good player transforming into a great player.. In the middle of a teardown. I'm in need. Thought I would check here.

- Blue Plexi for credit & ball in play on apron
- "B" drop target
- Top PF: LH lower playfield - small triangle
- Top PF: RH lower playfield - below RH flippers

Also, does anybody have water transfers already done for the pop bumper areas?
This image is my cleaned up and waxed state. Not sure if I want to paint (newb). Also a newb to water transfer.
I'm considering just installing new GTB mylar disks and call it a day, but I am interested in transfers.

I'm back in the club...and I'm pleased to say that I think I scored a really really nice example. My last one was OK. This one supposedly was one-owner since 89, and huo before that, but I can't verify. It's been out of operation for a few years as the owner was liquidating his collection, so I'm bringing it back to life.

That said, I would say that this is pretty friggin clean. Most of the PF has mylar on it. So far just the usual system 80 stuff I need to do...rebuilding the pop bumper boards, ground mods (although someone did ground the CPU, but that's about it), and replace the disc motor.

That is a good one!
Couple things suggest it could have been on location for a while, or maybe not, anyway it is still exceptionally nice. Mine is blown out around the pops (did not have mylar), and was operated long enough that the attract mode ball gate activity made a dent where it strikes the metal.

Noticed the top bumper skirt flares out at the bottom instead of the top. That got flipped around sometime.

Have you found anyone with new plastics?

New upper playfield plastics pbr# GTB-21229+ lower playfeild plastics pbr# GTB-21304+ black hole parts whats being made can be had from pinball resource. I will warn you once you see available parts its going to take some restraint to not just ask for everything but who's not going to not want a nice looking Black Hole

#1438 6 years ago

Does anyone make a main disc? Mine is still nice but I’d love a nos or new one for vibrant color

#1439 6 years ago

Turns out they have a dedicated page for BH parts. Can see how this could get costly.
EDIT: Don't know who has the revolving disks, was replying to the previous message. Good luck.

Quoted from REGNE:

I opened the hood last night for you.
See the excerpts from the manual also. I color coded and corrected a numbering error I found.
- BLUE: shows 1 3/16" post locations (4 upper and 3 lower)
* "7th location" is under the plastic. It bows up a bit, but maybe Gottlieb had trouble with the ball smacking the plastic.
- RED: shows 1" Siamese posts (5 upper)
- GREEN: I did not see a A-9394, but according to the manual there is one White A-9393.
- PURPLE: shows metal acorn nut. 39 locations. (23 upper & 16 lower)
* My upper playfield re-entry gate has one on left hand side of the gate.
* also above the RH PB on lower playfield there is no hole in plastics, so no nut required.

I looked in my Instruction Manual and didn't see this part list or rubber list. Where is it? I need to print these as I am missing a handful of rubbers from the kit and need to know what post goes where!

Thanks!

Hello, So with my Black hole machine, i'm having a problem with the Bottom Capture where it won't release the ball at the end of a game but will instead release it at the start of the next game which kind of causes a mix up of balls in that next game. Like if you get the multiball going, it works just fine with releasing it on cue and the other capture hole works perfectly fine as well. it also holds onto the ball for the rest of the game after you get the ball in it once, and i think that's actually supposed to happen? I also just got the PI 80 4 in 1 board and put it in my game, not for this reason but for others, and it did this before i put the board in and now as well. I've checked the switches to see if anything is acting up, before it was showing switch 25 but now it just shows nothing. Help? like its not that real big of a deal tho but just a little annoying.

Does anyone have pictures or a diagram of the gearbox for the spinning motor? My machine was missing the whole assembly so I managed to source one but I got it as both halves separated and a baggie of gears.

huh...it was something with the links not working. The link kept going to the generic sys80 page, I went to sys 80 -> black hole and there it is as #3

Can someone remind me how you get the backglass to slide out? I opened up the head, unscrewed the side holder but the inner frame wont swing out on the bottom, the top starts to swing out.... I replaced it with led's so I must of opened it a year or two ago but can't remember now.

Considering joining the club. I'm looking at a pretty nice Black Hole that the guy says is fully working. How much of a maintenance nightmare is this game really? What is a fair price for one in nice condition that is working?

thanks guys.
