Merry Christmas Pinsiders,

When I switch it on and start a new game, my Bally Star Trek immediately scores the Y in Bally when the ball is fed to the plunger. It only does this onthe first game after booting up. It plays fine for players 2, 3 and 4. If you finish the first game and start a second one-player game it doesn't happen either. The switch is gapped correctly and an optical inspection didn't reveal anything untoward. Banging the playfield doesn't trigger the switch.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Quoted from YeOldPinPlayer:

What are the switch numbers on the matrix for the Y and the shooter lane switches?

I don‘t know. I will see if that’s in the manual.

Quoted from zacaj:

Bad capacitor on the switch?

Ok, that’s an easy part to replace.

Wow! Cool site Peter. I will replace the capacitor when there is a break in Christmas activities

I replaced both the capacitor and the diode. It seems to be behaving, at least for the time-being

Argh... Just tested it again. Again when starting the first game, the Y Switch activated.

Any ideas where to look next?

It mostly happens on the very first game after booting up, and only for Player 1, ball 1.

The credit button has a diode. Could that be the culprit?

Can I test it in the game?

#16 4 years ago

I have been observing this for a couple of days. The fault sometimes happens, but only on Player 1, Ball 1, with one exception: one time it also happened on Player 1, Ball 2. That suggests it’s the ball return switch or the ball return relay, but then why does it never happen to Player 2,3 and 4.

If it was going to stay at home I’d ignore it, but this is going to be the next Pin at my church. Oh well, I’ll test it for a few more days and see if it gets worse.

Thx for your support.
