Great work on the code and for finally getting the version history published. It's the most detailed I've ever seen on any game. Now we can all see the great updates and additons to the code
Very much apprecaited

Just remember guys it is Tanio and Lonnie on this together

Right, but never have we seen this detailed a release notes, right? From Lonnie or from Sheats, for that matter.

Can the thumbs down guy come up with a game that has more verbose release notes than ST, if he disagrees?

It's not a knock on Lonnie or Lyman. It's just fact.

#5 10 years ago

So Waison just fetches the coffee around there I guess? You never hear of him involved in anything except getting blamed for x-men updates.

#6 10 years ago

He went through a lot of growing pains with XM, but I will say that I like where the code finally ended up. Others may disagree, but I think it's solid.

#7 10 years ago

I don't know I think the ACDC release notes are pretty well done.

#8 10 years ago

I guess I'm just a developer. Thanks for release notes 3 days after release? Should be at time of not a second later. Otherwise how do you know whether you should or should not update.

If I pushed a release without notes I'd be skewered.

While I do agree, I am glad that we finally got them so I can decide to upgrade.
Hopefully this is not the norm.

They released code on Xmas eve. Cut them some slack.

That said; Lyman did awesome with acdcs release notes.

Last time I checked no one was having any issues with any light boards on Star Trek just saying

#14 10 years ago
Quoted from musketd:

For you, they may not be. For an operator, it has to be worth the effort to do an upgrade. It's a PITA to have to go back and re-apply settings and custom pricing. I still haven't pushed the last update on METLE because the hammer works fine and the release notes tell me that update was marginal, so I'll wait for the next one.

This has NOTHING to do with this thread.

Simply stating about the notes bro that's all; just saying who cares about the notes if the game functions properly.

#17 10 years ago
Quoted from musketd:

I think they are. I doubt many of us would even notice everything that was added or changed without release notes. Its also nice to see just how much content has been added and what has been fixed.

Well you can't say that any more, you now know that I've dealt/am dealing with ST light board issues.

Add "developer" to the list of things Alex does at JJP.

=Public Relations (obviously)
=Tech Support (but only when things go well... Absent when there are no known solutions)
=Shipping Expeditor
=Invoice Tracking Specialist
=Supply Chain Management
=Videographer
=Truck Loader

Pinside really needs to start charging dealers to post here.

I am also having light board issues so it is not only one board set.

Yup. I dev the os, release mechanism, etc.

I guess some of us are just multi faceted.

And if I was only around when things are working I guess then I must do a crappy tech support job as you can see the hundreds of posts for how bad our support is {/sarcasm}

Remind me again what you have done for this community? I can't seem to find anything...

So according to MusketD rules it is acceptable to hype every Stern release, play 'na na na boo boo I know stuff that you don't", and talk shit to other companies, but you don't like it when you get things called like they are pertaining to yourself...

Glad we could get this all out in the open.

Alright yeah your right I don't support other people like Skit B, JJP, or JPOP.
First off I helped out SKit B with a bunch of stuff and I also fully support JPOP and I have a HOBBIT on preorder; so yep I only support Stern. geez

Just my friendly outside observation, I don't know you, and as far as I know we've never even spoken here:

If you're going to sell Stern games then you might want to be more careful about how you post. I like Coin Taker LEDs, they're in all my games, always been happy with the experience. LEDs are basically non-partisan though. Any brand of game can use them. But the way you boost Stern (really, updates are nice but not necessary, are you kidding me?) is actually a real turn off. People notice that. If I order a Star Trek it won't be from someone who gets down into the mud on these threads. It doesn't leave a good taste. I like pinball, not brands, not Gary or Jack.

I expect the irrelevant Alex downvoting and WOZ crapping from the usual people, it's the price you pay for enjoying Pinside, but as I don't interact with them as a general rule, I don't really care. They can be minor irritants and I just move on with the day. You on the other hand are always posting for potential customers, you never know who you might interact with. Just something to think about.

Alex is 100% right here, updates need to come with notes. Every single time. If you don't have them ready, and it's Xmas Eve, then you wait until you do. People will live. Don't apologize for Stern.

#28 10 years ago

As much as I like Pinchroma (Alex was really helpful when I had WOZ issues), he did throw the first stone by suggesting that Stern dropped the ball, releasing notes days after the update.
Had this been posted from a StarTrek owner, mayyyyyybe it would carry some weight but in this case, it appears as though it's just an easy poke-the-bear comment.

To those criticizing Stern for the delay, check out the day and time the code was released. Stern could have delayed the release until the notes were released, or they could have released it when they did.

I was glad to have it Xmas eve, even without the notes.
I also don't mind that the notes took 4 days for release since there's Xmas, Boxing Day, 1 legit work day (if Stern was even open), and then a weekend.

#29 10 years ago
Quoted from Chambahz:

Because they did. It's that simple. You can hand wave and say "but Christmas eve!" all you want, they dropped the ball. If you release new code you release the notes. We're an excitable bunch, and we installed it anways, and life went on. But that doesn't change Stern's basic professional obligation, and they should get called out on it, not thanked for doing it later.

Is it the end of the world? Of course not. It's pinball, it's a game, and it's just some rule changes, big deal. But there's no excuse for it, and if you're downvoting Alex for it it's because he works on WOZ. That simple. One glance at who did the downvoting and my point is proven. Usual suspects, doing the same tired dance they always do.

I asked in the where are the notes thread where the notes for 1.3 were previously. All I got were crickets. Were they released before this last 1.4.1 update somewhere? Maybe I missed it.

I am a star trek owner. Have a pro incoming.

And Aur, there weren't any release notes AT ALL for any previous releases. The release notes just showed up for this and the previous ones. That was my point. I won't even push a release without notes. I have personally held up a release because the notes weren't ready yet. It's part of a professional release process.

#31 10 years ago

Yeah, that's what I thought. That's garbage, plain and simple. People need to stop apologizing for Stern for this, and expect more. We're going to get our code for the games that need it, and don't think it would be coming for games like X-Men if we weren't vocal about expecting it. Don't sell ourselves short.

Im so glad you guys have the time to get notes out for your 1 game at the same time as code is released.

Stern may not be perfect but they have people working on multiple games so if notes cant be released at the same time the code hits i'm sure we can make it through a few days till they are posted.

Notes are done as an iterative part of development. Also tell me the other game Tanio is working on again that he has to do that much multitasking? I'm not talking about JJP. I'm talking as a customer and a developer. Don't release without notes. And yeah 2 months and 2 days are equivalent amounts of time.

First off, that's apologetic crap (edit: sorry, don't mean to sound so harsh or like I'm personally attacking you, but really, notes and code is basic practice, don't try and cover for them!). Sorry, but it is. Notes with code, period. That goes for all code, any manufacturer, frankly any industry.

Secondly, as we were just discussing, it wasn't a few days. There were no notes for the previous releases at all. If I'm wrong please point me to the thread discussing them and I'll happily admit my mistake.

Considering I have NOTHING to do with that end of things yeah let's.... But I suspect you won't respond given you have no leg to stand on and know nothing about development which is obvious.

Just for the record, I agree, I kinda want to buy one! But I'd really like code update notes like there should be too.

I'm Taking "The Oath" to not play any version of game code unless I have read notes!
Give me a F'n break! Really?
It's Pinball! Play it and discover what's new, It's actually pretty fun.

This was my main beef. I can have a little patience with 1.4. It was the no release notes for any prior release when 1.4 was released.

It wasn't a few days? Code released on the 24th and notes hit when they released 1.41 so by my math that was 3-4 days. I guess some people are more uptight over a few days then others.

Sorry, let me try and explain it again. There were no notes for 1.3 before. Ever. So when I say it was more than a few days I'm not talking about the gap between the 24th and 1.4.1 I'm saying it was way too long.

Again, if someone can show me the thread where we discussed the 1.3 code notes when it was released I'll gladly admit I was wrong.

There were no notes for any release. Completely empty. 4 releases and no notes. It was months not days.

Agreed. I would much rather have an update without notes, than to have to wait until notes are ready.
This was yet another thread, attempting to promote and thank, and has been turned into WOZ vs Stern.
Absolutely ridiculous yet again.

If release notes for 1.4 came out same day would they would mention the bug about the siderail LEDs not working in attract mode?

Only because the usual people can't let it go and have turn everything into a retarded pissing match like little kids who are jealous of their neighbor's toys. This has nothing to do with WOZ or Alex or anyone else. Stern needs to post release notes. Not months later. You want to thank them for finally doing what they were supposed to, knock yourself out. I'd rather keep holding them responsible for basic obligations to the people who are paying them thousands of dollars for their products.

This isn't a matter of "well I'd rather have the code then wait for notes!" You shouldn't have to wait. It's not a binary choice. It's basic practice, be it pinball or a freaking iOS app. Whatever, it's not worth beating this horse any longer.
