Quoted from zacaj:

That wasn't a question. If you get the bonus x that high it'll light extra ball. Which number flashes is adjustable in the settings

Haha.. no shit.. for some reason I never noticed .
I will scope it out..

#452 6 years ago

No one have an issue with any of the switch triggers behind the drop banks?

Quoted from trueno92:

You mean the trolls or the drops themselves?

#454 6 years ago

I think when the drops all fall, and they are all down. Supposed to raise the bonus?

Quoted from trueno92:

Once they've fallen they'll light the loop behind them for a limited time. While it's lit it'll increase the bonus X.

I will update you all once the machine arrives.

Really hoping this guy requires minimal needling.

Newest member of the club!!

Issues:

4th player display stopped working after moving the game...

Trouble shooting went like this:

Checked displays by visual exam,
No broken solder joints
No broken legs
No broken pcb
Checked pcb plug headers
Checked ribbon cable
Checked cable headers off power pcb, fuses, CPU pcb.

Swapped right to left display headers, result:
Right display plug top and bottom display on left side
Left display plug top lights on right side, bottom still out.

No faint dot on right lower display, in both cases.

Ideas?

Can anyone tell what the proper behavor is of the guard drop insert lights?

I guess they are to light in that left to right strobe pattern, and then they light if there is the only one standing?

Then they come on again after the drops are reset? Same pattern?

Is there a switch or continuity switches behind each of the drop targets that control the lights?

Once you hit any drop, they stop strobing until the targets reset. The drops have optos behind them to sense when they fall

Womp Womp! My wife sent me this pic today while my son was playing. Cannon load is stuck. I won't be able to diagnose until I get home. I'm assuming the first thing to check for is connections, any diodes, etc. Does anyone know the proper resistance value on those coils?
Thanks!

Check the switch and see if its actually dropping with the ball weighting on it. I read they occasionally come loose and get stuck on the side of the cut out.

Keep us updated!

#462 6 years ago

smitherssp this is really common. Most likely it's the diode on the switch - check both sides while you're at it.

#463 6 years ago

I came home and turns out the ball was literally just hung up in the load ramp. Wiggled the pin back and forth and boom, free as a bird. lol This is what I get for posting before even taking a look myself..

At least that was a freebie.

I has to resolder the header pins on my drop target insert boards.

Subbed leds and it looks good and works properly now!!

Has anyone gone with LED displays?

Anyone try green?

#466 6 years ago

I have the standard orange from Xpin in mine.

Looking good!! Pulled the trigger so green will be in effect, soon. U guys have good suggestions for flicker free leds?

#468 6 years ago

Oh I also got some other displays to solder in for my player 4. So now a fun project for the weekend so I can use either orange or green

Displays soldered in. Looking good.

Pics soon. Will look at coin taker. Not big on shipping costs.

I watch videos of players rolling this game rather easily... is it ever in tournaments?

If you traded it, what other system 11 is around d the same value?

Quoted from trueno92:

We've had mine in a few tournaments locally and I was the only person who could break 2mil. Not sure how people are rolling it, it's one of the most brutal sys11s I've seen. Just set it steep and get those slings hair-trigger

#473 6 years ago

Plenty of adjustments to make things harder or easier. No ball saves on start of ball etc. I haven't come that close to rolling it even set kinda at factory. I've been able to 3-6 mil often but I wouldn't go thinking that your play is sub par or those your watching are that good NOT unless you know all the settings that they are playing.

You have to set it up properly to make this game hard enough. The default is only 6 guards I believe to save the queen. I made it all 10. Why have those stand up targets there if you arent going to use them, right?

#475 6 years ago

Oooh, thanks for the feedback guys, nice to know the game is pretty scaleable. Right now I'm trying to get better at those trolls at the top of the game... as well as figure out what to use for alternate drop target decals.... mine didn't have any.

Also is there a gi bulb in the upper left corner under all those plastics? Under the playfield I see what looks to be a socket but its pretty inaccessible unless a left side teardown is on deck.

trueno92 here are some photos. There are 4 GI lights total under the plastics in the upper left. One you could get from the underside, the others only on a teardown.

Haha thanks much!! Looks like the one behind that upper left corner is ONLY accessible with a tear down which is what I forced myself into last night. I also turned around some of the lower bulb holders to aim at the center upper part of the pf. Results are very impressive and it really shows-off the ball mid-air!!

Additional benefit is the visibility of the yellow stand ups for the troll bonus.

Also polished the ramp plastics to improve visibility back therr but they really show too well in this picture but the illumination really helped.

trueno92 looks gorgeous

#480 6 years ago

I had BG thinking it would be an easy game for my non pin head friends to get. Lock the balls, start the multiball, kill the guards to sve the queen. Easy enough right? NO...not at all. Lotta short ball times and killing trolls in the upper pf. Oh well...I moved on. SOF lasted a little longer, but I always wanted a HH so I couldnt believe SOF was worth more. So the sale of SOF funded HH and I had spare cash left over. Still would like another System 11 some day, maybe another SOF or a lawlor game.....hmmmm

Thanks man, gonna check out that little led strip mod you did for the cannons. You are bang on in that those should stand out more.

Check out what's hiding behind the drops. Polished plastics look clearer in real life oddly..

I had an Earthshaker for a couple of years (on loan from a friend) and it was a real crowd pleaser. At a certain point i was finished with it personally, but i would get one again if the right deal came up. Taxi is outstanding and people love playing it - pinheads and non-pinheads alike.

Earthshaker...Ill consider it. Its got the AFTERSHOCK code too now, right? Taxi Ive played to death already, good call though.

#484 6 years ago

You guys with multiple machines, do you notice big guns a bit harder to nudge as its just heavier?

Had a couple episodes with the fanthom odd ball unlock, but trying to figure out if its the trough switches or the left canon... aside that, waiting for leds.

Has days of no issues and then I had the ball lock hunt 2x in 2 days.m

#485 6 years ago

Check the diodes on the ball lock switches if it’s not reliably registering. I regret moving on my big guns. It’ll be back some day

#486 6 years ago

I think the switches were too sensitive. I adjusted the levers and I Think Its better now after playing for 2 hrs straight, no issues.

Anyone notice there are 4 bulbs in the wall here at the top wall here on the right? I have only ever seen 2. So I'm going to check these tonight.

I don't think I'm a weakling but I find the newer stern machines so much easier to nudge... big guns is like planted...

Anyway, u guys think this would be worth more than a worn High speed ? Pop bumpers have an issue and the playfield has moderate wear.

U guys ever feel a fan-layout would be a nice complement to bg? I kinda want a nice fan layout game but finding an affordable one is Canada is impossible...

Anyone willing to ship?

Oh finally, what is that plastic trim that cramps onto the bottom of the backglass? Looks like mine is cracked where it could contact the side rails on fold... I imagine it's not too expensive to replace, right?

Newer Sterns come with leg protectors that offset the legs from the body, making judging easier.

Lift trim, I think Marco has it

#489 6 years ago

I just joined, what a fun game!
Some of my plastics are peeling up a little, like the printing is on the top of the plastic instead of the underside. Does this mean these are reproduction or were they originally like that? I attached a pic but it's hard to see...
Also, my switch 37 is missing the metal lever part. Marco doesn't list that one but it looks like the trough switch in my DESW. Is this the one I want?

Joined the club recently and can't wait to get mine shopped up and ready for play!

In the midst of shopping right now and I've hit a snag. I can't seem to get the big yellow post sleeves near the cannons replaced. Do the posts come apart? There are flanges on the post that seemingly make removing/replacing impossible. I only have one vise-grip and I think I'm going to need a second if in fact, these posts disassemble. Could someone please enlighten me?

They just get very hard and non-pliable with age. I would cut it length ways with a side cutter pliers or something. Careful not to ding up the metal with the cutter. The new one will go on fairly easy.

#492 6 years ago

Yep. Cut them off and new ones slide right on

#493 6 years ago

Put some dish soap in hole of the new one or on the post if you find its hard to put on. Makes it easier and once the soap dries its all good.

#494 6 years ago

Been really enjoying bg, when it plays great and is well.lit its awesome.

Added accent lights to mine and I'm wondering if its worth trading up for f14....
What do you guys rhink?

#495 6 years ago

I have a big guns and also an F14. There is no comparison in my opinion. F14 is by far the better game in every way.

#496 6 years ago

My first purchase was a Big Guns which was in late November of 2017. It had some issues I’ve been sorting through (got some help from a few pinsiders) on a few of those areas.
I’ve now fixed every problem socket in the game with Super Wash spray and scotch brite with the exception of the “You are invincible” 28 volt light which was removed as it never turns off. Other than that... it’s 100% now -which is saying a lot. Playfield teardown/cleaning is next.

So now that all the lights work, I totally understand the game better. Imagine playing with no bulbs in the L/R load cannons and non-functional LED’s in the multiplier ramps and center guard values.

This changes everything!! Like taking the difficulty level down to “medium” from “impossible”. Getting ready to load some high scores!

I just completed my first shop out last week. All new rubbers installed (even the hard to get at ones) and man does this game play different now. WOW! Hard as nails.
I also went from black to white, and red flipper rubbers which I think looks so much brighter and makes it pop. Complete lower playfield flipper rebuild and two new yellow bats (as we just cracked through the left original). My playfield glass plastic top trim was cracked (saw in another post here they had a bad one too) and I replaced it as well. All parts came from Marco and all worth the money! I have this game at about 98% and still enjoy playing and fixing it.

#499 6 years ago

Sorry, I only have photos of before I replaced the rubbers. Previous to this, I tore the playfield down just to clean the filth out. There was dried Novice on all the plastic posts and a heck of a lot of dirt build up. Also had a rubber missing and one installed wrong... looked like a mix of old/new/spare rubbers.
I’ll take some photos of the “after rubbers” tonight so you can see the difference. And I’ll pull the scratched up glass so you can see the results better.
