Quoted from Dragon:I love this scene here , now it feels like they can't be separated did you buy them both with the green display's?
I put the green displays in.
Quoted from Dragon:the greens are great , I also like the original orange .but i really enjoy seeing the little different things on all these machines and when you place a cheetah next to it it's amazing , i wish there were more cheetahs out there to match up next to big games
I have blue in my Harlem and EK.
Quoted from Dragon:both of these look super in that blue , maybe the power play in red ... or blue . oooh that skateball is very familiar , didn't it win a award in chicago a couple of years ago for best 1980's refurb ?
Yes it won best restore 2018

I like you apron card. Got any to sell?
I printed them off pinside.
my cheetah needed a full play field paint job. Big Game was not that bad.

Quoted from cottonm4:Did you do all of that touch up with just using a brush?
Yes I did. It turns out nice. Then I use 2 part auto clear.
Quoted from cottonm4:May I ask what type and brand of paint you are using? I have a Cheetah play field I might like restore.
How did you renew your lettering? Are you free handing the letters and numbers?
Paint is from hobby lobby .

I have them all level. I did one coat of clear then Eye dropper the inserts( they where not that bad. Then I sanded flat. Did 2 more coats of clear with sanding in between. The playfield is like glass.
Few pics with new plastics. New pop bumper skirts and body’s. New flipper bats and rebuilds. I am pretty happy with it. I need to find new drop targets. I bought the numbers to put on them but I think new ones would look best.

Plays really nice . Very happy with how it is playing. Getting my classics row all set up. Just need to install apron.

Got a big game amd it is missing. Thanks
Quoted from cottonm4:The bottom connector on J-3 is for the displays. Any Stern 7-digit display harness with Play 1 on the left and Player 2 on the right with Player 3 and 4 below will work.
Shawn at 3rd Coast Pinball makes them. But I think he has a fairly large back log of orders.
Thanks I will
Reach out to him. I am getting a free ball eight ball harness . Is anything on it worth using ?
Quoted from cottonm4:The wire. You will have the colored wires with stripes on. Save the wafer connectors. They do not go bad and someday you might need one.
EDIT: Eight ball is a 7 digit game. I am not saying it will work on a Stern but it would be worth a try. You might have to splice and lengthen some wires for repositioning of the credit display.
But a new one from Shawn will set you back $225.00. I'd try it out and see if it works before going to Plan B.
I can tell you this: The positioning on the displays means that the Bally harness will line up with all four displays on a Big Game. Also, both Bally and Sterns use the same rectifier boards.

Thanks so
Much
Got the new head harness . Put a new rectifier board, new MPU , new solenoid board. Re pinned other connectors on MPU. Will not boot. Tried old MPU and old solenoid board. . Lights on MPU don’t flash.

Thanks I will switch them

Switched the sound board cables. It now boots. All displays not working and all coils not work(except flippers, they work).
On first time turning on a puff a smoke came from solenoid board. Need to check fuses next. Thanks for the help with the sound cables.
Cleaned it up. Got the mylar and glue off.

It is a Bally Star Trek. I am working on Big Game now and will try the same led lights.
Here is before and after of my playfield. Now just need to put back together.

I think it must have been hand painted. Well done man
It was all Hand painted my an buddy. and then clear coated with auto clear.
Started putting big game back together.switched all the insert to led. Need to rebuild and put new pop skirts. Lot of cleaning and adjustments. I ordered all 4 flipper mecs.

I will polish them tomorrow. You right.
Quoted from cottonm4:Rather unusual position for a GI light.
[quoted image]
Is there not a bulb there usually?
I checked ribbon cables 3 times they are on right. Checked all fuses .
I can hear a slight hum from speaker also
Quoted from cottonm4:Ok. My Seawitch sat for several months and when I fired it back up I had lost some of the sounds. Not knowing what was up I swapped in another sound board and that fixed the problem. I still do not know what is going on with that board.
I see you have a Dragonfist. Swap in that board and see if things change.
10 minute job to swap two boards for trouble shooting
I
I will try my Dragonfist sound board. Is there after market sound boards available?
Quoted from play_pinball:You have all new boards except the sound board, which also appears to have its original capacitors still on there. Those old ribbon cables can get flakey too.
Just fwiw, Http://nvram.Weebly.com is the better choice for classic stern boards over Alltek. His MPU comes pre-programmed with optional Big Game modified code, free play, etc. and he makes repro SB-300’s too.
Do I just order the board for Bog GAme or is there different version to pick. I see he has dragonfist with some updated code also may need to try that.
Switched the sound board from my Dragonfist to Big game and it works. So weird worked before playfield restore. Game was not moved or anything. Will order a new board with cables tonight. Will just get the MPU also for added stuff. Thanks for all the help.
Quoted from roar:You could try a new cap kit for your board first? Cheaper option maybe?
I already ordered a weebly. I will fix the old one for a spare.
Quoted from cottonm4:How many hours do you think you would have spent chasing this problem if you had not swapped the boards.
I had a brand new lamp driver board i my Quicksilver build. All was working well. I turned the machine off and when I turned it on the next time, I has lost two feature lights. I'm like WTF.....
Sometime between turning it off and turning it back on 2 transistors/ SCRs had blown out. I replaced the 2 transistors and all has been well since.
There is a trouble shooting guide for the Stern sound boards but you really need to be an old school electronics repairman with all of the oscilloscopes etc. to figure it out.
For my blown Seawitch sound board, the time sink for trouble shooting a 40 year old board makes the new $100.00 replacement sound board look like gold. I'm sure glad Andrew is making these boards.
I spent about 2 hours already and would have spent at least another 2 hours messing around with the sound. I just never thought switch the sound board as it worked before I started the playfield. I have the 2x light not working also. Going to switch lamp board tonight. That lamp board is new altek . If it is not that then I will repin the connector. Right upper flipper is not right it flutters.
Quoted from slochar:break in the hold winding from vibration
What does this mean?
Going to order weebly board for big game and dragonfist there is a couple versions. What one is the best to use? Big game is close to done will sit next to dragon fist , now I need a quicksilver

IMG_7006 (resized).pngIMG_7007 (resized).pngQuoted from hisokajp:you could also have replaced the 2nd switch with those:
https://www.pinballlife.com/bally-secondary-end-of-stroke-switch-normally-open.html
I ordered them just now. Thanks
Quoted from cottonm4:So how are you liking the game play? Is it fast enough for you?
Love it. Hard time hitting the left outer spinner. Still needs a couple adjustments . Up next is a Stars restore.
Quoted from hisokajp:a bad MPU? any acid damage? I mean there is a diode on those sw so it could be something weird with the matrix too?
Has a altek MPU and all other boards are new
Not able to start a game. When I press the start button it reset right away. Will check switches today. It will boot and be in attract mode. It is only when I push start.
Quoted from djblouw:Yep I still make these.
I probably should do a better job at advertising all the parts I make for classic Stren (& Bally)
Set you a PM
Quoted from chuckwurt:But then you’d only have 3000-3500 and no big game.
Was trying to buy a JJP potc ,
I switched to a weebly board today as I am keeping the game. Do those settings look right ? Are people running v8 code ? I like the spinner counter . Hard to see the setting as the buttons are so small.
IMG_1080 (resized).jpegIMG_1081 (resized).jpegIMG_1082 (resized).jpegIMG_1083 (resized).jpegIMG_1084 (resized).jpegIMG_1085 (resized).jpegQuoted from slochar:Running v12 code....
https://tsqmadness.com/slochar/ZIP/
Is this on a weebly board?
Quoted from Coyote:Most of the pics there are the game_ option dips. (The ones that set the game's options.) The one horizontal one you took that reads 'GAME SELECTION' is where you select which ROM you wanna run. Sadly, it's completely out of focus, and I can't see what game you have selected.
AFAIK, v12 isn't on the Weebly board yet, since slochar just released it a few weeks ago. You'd need to burn an EPROM and plug it into the Weebly board.
Quoted from Coyote:Side request - if anyone can butn me a 512 ROM with v12 compatible with the Weebly board, it'd be appreciated. I'll cover costs - just send me a PM.
(At the moment, my Burner and eraser are all still in storage. )
I would pay for a set also.
