    Quoted from vid1900:

It will probably cost you more in ammo than the $25 savings.......

Russian ammo is cheap. Since you're a math person.....

It was more a comment on how much ammo you would need to shop in Detroit, not where to find cheap ammo.

I love the charcoal chimney. Works flawlessly. I use the Kingsford Competition, Hickory or Mesquite charcoals depending on what I'm cooking. The chimney gives me some use for those useless newspapers my mother buys.

You start your grill with newspaper?

    Quoted from Electrocute:

You start your grill with newspaper?

    Yep, you sure can.

Aldi has those "chimney starters" for $7 in the kichenware isle

    -

You can use a cotton ball soaked in alcohol, or just 30 seconds under a plain ol' heat gun that you use in the garage.

    #56 5 years ago

It's a big no no to use lighter fluid in the Big Green Egg unless you like the taste of it. Soaks into the ceramic and remains there. I'd never use alcohol or newspaper, just lump charcoal and a heat gun.

    #57 5 years ago

I hope no one is still using lighter fluid in 2018 to light their grills....

The Big Black Egg says not to use Gasoline either.

    #58 5 years ago

Why not use lighter fluid? The Acorn doesn’t have ceramics so it doesn’t retain the smell or flavor. I use charcoal liter in mine

    #59 5 years ago

I've always used a simple electric starter.

    #60 5 years ago

I use a few Burt's potato chips to light mine. I used to use the local Roy's potato chips from Sterling Heights, but they went out of business. Not to be confused with Uncle Ray's.

Burt's are the only ones I can find that are cooked in pure lard. Several Joules of energy packed in each chip. I always buy a few bags when my travels take me to Penna, New Jersey or Maryland.

Solid advice - I guess JP-5 also not recommended?

And, I intentionally did not Capitalize the first three letters of "confused" in case you were reading this thread.

vid1900 if you really go grab the extras i will take one and pick it up at expo.

    ^ you got it

    #66 5 years ago

Thanks just let me know. Greatly appreciated.

Expensive grills are best purchased used on CL. Most folks don't want to move a dirty ass grill and people move all the time.

a couple of my friends stopped at just about all of the known ALDI's in our area yesterday and found that quite of few of the stores had them in stock, however based on location, the prices varied between $99 to $179 (only one store was offering them @ $99

first things first, the box is HUGE, probably 2'-6" (h) x 2'-10" (w) x 2' (d). I managed to get 2 of them (for a friend and myself) into my explorer only after opening up the 2nd row console (so that it's the same height as the 2nd row bucket seats folded down. second, it's a rather heavy box weighing in @ 125 lbs, so bring a friend to load and unload it

    #69 5 years ago

did you guys put it together yet?

you don't want to use lighter fluid ever. you will taste that in your meat. it seems to not burn all the way out. newspapers work just fine in a chimney. I hit it on the top with a blowtorch and is up and burning in 5 mins.

    #70 5 years ago

I use Weber 7417 Lighter Cubes. They work great.

mike got his assembled last night. I was busy working on "other projects". I'll probably knock it out later today or this weekend

10mm socket on your screwgun or #3 Phillips bit and 20 minutes

Front leg is different, pay attention.

Wipe all interior surfaces (walls, roof, grates, drip pan, coal grate ) with Crisco and heat her up for a few hours to season.

    Quoted from vid1900:

For $10,000 I should not have to bend down to the floor to adjust the damper!
    That thing is crazy.[quoted image]

Dang, you could cook a man in that thing!

Yep, when we had to torch a car to remove evidence or create a scene, we always used a bag of chips for fuel.

The dogs don't detect any accelerant, so it does not attract any law enforcement attention.

I'm at the closest Aldi right now and the Manager called two others (including a ghetto one), there are no boxed units left around here, one display model that somebody has stolen the handle.

The manger of the ghetto Aldi says that Kmart has them, in store only, that scan @ $119 although the boxes say $399.

So if your Aldi are out, Kmart might be your last chance for a black egg in time for the weekend.

    #76 5 years ago
    Quoted from vid1900:

    I'm a math person.
My Big Green Egg, with the optional wheels, drip pan, side table, ect cost me $1200
My Big Black Egg, with all the same "included options" was $125
Both make exactly the same food.
So if the Black Egg lasts 5 years, and then I buy another, I'll hit the $1200 break-even point in only 48 years.

Not to mention that the 1000 dollars you save, and invest at just 3% ROR, over 48 years, you get a return of $4,132.25. You won't likely beat the CPI, but its money you didn't have before you started.

    Now your talkin!

I managed to grab Tsskinne the last one at an ALDI's near me. got my buddy to stop @ dunkin donuts on the way back too and got a "tractor tire" (he said that I was complaining about wanting a donut way too many times

    #80 5 years ago

The wife is scowering our area but nothing so far.

    #81 5 years ago

    ps
I was told by one of the employees that they "must" be sold by today. so today is probably the last chance that you have of finding one at an ALDI location

    #82 5 years ago

I wonder if they ship them back, as a pay per scan item, and the manufacture eats it or the distributor does. Some stuff stores don't own, they have a window in which to sell and what doesn't they send back to a middleman/wholesaler/manufacture or even trash out. Yes, some agreements force destruction on site in a compactor (usually non durable goods).

    #83 5 years ago

The newly opened Aldi's on Navajo Road in San Diego has none in stock.

Likely never got any, most grill stock came in Feb/March and was assembled by March/April ready for early buyers.

That is her stare off in the distance model look. She has been working on it for years. Thanks again for the pickup. Hoping to assemble the bad boy tonight and get the burn in done tomorrow and hopefully be cooking something Thursday evening.

Honey Tree Evil Eye died of kidney failure at the age of 10 in 1993. Apparently she was a party animal for light beer drinkers. The ultimate lie in advertising, crappy beer, and a girl dog in advertising for college males to associate with... Funny stuff.

It is important that adults of legal drinking age, never see a dog's penis.

Even though 50% of all dogs on earth, have penises.

That's how I season my meats.

Turkish rub, with cracked black pepper and coarse sea salt.

Put the steaks directly on the hot wood embers.

It does look awesome and perfectly cooked!
