The moment that I saw the sketch of the hobbit playfield it looked familiar.
Big Betty's Truck Stop (which was originally supposed to be a demon truck driver, neat story)
has a 4 flipper layout with strong similarities.

BBTS is a good layout on paper,
I've yet to play a nice once so I can't tell if it works on a nice one.
Most people haven't played the game but I can tell ya the 4 flipper layout
can setup many great multi-ball shots (just not on a late solid state game...)

Here is the photo showing similarities...

Ughhh, not seeing it. Sorry.

Each multi-ball shot with the 3rd and 4th flippers are very gratifying.
Shots from the bottom 2 flippers are long and help setup timing of shots to the top flippers.

So...
The unique flipper layout like Big Betty's Truck Stop
Troll pop up gimmick from Medieval Madess
Crazy amount of outlanes (very early solid state)
Cool center loop ramp
and whatever the heck a Smaug will do

Neat layout.

It's not a carbon copy, be the similarities are obvious.
We'll see when it comes out how they feel alike.

Well, at least its not another funhouse ripoff or fan layout like some other company has managed to churn out lately

My main knock against TH playfield design is on the 2d sketch it looked like a mash of some random early SS game(s) I have played a few times at shows (whose names escape me...).

Lots of flippers, lots of lanes at the bottom... but now with a DRAGON!

That being said, I am looking forward to it. I just thought it was interesting that people might be clamboring for a layout that they might have turned their nose up at if it did not have an LCD display and fancy LED's (in the same way that WoZ reminds me of an early SS game (particulary gottlieb) with the very separate playfield areas all distinctly doing their own thing, need for precision standup shots to do even basic things, no Gimme anything etc...).

Basically WoZ fancies up a model that people weren't generally clamboring for when it was the original deal and TH looks to keep that trend going. That's okay with me.

Who's wondering if the 3rd JJP game now just goes with a power fan layout due to the new investors?

Truck stop is a fun game but I don't think they are that similar

I thought it was a 4 Troll version of MM
