I have to go with Haunted House.

#2 3 years ago

Same, I'm restoring the backglass to my HH now and I absolutly love it. Thats my absolutte favorite.
But Barracora always gets me under some kind of spell when I look at it.

Sorcerer/Medusa/Centaur/Fathom/Paragon, anything from that era with gorgeous artwork that really sold the machine.

#4 3 years ago

Fathom. Every time I see it, I find something new.

#5 3 years ago

Nothing past 1983 is eligible BTW.........

Haha, denying yourself the glorious backglass that is Black Knight 2000. How could anyone think that is ugly?

Yup...pretty difficult to beat

Agreed. It's kind of a peaceful, tranquil looking game until you see the backglass. Those mermaids are straight up murdering that guy. But maybe he had bad intentions because he had a diving knife.

And then there's the lonely boat on the surface, likely floating long after he's dead.

Great stuff.

My first pin was Genie and I love that backglass.

#23 3 years ago

Capt. Fantastic and The Brown Dirt Cowboy

Hitler, Elton John, Man with afro getting a hand job, old lady, scene from The Who's Tommy... Stars added later to censor parts of the backglass. Hands down, the finest, perhaps most iconic bit of pinball art.

TZ - you can spend so much time admiring the attention to detail whilst playing name the episode.

Of course I'm biased, but I honestly do feel HH has the best BG... The interactive lightning bolts design, 3D imaging of the spirits and the glow of the house is stunning. Some mentioned above are close, but this is truly hard to beat.

I've always thought Starlight was nice.

Attack From Mars so far is my favorite.

Time Fantasy

Fathom for the win but Xenon, Space Invaders, and Haunted House are all really good also.

#30 3 years ago

Ok... Time fantasy, is that a space snail on mushrooms?

#31 3 years ago

This.

O-din, that one really is a winner. I'd love to own just the glass...has anyone ever done a repro? I know BGResto hasn't....

Classic arcades sells a pelxi one on e-bay. I'm not sure if the colors are right. It's kind of hit and miss dealing with those guys.

My buddy said he bought a different one and it didn't even look like the pics on e-bay.

Elvira and the party monsters!

Miss world has the best backglass ever. Hence why I own the game.

(Ignore the Virtual Pinball screenshot, I couldn't find a good picture, looks much better with the proper Gottlieb reels and lighting though.)

Has flashers behind the eyes which of course are screened off so only the circles light up. Cool little touch to an already awesome backglass. They shut off once the game is started and come back on once the game is over.

Although two player glasses are usually collector preferable since you can see more of the artwork, I actually prefer this one as the extra set of reels adds even more to the techy-ness of the backglass while being nicely incorporated into the artwork.

ALSO: The name "Magnotron" > "Duotron" times a billion, of course. It's so badass!

You beat me to the punch o-din.
As soon as I saw this thread I knew it had to have that Alice backglass in it.

What? Nonsense!

Scared Stiff for instance is one of my all times favs. Hand drawn, super cool 3D elements, and totally interactive? Yes please. I sold mine because I got tired of playing it, but never got tired of looking at it.

#41 3 years ago

Anything with mirroring is pretty pretty good

#42 3 years ago

It's gotta be Futura Spa. So much to like here. Mary and Phil (read their belt buckles) are jogging from the pleasure dome, a Jetson's like Space Spa. You have a dude with vein-bursting guns curling a beam of pure light. An exercise machine so effective, the maximum number of reps is 2 (I guess 3 and your biceps explode). You've got a porn-stashed dude bathing in a hot tub filled with bubbling water from a naked spa lady. All with a disco light show/prismatic effect never seen before or since through the backglass.

That artwork is pretty damn cool. Looks like it was ripped right out of the pages of Heavy Metal.

Let's be honest here... We all know two particular 3D elements are what made you like the glass!

#45 3 years ago

I'm a bit bias, but these are my two favs. Surely not for everybody.

Did you ever hunt down an original backglass? A rare kit indeed.

#48 3 years ago

Genie, star gazer, Sinbad

#49 3 years ago

The best backglasses of all time were any done by David "Mad Dog" Christensen. His favorite is "Mata Hari". I'm partial to "Nitro Groundshaker" and "Old Chicago".

Quoted from Playmatic:

no, but I was lucky enough that CPR did a repro on it. They actually didn't think anyone would ever buy it to go in a game. They made it because of the cool art.

this is exactly what I thought the first time I saw one like 8 years ago. I was like, I have to find this. I didn't know they were as rare as they were at the time. I thought there were 150 out there. Turned out that number was way off and it was more like 4.
