What would be your pick for the best three year stretch for Stern Pinball? I think my vote would be '12, '13, and '14. I wasn't originally thinking of the Stern Electronics machines, but since others have voted for them we might as well include those.

Are we talking gameplay or quality?

From who's perspective? Company profits or customer satisfaction?

I like the Stern machines but honestly they are just recently beginning to stop feeling like that Sega trash from the late 90s. So I’m going with the most recent ones. The competition from jjp has benefitted stern greatly in my modest opinion.

    2006 to 2008 POTC, Spider-Man, Shrek

Second for 79-81. Original games with original gameplay made for the players.

    Your perspective.

What are you shooting for in 81 that beats 78 Stars?

I like 78-80 so I can get both Stars and Seawitch in there.

    #15 1 year ago

    2013 for sure

    #16 1 year ago

I think 2012-2014 is the best stretch of having at least one home run per year.

    2012: AC/DC
    2013: Metallica
    2014: The Walking Dead

And for TWD haters, I'd swap it to 2011-2013 for Tron. I give TWD the slight edge because it's deeper and the pinball browser hacks with the actors' voices are excellent, but I love both games.

For me it the hardware. That SB300 sound board is just awesome and great leap above what the SB100 did(and bally before the squawker and talker). They didn't start using the SB300/MPU200 until Meteor in 1979

    2011-2013:

    TRON
    AC/DC
    Metallica
    Star Trek

Pretty hard lineup to beat there.

    #20 1 year ago

Although I'd love to include 2011 for TRON, it would have to be 2012 - 2014 for me.

    2012
    AC/DC
    X-Men

    2013
    Metallica
    Star Trek

    2014
    Mustang
    The Walking Dead
    Iron Man VE

    78 to 80
The Machines from 1981 are surely great, but they somehow lost the MAGIC of the earlier ones.

    #22 1 year ago

Wow, looking at the list of games it’s pretty tough to piece together a solid 3 year stretch with A list games in every year.

I’d have to go with either 1978-80 or 2012-2014 for sure.

Probably 2012-2014 takes it, but man, 1980 was the surely the single-year highwater mark.

    #23 1 year ago

2013-2017....I know it 4 years but with jjp and stern putting out some of the funnest pins to date.....

    #24 1 year ago

I wouldnt say 2012+ was their best years. Sure, the themes from that period were great and the games are fun, but the day they moved to pegs for service rails was the beginning of the decline in quality. IMO, 2003-2005/6 were the best years, highlighted by tspp and lotr, full featured and largely single model games.

No doubt the quality isn't there..unless it jjp....but half your collection 2013 and up...

    2012 - 2014 for the following games:
    - AC/DC
    - Metallica
    - Star Trek
    - The Walking Dead
    - Iron Man VE

True, but only IM has those stupid service pegs. The newer games are very entertaining, don’t get me wrong, but from a quality perspective, the mid 2000s were the best built, fullest featured, and best coded (initial) games.

That's actually what made me phrase it as three consecutive years. Choosing single years I could probably make a case for 1980, 2003, or 2013.

Still offered service rails on Premium and LE models.

80 was the best year by far . The tough choice is 79-81 or 80-82 . Need to get some time on Iron Maiden to know for sure .

    #33 1 year ago

Most of my favorites are Whitestars: own the below, and don't tire of them

    2003-2005

    T3
    LOTR
    RBION
    Sopranos
    Grand Prix

    Oh maybe Catacomb and Dragonfist.

And I agree with this. Stars is a great game....absolutely it is. I just tend to favor the SB300/MPU200 games also. To think what they were able to do with the SB300 with NO SOUND ROMs. And the artwork on Catacomb is killer!
