***Added a poll. I tried to pick games that were long enough after FP that companies could see what multi-ball could do and choose to use it. Flash Gorgon just seemed to be so popular I added it even though it came out 3 months after FP)***

I was doing a little thought experiment about some of the best games that do not have multi ball. It seems like Barry and Pyton had a few in there even after mutli-ball became popular:

Comet
Cyclone
Bad cats

Seems like Premiere/Gottlieb had a few in the mid-80's. Trying to figure out which was the last single ball game and some of the goodies. I'll keep looking, and add to the list as soon as I discover them, but shout them out if you know of any

Of course you have all your EM games (well MOST) BUT looking at SS games. And more so the ones that really stand out (I'll omit most of the games prior to Firepower since that is the game that popularized it in SS games. But I'm going to incluse a few I think are real winners, haha)

It's Eight Ball Deluxe. I'm not a huge multiball fan, many late 70s and early 80s Ballys are crazy good. Last single ball game was Whoa Nellie! Big Juicy Melons

Count-Down, Genie, Joker Poker

EBD, end of discussion!

Flash Gordon!

#8 6 years ago

Yeah I think EBD is pretty far up there.

I agree. I was just thinking how many games are GREAT and challenging without mutliball.

#12 6 years ago

I would agree with EBD or FG with flash Gordon being slightly in the lead.

#13 6 years ago

Paragon is another great one!

How about post fire power ((1980)

#22 6 years ago

Haunted house. Farfalla. EBD. Paragon.

#23 6 years ago

Flash Gordon is mine for sure, and I own EBD.

#24 6 years ago

Some of "the best" early solid state machines in my mind...

Pre-Firepower:
Sinbad, Joker Poker, Harlem globetrotters.

Post-Firepower:
EBD, Big Game, Mr Ms Pacman, Alien Poker, Laser Cue, Bad Cats, Cyclone, Victory, Devil Riders , Ali.

Later down the post: I also like Skateball, Mystic, and Medusa.

#25 6 years ago

No love for gorgar?

#26 6 years ago

Cyclone. Sinbad.

#29 6 years ago

Alien Poker

#30 6 years ago

Forgot that one... AP, Seawitch and EBD would be my picks. Wife has approved all three for purchase if we can find nice ones. =)

#31 6 years ago

I was super impressed with DragonFist at HAAG. Super impressed.

#32 6 years ago

Oh yes. Alien poker is crazy under rated.

#33 6 years ago

Bugs Bunny's Birthday Ball

A Python game, unique outlanes and 3rd flipper from reversed lower playfield.

Tigerlaw beat me to it.

Dragonfist is my #1 single ball game of all time. SS or EM.

LASER CUE is very good

I forgot about that one.

Laser Cue is a great game.

#40 6 years ago

Surf Champ, WNBJM, 2001 and Apollo 13 ( kidding )

#41 6 years ago

No doubt---Flash Gordon.

It really amazes me how affordable this game remains and how much of a value it is It has everything you could want on a game from this period, is fun as heck, and one of the most challenging games ever, and yet it's still a bargain.

#43 6 years ago

EBD (already mentioned though)
I also love me some Future Spa and Harlem Globetrotters.

Don't understand why Atlantis is in your poll - def way pre-FP. Flash Gordon all the way. As much as I love me some EBD, I would give Paragon the nod before EBD though Paragon came before FP.

#46 6 years ago

Laser Cue, Frontier, Mata Hari, Paragon

#47 6 years ago

There are hundreds of better single ball games made before any of those. And multiball has been around since the 50s.

#48 6 years ago

The winner is Bally ___ (I can't decide between all of them). If I had to pick, I'd say Skateball. I voted for Medusa as a close runner-up.

#49 6 years ago

Came here looking for one ball horse race games, leaving disappointed. Perhaps changing the title to reflect 'Best non-multiball early solid state games' or just 'best non-multiball solid state games'.

#50 6 years ago

Why is Atlantis even in the poll?

Gottlieb Atlantis EM is pre FP
Bally/Midway Atlantis has multiball.
