Pink Panther, I love the cartoon and never played or seen the pin

A local Houston collector, who I repair games for, just got one. my first time playing one will be Wednesday evening.

Aside from being rare and a fun game, it is unique because it is open-source. Print replacement parts. Change the game code. Change callouts, sound effects, and music. Don't like the dot animations on the DMD then make your own with an easy to use tool.

Also, it now has one of the best mods ever produced by @Medisinyl.

Yeah….problem is finding one for sale….but it’s not that rare. If you ask around enough you will find one. You will have better luck than me trying to find a Varkon.

It’s not very common but I have seen a couple over the years. It’s not a bad game. Kind of fun and affordable for someone just wanting an entry level game.

Damn….I would love to say challenge accepted but there are none listed anywhere.

I could cheat and offer my LE as everything is for sale “for the right price”…..not sure what that price would be for me. Be persistent and patient and I am sure you will find one.

Perhaps the thread should define 'rare'. It would make it a lot easier to pick a game. How many units is rare? To me it's less than 100. The most I can go to define rare is 300 and that's what I'd called slightly rare.

    #60 2 years ago

What a great deal ! Reasonably priced .

    Very rare in 2021

LOL, you just justified the rare thing. $15k for a pro? There is also one on ebay for $17k

How come the rare ems get no love?
I dig Double up, fun game great art,55 made.
Or how about Bali-hi? Another fun one with something like 65 made.
Gemini is cool too, as is TKO, King Rex all pretty rare.

    Quoted from oldbaby:

Are there less than 1000 P3 systems out there? I would guess so. There are probably less than 1000 Bride of Pinbot 2.0s too.
    JJP PotC 1000 units
Caribbean Cruise 337 units (cocktail pin)
    The Big Lebowski
    Alien
    ...

Given its limited production (to date), the quality of the game and its gameplay, I'd vote for The Big Lebowski.

Oh they do get love. There are collectors of EM games but in general those games don’t fetch huge money but there are exceptions. I think it is more because most are original/non licensed themes but the game play of most are not as flashy/fast as modern games. It doesn’t mean they are not fun but appreciated differently by collectors. And in the EM world there are some amazing non pinball games that are extremely rare and collectible.

If we do 100, this discussion would be non existent.

Just a so-so game. Not really rare (2,840 made). Early Gottlieb multi-ball game.

Ok cool just a random funny thought for me that came to mind

I agree with this. Very unique, but fun toys and shoots well. The Medisinyl mod set makes the game what it was meant to be. The ability to customize your game by changing code is also extremely unique and only 150 made.

Certainly Gemini and TKO fetch big bucks. I've never seen Double up or Bali-Hi come up for sale, my buddy has both as well as King Rex so I've been able to get some time on those. I held a NOS TKO playfield in my hands a few months ago, a true marvel!
I know about those rare non pin EM's! I'm looking for a Dune Buggy right now!

Blue Note/Rock Star - not the best EM player but decent enough...

I’ve noticed rare games sell for more than others. Lots of these games are not necessarily good. I wanted to know what people think is the best rare game ever that had less than 1000 total produced. Please let’s not count LE versions of games that were mass produced.

Io moon. Only about 50 made. Fun as shit and frustratingly hard.

Nowhere in the title or in the original post does it qualify that it has to be a pinball machine. So...

The last 3 of 4 EMs I went through I'd consider somewhat rare, especially the Fun House and U.S. version Hyde Park.
I'm sure the Balls-a-Poppin is the most known (which I'm presently having plastics made), but in my (and a couple
others opinion), the Fun House is the better player..

Better number might be 500~400. Several games fall in at around 400 or less.

Even if the topic wasn't limited to pinball, how many Ringers were built (or it's cousins Darts and Penny Pitch) to consider it rare?
I see a lot of Ringers. Darts however is a lot less common.

I lucked into a buying a very nice Bally Double Up (1971 - # 4 out of 55 made) a year ago but the game play was rather boring. Gladly traded it for an equally rare Bally Round Up (1971 - # 7 out of 70 made). Glad to see that Round Up sold for $ 4,500 but I wouldn't sell mine for that. Might trade it for a 1968 Bally Joker

    I really like Pistol Poker.
    Solar Fire is good too.
Goin’ Nuts was fun, but I wouldn’t call it the best rare game ever.

    #84 2 years ago

This gets my vote. One my all time favorite games, but I sometimes forget that it is somewhat rare also with only 550 produced.

    #85 2 years ago

    Mine are:

    LCD: JJP POTC
    DMD: Mystery Castle
    SS: Cyclopes
    EM: Rock Star

I can't find any info on production numbers, but there are only 4 other pinsiders who have one.

Spectrum is not a good game. I have a really nice one here if anyone want's to buy it.

Neither is Orbitor 1, quite rare but thread title says good game and it's not much fun after the first novelty, that's why i sold it.

I ahve a Rob zombie, and Alice Cooper, Spy Hunter, Hankin Orbit 1, Hankin Shark...all fairly rare and all good games.

Thank you - I stand by Spectrum and feel lucky to own one. It requires some practice to get the hang of it, but it has unique gameplay, a fascinating history and it’s Margaret Hudson’s masterpiece.

    #90 2 years ago

Certainly a beautiful game. I just don't enjoy playing it.

    #91 2 years ago

Spectrum is a fun novelty at first

    #92 2 years ago

If under 300 produced is the magic number, I guess that would make this a rare
    one of the rare ones..
I had the R.S. for Quite a few years, but just recently realized it was a sample
    game..

Totally agree. Spectrum is interesting but lacks long term fun factor. Orbiter 1 looks really interesting but is just boring to play. Nothing more than a novelty.

There's a great story behind that print. It's Donnie's Daughter.

Was just thinking i also have a Hobbit BA. 750 made at most, fantastic game.

    #99 2 years ago

    Alien, either one

    1 week later
    #100 2 years ago

Dragonfist is severely underrated. It deserves to share the spotlight with Star Gazer, Sea Witch, and Quicksilver.
Spirit is a blast to play but I can totally understand why it's not everyone's bag. Same thing with Hercules tbh.

My favourite rare EM is Balls-A-Poppin, which has a crazy multiball gimmick and is built into a bingo cabinet.

Andromeda has an awkward layout imho. But amazing sounds and art.

I love AMH and the open-source spirit.
In that vein, I really really want to try Captain Nemo. (16 made, right?) the code for that was also open-sourced.

of the newer games, Alien and Big Lebowski for me please, and I truly hope they become as common as AFM.
