I was thinking I'm missing having a game with a real back glass. They just light up brighter and look cooler than T-Lites, IMO. So, what pins under 5K have the best backglass coupled with the best gameplay? Feel free to link the game(s) of your choice.

I should have narrowed this down as was pointed out--I'm looking for pins towards the end of the backglass era.

There will be plenty of thoughts here.
But I like the classics for this category:

Flash Gordon
Embryon
Skateball
Fathom
Medusa
Seawitch

Any of the wholesome system 11 games. Taxi, EATPM, Whirlwind, Earthshaker, etc.

LOTR-SE - Just take the HD backglass out and put a translight in it.

Williams "Fan-Tas-Tic"

I have a WW trans-lite--did they also make a real back glass?

Fathom
High Speed
Taxi
Diner
Earthshaker
Flash Gordon

Most of these are translites. I did see a repro Taxi real glass at a show...it was pretty sweet.

My favorite real backglass game - Mata Hari.

I have real glass in the 4 system-11 games I named except Taxi. But yes you can get a real glass.

XMen, the second to last Stern with a real backglass.

Thanks, that is what I'm hoping to do--separate the T-Lite games form the real backglass pins--especially the more modern-playing pins. I figured many system 11's had T-lites--don't know which ones do not...

WAY TOO many to pick from...you've got (not counting EMs or earlier SS games) FIREPOWER through Space Shuttle (give or take a few here or there) in the Williams games, that's not even listing Bally, Stern, Zaccaria, or Gottlieb.....

I just figured out (right before you posted this) I'm being way too broad--you are right. More modern playing pins towards the end of the backglass era are probably what I'm looking for.

I'm pretty sure that Bad Cats, the game released just prior to Whirlwind, was the last Williams game to have a real backglass from the factory. Whirlwind & all subsequent games had translites.

CPR made one, but originally they were all translites for Whirlwind

Thanks, that really narrows things down. I'm going to have to go farther back than I thought...

Black Jack
Joker Poker
Harlem Globetrotters On Tour

We could do this all day. (Hi Phoebe)

Whoa, I didn't realize CPR later made Whirlwind backglasses. That's pretty cool. Here's some pics if you've never seen it:

I was not impressed when I saw one in person. Glad I kept my translite.

Sorcerer! Beautiful mirrored backglass and artwork. Typical System 9 gameplay. Not quite the feature set of System 11s, but the simple yet brutal gameplay keeps me coming back. It's my favorite game in my small collection.

Some of the CPR translight to backglass conversions mentioned here (EATPM for instance) don't look as good as the original translight. On the other hand, PPS' repro Sorcerer backglass is top-notch--better than my original. So, since your main draw is the backglass, no worries if you find one with backglass issues. PPS nailed it.

Yet the original has better artwork and gameplay (I've tried to like bk2k on a few occasions as it would be nice to have the pair, but I can't get it to click for me :/).
