What are the best pins with a big upper playfield?
I am talking about upper playfields like "black knight" or "flash gordon"
    Don't say "pinball circus"

    #3 7 years ago

Jungle lord, Black knight 2k has a huge one, Haunted house, Elektra, thats all I got.

    #4 7 years ago

IMO, BK2k's upper playfield is annoyingly big. Stick with standard BK, HH, SMB, something in that realm. Although, you said big, so BK2k takes the cake I guess...

Does WPT count, or is that upper playfield to small too qualify?

    Iron Maiden

Though it's not a TRUE upper playfield, Grand Lizard has a pretty excellent 'upper' playfield. Tons of fun to play.

Solar Fire, Haunted House, Royal Rumble.

    Pharaoh.

WPT counts I think. I was just about to say that while the game to me was a little boring, I really enjoyed shooting at the ace in the hole and that mini-playfield was always fun.

So I'm voting for WPT. How great would it have been if LOTR had some sort of mini playfield instead of TPOTD?

    #11 7 years ago

oh yea. Popeye is ridiculous. Then bk2k

    #12 7 years ago

black hole and haunted house, ACDC count? technically the upper play-field is "largest"

    #13 7 years ago

For me TSPP had a great upper playfield.

Indeed. Did the original design call for something more interactive similar to IJ's PoA?

I had an early Stern widebody, Split Second which had quite a nice upper playfield, even a bank of drop targets if I remember correctly.

    #17 7 years ago

NGG? Does that even count as an upper playfield considering there are no flippers on it?

    #19 7 years ago

I like the big upper playfield from BK2K

    #20 7 years ago

    Whitewater!

    #21 7 years ago

Pistol Poker gets my vote. That upper playfield is huge, and there's a ton going on up there. 4 different entrances/exits, 2 pop bumpers, 1 slingshot, 4 rollover lanes, ball lock, loop shot, 4 stand-up targets. It's a lot of fun.

I agree, big and you can see through it. My vote is NGG. BK2000 has a few spots where you are waiting for a long time for the ball to come from somewhere.

    Classic Stern Lightning

    #24 7 years ago

    TSPP and Black Knight

    #25 7 years ago

Well...that's a mini...but funnest part of the game!!

    #26 7 years ago

Does Banzai Run count as an upper playfield?

    #27 7 years ago
    Quoted from Spudgunman:

    black hole and haunted house,

Errr... Black Hole... Am I missing something on my version...??

Not sure what my favourite is, possibly HH... Banzai Run has to be the winner if best means biggest and most going on

Vector has a massive upper playfield area, but only a tiny space to play in... the rest are ball channels... seems like a massive waste of space on that one!

    Spirit...

Here's another... I'd say this has to be the winner if the criteria were widest entry ramp!!

In the interest of a kind of mini-quiz... anyone know this game? Matt?

I was just wondering when I saw CV, does NBAFB count?

    #29 7 years ago

Stern's Lightning, or Bally's Flash Gordon.

Big +1 on that my favorite upper playfield of all time.

+1. well, it has flippers and targets and shares the same ball(s) with the main P/F. Defiantly should count.

... but I cast a vote for Solar Fire and it's flash bank targets.

    #32 7 years ago

Well, I would not say it's the best upper PF

    it's big though

    features drops and Zippper flippers

    1981 Bally Medusa

pinballslave: looking at the bumpercaps it's a Playmatic..

best upper pf imo is whitewater. Pharaoh, HH are also a lot of fun.

WWFRR and TSPP are some of the most fun upper playfields!

    Classic Stern Lightning

I'm really liking this. Should have my restored one at Expo.

Man. The space station tower art thing on the pop bumper is freaking me the hell out. I'm all dizzy.

I knew I could rely on you Matt! If it wasn't for the awful backglass artwork it would definitely be on my wishlist!

I know exactly what you mean... simple but effective!
