Fellow Pinsider tamoore started an interesting thread about mode based pinball and non-mode based pinball longevity in his collection: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/realization-i-dont-care-for-mode-based-pin-games

Let's carry on the discussion with the following focus:

*****What is the BEST Non-Mode Based modern SS pinball, and why?*****

Taxi. Both the jackpot and the million shot are so exciting to get, and the fact that progress towards them resets between balls makes it that much more awesome when it happens.

What exactly do you mean by "modern"? Does it have to be an alpha-numeric or DMD game to qualify?

Non-EM games.....late 70s early 80s and up. Can be alpha or DMD.

In that case, I nominate Paragon.

Pin*Bot is up there. Quite deep without modes to get to the SUN.

Taxi is definitely a great one. The resetting between balls is awesome.

I am gonna toss out Terminator 2 as a strong contender

Haven't played too many of these yet, but gonna throw out Space Shuttle: trying to get that spinner to 7K (or heck even 5K or 6K) value is tough, but watching the points fly when it happens is oh so gratifying! It doesn't help that you chance a rocketfire direct drain from the pops with every shot through there, so you gotta make them (and your USA lane changes) count. Keeps you on your toes!
