I'm looking for advice/opinions on how to deal with 2 defects(?) on my ToM playfield, about an inch in front of the flipper posts. I have 2 quarter-sized spots where there appears to be no clearcoat, and the paint has lifted/rippled/wrinkled. I have no idea how long it's been this way, you can't really see it unless you side-light the areas with a flashlight. I stumbled on the problem when I was cleaning the playfield and happened to run my fingers over the area. I'm not sure the best way to deal with this, but I have the following options so far:

a) Ignore it and play-on!
b) Slap a mylar patch on it
c) Pull the playfield and send it in for professional repair
d) Try some form of localized area clear coat

So thought I'd check and see if there are other ideas out there. Also curious if anyone recognizes this, and what might have caused this, or whether this might have been this way since day one.

Thanks for any feedback.

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/vids-guide-to-ultimate-playfield-restoration would be a good place to ask. I can tell you that you can't spot clear, it will chip away. I'm guessing mylar would be best to protect it. What do you use when cleaning it? It kind of looks like planking but that pattern looks strange.

For cleaning I use a microfiber towel and just wipe it down, and for more stubborn dirt I add Novus 2. Then carnuba wax if it feels like it needs it, or where I used Novus.

Thought it was weird that the 2 bad spots are in the same spot on either side of the playfield . . . mirrored, tho the right side pictured is the slightly worse side.

That is really strange looking.
Looks like wrinkles in an overlay due to damage underneath.
Is it possible there is an overlay or decal on there?

Water Damage?

Don't see any type of overlay or cover, patch, etc.

Don't see any sign of water damage, top or bottom of the playfield. No staining on the bottom side wood like I would expect to see, or discoloration of coil paper wrappers, etc.
