All of my back boxes have Comet frosted SMD. Some colors look better in warm white, some in bright white. They are very inexpensive too - like $7.20 for a pack of 25.

Second for comet single and frosted. Spotting may depend how light/dark tanslight is. I mixed colors on my Getaway and like the results. Colors pop, not too bright, and light spread is even.

Tried these recently for the first time and like how they look in my Maverick backbox and the cost is very inexpensive, especially for a 25 pack. They also sell 100 packs, but I don't have enough machines for that. Would buy if I did.

I have Cointaker cool white frosted in all of my early solid state games and they don't spot and look great, as well as cut down on heat in the backbox. I also noticed that they help bring out some details and color that I hadn't noticed before. I also changed the GI to these to help with heat issues. I recently (around Christmas) ordered 500 so I could swap all of them took me a couple weeks but I managed to get them all done.

500 just for the backbox, dang! I bet that looked pretty sweet though after they were all complete.

Pretty much any 5050 single SMD frosted will work great. With colors like purple, pink, orange and yellow you can get away with brighter super(no cap) bulbs. The brighter colors like cool white usually need caps otherwise it gets that halo/spot effect.

Cointaker frosted whites mostly and colored superbrights to highlight certain areas depending on the game.

Guys, resurrecting this thread as I am about to buy some Comet LED's for my backbox, but pricing is way different ($18 for 25 bulbs). This thread is only a few months old, wondering if anyone knows any more here? A coupon code? Just don't want to pay triple what you guys paid a few short months ago.

The guys talking about $7 for 25 bulbs are referring to cheaper bulbs like ramjet linked. The 1 smd bulbs are brighter and that's is what I recommend. Maybe 2 smd but not sure if they will spot. I used 1 smd frosted on my Getaway and no spotting.

Thanks guys. I'm going to buy. I'm new to LED-ing the back box. Do you recommend warm white or regular?

I've tried many different LEDs in the backbox, and believe or not, these are actually the best (they do not hotspot and actually disperse the light well):

I don't replace all the incandescents with these because it would be too bright. Just enough to brighten things up and enhance the colors. I mostly use warm and cool whites where appropriate.

Depends on the theme of the game and the artwork.
