I love how Five Guys has all the wall hangings saying stuff like "Voted Baltimore's best burger" etc. They had one that said "The best $5.00 burger there is". I got the manager and walked him to the sign. I told him I'd like to try the "Best $5.00 hamburger" where is it on the menu? He started with the old errr, ummmm, hmmm, Then he suggested the "Little Hamburger" on the menu. I asked why doesn't the wall hanging say "the Best $5.00 Little hamburger"? He had no answer.....

There burgers are good but they go down like a brick. Fries taste great but they are not for those on a diet. I recall a large has like 1600 calories.

The first Detroit area location in Sterling Heights is still open after over 30 years. Not local to your home, but not far from some tournaments you participate in. There's one near Lawrence Tech as well.

Believe it or not, In-N-Out sometimes closes a location.
In June of this year, this one was because it it was actually too busy. Drive-Thru traffic was backing up into the streets after clogging up the strip mall parking lot. A new restaurant was built down the road with a better traffic pattern. Note that the Trademarked crossed palm trees are removed when the store is shut down.

Ate a brand new one a couple of weeks ago.

A Smash Burger has sauce smashed into the raw meat patty. Some of their burgers intentionally leave it out. You can request it not be in any burger there that normally has the sauce smashed in.

There is one in the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno. Formerly known as Bally's Reno, the Reno Hilton and the MGM Grand-Reno.

They do a good business. The name is a curiousity. Is the burger smashed thin or something? I gotta stop in and see. It looks normal. It tastes good. I guess I'll go back....

So just order one of the many burgers there without Smash sauce. They offer customized burgers. You choose the "unsmashed" burger patty.

In Packerfan's absence from this thread, I would be remiss if I did not mention Kroll's with two Green Bay and one downtown Chicago locations. A Greta, high-quality custom burger. Grilled over Kingsford charcoal with a toasted bun.

He suggested I try it which I did with my son. We're sold on it.

The "Rat Burgers" at Tel-Way in Detroit are pretty tasty too. Won't win any awards and your car may get broken into even if doing a carry-out.

Ate at the one on Ford Road last week!

I used to travel to Texas for my old job a few times a year. Tried Whataburger for lunch and thought it was awful. Gave it another try a few years later and said never again. Since I was on an expense account I just settled for Steak Houses for dinner and BBQ, Chick-fil-a, Or, since 2010, In-N-Out for lunch in the Metroplex and San Antonio.

Or, Braum's for lunch but there burgers are just so-so. I go for the Ice cream sundaes. The best in the Southern Midwest.

They were founded in California around 1920. There's over 1100 US locations. I actually ate at the Dearborn, Michigan location today that, when opened around 1984, was the prototype "modern, non-Drive-In restaurant". It had the Root Beer processing plant in front in a glass enclosed room. After leaving there, I drove past two other locations on the way home. Not limited in the US by any means.

That said, the Canadian A&W is a totally separate company from the US one and has almost a thousand locations. They were spun-off in the early '70's. Look close at the logo of the Canadian and US restaurants. They are different. In fact, the US operations scrapped the Mama, Teen and Baby Burger names from the menu in the late '80's. We still have the Papa Burger though.

We had a couple of them with that design in the late '60's-early '70's. Then the went with the basic box buildings before shutting down. Burger Chef & Jeff...

I remember counting them up in the '60's and early '70's from 5 to 6 was the first I remember. We wondered how "10" would fit on the new, smaller sign on a pole at the one we went to.

Been there. Pretty good. Used to make runs to Lima as it was home to the closest Waffle House twenty years ago. Then one opened in Bowling Green and eventually several were opened in Toledo so I can be at one in a half-hour.

Yes, on the West side of I-75.

Habit Burger out in the Southwest is really good. Better than In n Out. But costlier and they close early.
