Not sure that helps. The smashing is the problem. Basically their name ruined the burger. Like the opposite of a good burger. Literally

They do a good business. The name is a curiousity. Is the burger smashed thin or something? I gotta stop in and see. It looks normal. It tastes good. I guess I'll go back....

That is a tasty burger.

I can't get em myself because my girlfriend is a vegetarian (so that basically means I'm a vegetarian. )

But I do love the taste of a good burger.

They smash it so it cooks fast. Squeezes all the juicy goodness out. Quite horrid

They are awful and cost about as much as 5 guys. Smashburgers fries are good though.

So just order one of the many burgers there without Smash sauce. They offer customized burgers. You choose the "unsmashed" burger patty.

While I find dairy queen burgers dry they had a mushroom swiss 1/4 pounder recently on the menu that was quite tasty. The mushrooms were in a gravy/jus and melted the cheese. Actually sloppy.

In Packerfan's absence from this thread, I would be remiss if I did not mention Kroll's with two Green Bay and one downtown Chicago locations. A Greta, high-quality custom burger. Grilled over Kingsford charcoal with a toasted bun.

He suggested I try it which I did with my son. We're sold on it.

The only problem with 5 guys is they build their burgers upside down.

Lettuce and tomato belong under the meat, knuckleheads.

Not the best, but a Sourdough Jack can hit the spot.

How the hell is McDonald's ahead of Carls Jr aka Hardee's?!

Because MickyDs makes it's quarter pounder with fresh beef cooked fresh when you order it.

Carls Jr. uses a dry jerky burger patty that might have been cooked hours before. At one time Carls used fresh beef, but not since the 70s.

Good Times burgers are pretty good. Had to stop there on way home from work after reading this thread all day lol.

I remember once when jack Danger mentioned it I did a quick Google search for location near me and one was in Chicago and one NYC.

At Pup N Taco we deep fried our burger patties, and the chili cheeseburger was really good. We made our chili in house from scratch.

Fries are the infamous but now extinct Frispos that Carls Jr. used to have till sometime in the 80s. Potato pellets mixed with water and then squeezed through a clear cylinder and then the cutter. Golden brown and crispy on the outside, and near a firm mashed potato texture on the inside. Very good.

I used to like Jack in the Box burgers, but they went away from the sesame seed buns to those awful what ever kind of buns the have now. I rarely eat there anymore, and usually don't get burgers there. I mean, they ruined the Jumbo Jack of all things! Same goes for the Ultimate Cheeseburger.

As far as chains go I like 5 guys mostly because of the fries. Culvers is good too. But we have a local place called Kopps that I prefer over both, and their frozen custard is amazing!

I have been a lot of places and never seen or been to 5 guys. It is in the lead. In and out second, we don’t have one. We just got our first Sonic in the state open a couple weeks ago.

I ate two of their tacos today and they really hit the spot.

They do the same pop up strategy every few years down here as well.

It's so they don't lose their trademark rights in that country.

Much like Australia, I doubt they will have a permanent bricks and mortar anytime soon.

Right, so the burger starts as a ball and then they heat it up a lil bit and then smash it down as hard as possible squeezing all the life outta it. What your left with is a thin, dry, burger that’s caramelized on the outside and A well done interior

I have to agree Good Times smokes the competition. All natural beef(antibiotic-free) and cheese makes a huge difference, and one of the only burger chains that does not upset my stomach. If you are ever in Colorado try a West Coast Double with Wild Fries-and then drop the mic. Smash Burger/Five Guys/IN N OUT are swag compared to Good Times.

I had some Jack in the Box tacos on pin picking trip a couple of weeks ago. I hadn’t had these in at least 12 years. They were really good.

Don’t see all the love for 5 Guys. Tastes pretty good going in, but it leaves you in about 17 minutes.

Like Bobby Flays crunch burgers, good but very temporary

I like a fried egg and potato chips on my burger.

Shake Shack for sure. Not enough people have tried it. And they make real frozen custard. Get a concrete (basically a milk shake without the milk). Shakes are great also. Not crazy about their cringle cut fries, I'm a shoe string guy. I worked for the founder, Danny Meyer at his first restaurant Union Square Cafe. Was hired before they opened

The town I live in won’t allow franchised fast food places to open up here.
We do have a Dairy Queen but it’s grandfathered in since it’s been here since the 60s.

This is the place in town we usually go for burgers. Pretty darn good burgers.

F'ing salty as hell, and I'm talking about their meat, not my attitude. Overpriced too.

None of the options are really good . I chose 5 guys because of these bad options I would choose to eat a burger from them before any of the others on the list .

If Red Robbin was an option I would have chose that.

Your choices are basically “The best crap in a bag” hamburger chain.

Ours in Florida absolutely suck. I always here how good they are in NY but something is wrong that they can’t duplicate the success up north.

Polly's Pie Palace

Polly’s Pies is a bakery restaurant that makes great burgers. Their primary business is making pies inside a restaurant. It was a popular business model in Southern California and their competitors were Marie Callender’s, Hof’s Hut and a few small mom and pops.

Growing up they didn’t have fries, but served really great baked beans instead. They didn’t serve fries because they didn’t want the grease from a fryer to contaminate all the pies that they make. Later someone invented a fryer that didn’t spread so much grease and Polly’s started offering fries.

At Thanksgiving and Christmas Polly’s takes preorders for pies and the bakers will make hundreds of pies overnight for their customers. Nothing tops a nice holiday meal like a fresh baked pie that was made in the last 24 hours

How far into Cave Creek is Big Earls? Put it in relation to, say, Brian’s Black Mountain BBQ or the Roastery of Cave Creek? I hit CC two or three times a year and I don’t believe I’ve ever seen it. Next time I’m in town I’ll hit it up.

A&W is big here in Canada. I know they have limited US operations. The main thing with their burger is the seasoning. I love the taste, but it must have some MSG in it because I'm always dehydrated after having a Baby Burger.

Really? There's one about 3 miles from my house in Dallas.... it's a shared split with a Long John Silvers, but they've been around here for as long as I can remember. A bit scarce these days, but hanging on with LJS.

The name probably implies that the burger is so good you’ll want to smash it in your pie hole. They are tasty, I’ll give them that. Their “smash sauce” is good (do they smash that too?) and different than your typical “secret sauce”. Although the secret sauce at All-American Burger is pretty righteous.
