AFM and MM did this well back in the day. You knew when you destroyed the castle. You felt the thunderous boom with satisfaction when taking down a UFO. Those choreographed moments make you feel good.

I feel like this is a crucial component that's understated in a lot of games today. Thus my question:

Which games of say the last decade, do the best job of rewarding you with sights and sounds when you accomplish something big?

(Admittedly, I'm shopping for my next pin, and while this isn't the main thing I'm looking for in a game, it could quite possibly be the little nuance that pushes me to one game over another.)

Melting the witch in WOZ is one of the most awesome displays I’ve experienced. The flippers go dead, the whole playfield turns green and slowly retracts to where the witch is as she sinks back down into the playfield, all the time crying “I’m melting. I’m melting.” Then you get the wonderful “Ding! Dong! The wicked witch is dead!” And that leads into a crazy victory lap mode with all five balls. No better feeling in the world.

Wow, that sounds frickin' amazing. I heard the level of difficulty to get there is pretty high, yeah?

When I played it regularly, I would get to battle the witch a couple of times a month, and I would defeat her a few times a year. It is definitely doable, not impossible. But doesn’t happen so often that the thrill wears off. IMO, the perfect balance.

Not from the last decade, but the TOTAN extra ball fanfare is my favorite. Plus, the display animation is great - trumpeters on the ramparts scrolling down to a tiger in a mihrab with a giant pinball in his mouth.

Blackwater multiball is pretty incredible especially on the Premium/LE in game of thrones. The start, the jackpots and the super jackpot are all amazing. Callouts too.

Jjp knows how to do fanfare / moments in the game . For me the best I've seen is when you kill Smaug in The Hobbit .

Killing Smaug on Hobbit is the best I've experienced so far, when the hair on the back of your neck raises you know it's a unique one. Gappa Angry is pretty sweet as well.

Agreed, Blackwater multiball on the premium gave me goosebumps. I regret selling that game.

I need to revisit this game. I don’t think I gave it enough of a chance before. What happens when you defeat Smaug?

Especially if you aren't aware of it, as I wasn't, the first time I destroyed the ring on LoTR, I was flabbergasted not knowing what was going on. It's great: every mech in the game joins in on the celebration!

Don't want to spoil it but if you watch end of this video you can see it. Helps to have a sub hooked up and your volume up to 11 .

Another one that stood out to me, not because of how amazing it is, but because you get a literal fanfare when you earn an extra ball on Black Knight. It also reminded me of the fanfare in many Intellivision games, has a nostalgic feel.

Also, when you max out bonus, the physical bell on BK starts ringing like crazy on further bonus collection. Really fun!

Banzai Run when defeating King of the Hill and completing victory laps.

I always Enjoyed the chase lighting affects in mousin around fanfare....

The fanfare for a super jackpot in Demoman is very subtle but it awesome.

    Also.

    JACK FUCKING POT!!

There's a lot of good examples mentioned here. I'll add Two Towers Multiball in LOTR as some the best fanfare in pinball as you progress through the mode. Those custom Gimli jackpots callouts, especially the ones with the laughs are amazing.

Reaching Monster Multiball in Scared Stiff and Gappa Angry Multiball in Elvira's House of Horrors results in a pretty awesome moment.

If you like the theme you can't go wrong .
Best bang for your buck . There is so much to shoot for and the rules have so much depth . If the game is set up steep it does not play slow and floaty . It has more VUK's diverter's , magnets and subways than you can poke a stick at . It's one of the most loaded pins and has the best ever movie assets integrated .

You can’t beat that gottlieb special / wow knock !!

LOTR destroying the ring is a pretty awesome feeling. I also agree with the witch and smaug.

High Roller Casino "Super Duper Mega Extreme Jackpot!" .

    Thank you, Mr. Keefer.

Not a great game but when you open the ark for the first time Stern Indiana Jones it is definitely an o shit moment!!

    #25 3 years ago

It’s pretty basic compared to modern games, but the buzzer on Taxi is fantastic and unique!

    #26 3 years ago

Nothing, but nothing, beats Rudy's scream!!

Vacation Jackpot is definitely one of the best! Also love Knight's Ransom and Lost in the Zone's intro sequences and the music that follows. Mary Shelley's Frankenstein also has a pretty great jackpot sequence. Awesome sound effect followed by one of my favorite music tracks in pinball.

Oh, and I can't forget the Twilight Zone jackpot sequence!
