What do you think are the very best examples of EMs where some real artistic effort was put into the art on the cabinet and sides of the backbox? Art that ties into the art on the backglass and playfield for extra points.

Please post a pic if you can - thanks!

Balky Wizard is the best IMHo. Capt Fantastic is an honorable mention.

Just 21 is one of my favorites, even thought the cab art has no correlation to the theme of the game.

Always been fond of BLY Star Jet

    pasted_image (resized).png

BLY tried themed based CAB art almost from the start of their re-intro into the Pinball MFG field in early 60s
Took GTB and WMS years later to finally make it the norm.
Though it seems that in the 50s woodrail era both GTB&WMS seemed to at times
be bold and creative with themed based CAB art,
but by late 50s & early 60s they stuck to pretty much geometric designs

Wlms Four Corners: They did several like this, where the head and body come together to make one image...not great pics on IPDB of it, but you can get the idea...

This was also the first game to come to my mind

I stumbled across this: Universal Photo Finish (1949)

Seems to me like side art has wavered back and forth between very elaborate and almost non-existent at different times.

Yeah, but why a rainbow trout on "Neptune"/"Hit the Deck"/"Poseidon"?

1950 Universal 'Winner'. Similar to 'Photo Finish'.
