Foreigner was headlining when I saw them in 1977 at a hockey arena in northern NY. Graham sounded great and Mick Jones had some great solos, especially on "I Need You".

I saw U2 at the Meadowlands on the War tour. People kept rushing the stage. Bono didn't help security at all as he had to hug everyone who made it to the stage. The concert itself was great.

Looks like somebody went and semi remastered the Led Zepellin concert I saw in 1977. It may not have been the best concert I ever saw, but it was the first.
If you've got almost 3 1/2 hours to kill, then here it is.
Let's just be thankful pinball would never be so desperate to dig ancient bands like this out and theme pinball machines after them. 
Listening to that Zepellin concert now, it actually sounds better then when I was there. The acoustics at the LA forum leave a lot to be desired. Amazing technology these days.

Oh yeah. Our Forum concerts were delayed several months because of Plant's throat operation which ended up being the difference between me seeing them and not.
Forum holds about 18,000 and Zep played 7 sold out shows there in summer of 77. That may still be a record of some kind.
My daughter informed me this is the best concert she ever saw, and I believe her!
Dream Theater at MSG after Train of Thought came out. They played over four hours with orchestra. Like nothing I have seen before or since.
Gotta love those prices on that Zep ticket stub.
$10.95 + $.55 tax= $11.50 . I think mine was $10.00 lol.
Now you get some antique bands on reunion tours charging well over $100.

Biggest crowd I was ever a part of was Cal Jam 2 at the Ontario Motor Speedway at near half a million people. It wasn't condemned, but you know developers found better use for the land than some silly race track. lol. Lot of great races there though.

Agreed. The Floyd concert was in 87 if I remember correctly. It was built in 1926 and demolished in 1992.

I would beg to differ! That guy was fucked as soon as he decided to go to the show and be anywhere near the front of the stage.
Yeah, but also using motorcycles to escort the band to the stage and just leaving them parked there may not have been the best idea in the first place.

Cool thread. You guys brought back lots of great memories, that I didn't know I could remember. Some of the memories are because of great performances. Other memories are just because I had a great time with friends.
I've seen many of the artists listed by folks in this thread. I've seen Neil Diamond 3 times that I remember, including a Christmas(!!!) concert. I've seen Metallica a bunch of times. I've seen the Dead on acid. I saw Weird Al in 2016, and also 31 years before that, in 1985. My tastes run the gamut. I've seen DRI to the Cowboy Junkies.
The concert I remember as being a great performance?
The Cure was amazing in 2016. Unbelievable. I had never seen them before. I'm not a die hard Cure fan either, I just like numerous songs. It's simply unreal how great they were. I had no idea they were performing until a day or two before the show (like 3 minutes from our house). Luckily I grabbed some pricey last-minute tickets for my wife and myself. So glad I did.
The most fun I ever had at a concert?
Beastie Boys, 1992, at the Col Ballroom in Davenport Iowa. L7 opened (House of Pain was a no-show). It was their Check Your Head tour. I had just graduated high school and was heading off to college a few days later. It was "the perfect ending" to my high school years. It ought to be illegal to have that much fun. I guess it is kinda illegal, but you know what I mean. I almost traded my ticket for a car (a cool 60's convertible). I am so glad that I didn't trade that ticket.

That's kind of what I've been up against. A lot of those shows we went in a condition where we weren't supposed to remember. And some were more than 40 years ago, so it's hard to remember them all.
But I'm going to make a quick list of some of the more significant ones for me that I do remember.

Cal Jam 2 1978- huge crowd, lots of bands
Rolling Stones, Outlaws, Peter Tosh- Anaheim Stadium 1978- Mick Jagger- "I want all your shoes!" And he got em!
Black Sabbath, Ramones 1978- Long Beach Arena- Never was there a more interesting double bill. Ozzy's last tour, Ramones Rocket to Russia
Social Distortion 1979- some garage in a back alley- Because I set it up and made it happen and we are now the punk rock capitol of the world! Steve Soto RIP
Judas Priest 1979- Starwood club LA. Hell Bent tour and best damn metal concert I ever went to
Devo 1980- Raincross Square, Riverside- The whole point of this thread to begin with.
GNR 1987- First concert back in LA after the release of Appetite for Destruction
Suicidal Tendencies, Pantera, Exodus 1990- Irvine University Bren Center- nuff said.

I was at the first concert you mentioned...Led Zepellen. Awesome. Saw the Stones at the Wiltern Theatre which was really cool. And most of the Jethro Tull show, which proved we are too old to rock and roll if we have to drive too far.

Truthfully it got freezing cold up in those Hollywood hills and neither of us beach bums came dressed for the occasion. And that mountain of cars waiting to clog up the roads made it even more tempting to sneak out a little early, plain and simple. But it was good to get out of the house for a while.

There's no footage yet, but some bootlegs of the '87 homecoming shows at Perkin's in Pasadena have been surfacing. These turned out to be landmark shows in the career of the band. I went the first night and TSOL opened.
As far as Aerosmith, the entire Cal Jam 2 concert was filmed but kind of hard to watch.
Tales from Topographic Oceans - all four sides in New Haven Ct. Only one of 2 concerts to play all 4 sides. Yes was my musical mentors. Years later (2004) I toured with Jon Anderson displaying and creating his visuals on a floating screen. I toured with my favorite singer since high school. Amazing experience. However, Michael Hedges may have topped all of that with just he and his acoustic guitar. I saw Michael live many times. Oh and then there was RUSH...
1977 concert at Anaheim Stadium. Lynyrd Skynyrd , Ted Nugent, Foreigner, REO Speedwagon and a band called Rex. Looks like Rex didn’t make it. One of the last shows for Lynyrd Skynyrd. Several of the members died shortly after. I was 15. Still remember the show all these years later.

Rex made it alright. And really set the tone for the day. You might have been late to the show. He had a tight heavy rock and roll band that got the place fired up but later traded it in for a more pop oriented solo career using his full name Rex Smith.
REO came out next and being it was their pre hit days, they also tore up the place.
Foreigner really stood out with a fine performance and great vocals by Lou Grahm playing most or maybe all of just the only album they had, which turned out to be their best. Star Rider was a real highlite.
Nuge was next supporting recently released Cat Scratch Fever with the original band intact, three albums in and in top form, and not much else really needs to be said about that.
Skynyrd put in an epic set on the Street Survivors tour with Ronnie Van Zandt stalking the stage, and when they broke into Free Bird 50,000 lighters illuminated and by the time the song was done it looked like the upper levels of Angel Stadium might collapse as it was bouncing up and down from people jumping on it.
Then there was the Who / Clash concert at the LA Coliseum where my car got jacked and we found ourselves walking in LA. Concert was great tho.

Prices are crazy these days, my Led Zep tics were $7.50 in '75...............just bought 2 tickets for wifes birthday to see Joe Bonamassa ....$377.89
Although I also picked up 2 tickets for the Jeff Beck, Paul Rogers and Ann Wilson show at Palm Beach Amphitheatre for $40. Super deal.

Maybe he did. Maybe not. But the Hell's Angels were not exactly known for being civil rights activists.They could have been better described as a bunch of racist mother fkers. He was a black man in the wrong place at the wrong time. With the wrong people hired as security.
Eric Burden could sing about "3 days of understanding, grooving with one another" and Woodstock would be 3 days of peace and love, Wavy Gravy, and "all these fucking helicopters" but we were going through some rough stuff in the 60s.
Altamont was 1969. The country was being ripped by racial strife, an unpopular war in Viet Nam, there were the riots in Detroit. And the Democratic National Convention in Chicago was all over the news. There were the 3 civil rights workers that were murdered in Mississippi. The issue of school bussing was ripping the country apart. And Viet Nam was stoking it all.
In 1967, the movie Hells Angels on Wheels made its debut in 1967. They were being written about in Life, Look, and other rags at the time. Everybody was fascinated with them with their WW II German war helmets, and the Iron Crosses they wore as they sat astride their Harleys. It was not long before you could walk into any 5 and dime store in the country and find cheap (made in Japan) Iron Crosses to slap on your body. Everybody was wearing this cheap dime store stuff in Jr. high school. One day, a very popular, very good looking girl, wore a real Iron Cross to school on a choker chain; It was a war souvenir her dad brought home from the war. We were a bunch of dumb kids in the midwest and all of the wild shit was happening elsewhere. But the general knowledge was that you didn't F with the Hell's Angels.
