So which cereal had the best toy or prize inside?

I remember a little sub that would go up and down. (Tub toy)

And some super cool spy toy inside trix. Although I hated that cereal it was one of the best prizes to a 7 year old. The Abbott and Costello records were always cool.

OMG....I remember that sub toy....!!!....Thank you so much for bringing that memory back...our poor kids don't know what they missed.....but I bet there is a sub toy app...!!!................Joey

    #156 4 years ago

That sub was pretty cool...just add baking soda and submerge.

Another fun one was a boat with a balloon on top you blow up and watch it go. Probably the one I played with the most though was those stupid little tops that turn over and spin on their posts.

Many years ago, my Aunt worked at the local Kelloggs plant.
They had a toy that they deemed "too dangerous" for little kits so she brought us a garbage sack full of them. The toy was a small, hard plastic airplane with a rubber band launcher. That sucker flew fast and far... and when you got hit - it hurt!

What? No love for Alpha Bits? It was better than that lettered soup.

For me it would be the rubber band powered, plane launching aircraft carrier that came in a box of Chex.

    Quisp
    AlphaBits
    Trix
    Wheaties
    Rice Chex
    Raisin Bran
    Cheerios

    were my favorites.

Still eat them all (except Quisp), but the sugared ones are now an occasional treat. Used to like Captn Crunch, but can't eat it any more - just way too sweet.

    #167 4 years ago

I do love some Capn Crunch, but it's like eating a bowl of gravel if you don't let it soak in milk for a while.

    Loved that sub!

Such great memories of getting toys that were actually cool out of cereal and Crackerjack boxes (and cool trading cards out of bags of Wonder Bread).

Now you barely get a cheap sticker or temporary tattoo.

    #172 4 years ago

If I have to eat cereal, corn flakes or Special K.

    #173 4 years ago

Had some sugar smacks and later noticed that my pee smelled exactly like sugar smacks!
    Gross but kinda funny

    #174 4 years ago

I have an unopened "NOS" box of pacman cereal. The contents have turned to dust from the sound of it when I shake the box.

I like shredded wheat with a ton of brown sugar.

Team cereal was great, but has been discontinued for some time now. My favorite is Harvest Crunch.

O-man o-din, I remember the aircraft carrier! That had to be one of the more enticing prizes they put in cereal back then. I also remember that the pictures on the box were way larger than the actual prize. Times were different when a kid would get excited about a cheap piece of plastic and eat a box of cereal he doesn't like to get it.

Great thread - always nice to remember things that made you feel good as a kid.

My favorite cereal now seems to be whatever my wife finds on sale. So, now I'm eating cereal I don't like without getting a prize - and paying for it to boot

    #183 4 years ago

Any toy that could be used as a weapon was worth eating a box of cereal for. But Chex really wasn't all that bad.

My favorite cereal over the last few years is Crispix. Kinda like Chex, but better.

    Nintendo... Its a cereal wow!

I still remember seeing this commercial and then going. MOM MOM MOM!!!

Maybe not the best cereal ever, but if it's good enough for Superman, then it's good enough for us.
And, no kryptonite in it either.

I like a lot of the cereals mentioned, but not for breakfast - for snacks.

    Breakfast must include bacon.

Without a doubt...Nutri-grain...it's Iron Man food...I love it.

In fact it's 10.30pm here and I'm going to have a bowl right now...yummy.

Late arrival, and I think you guys have picked off my favorites. Cap'n Crunch - no crunch berries, Quisp, King Vitaman, Count Chocula, and Freakies. Still pissed at my mom, giving away boxes of old toys that included my Freakies collection...And yes, I went over to eBay to see how much Freakies merchandise was available, and there's a ton.

    #196 2 years ago

    Quisp!

Peanut butter Cap'n Crunch, Frankenberry, All Berries Cap'n Crunch

    #199 2 years ago

Nobody doing hot cereal? Old fashion oat flakes good to fill you up.

I can't stand sugar cereals, I think the only one I ate as a kid was Honey Comb. Is that Canadian? I can't remember if that's available here.

These days, for cold cereal, I always mix 2 non-sweetened cereal. Currently, I go with Mini-Shredded Wheat & Bran + Cheerios. Good combo...
