I have a 58 hour round trip flight coming up. I would love to hear suggestions for shows I should binge watch. I am specifically looking for shows that have hour long episodes preferably 3-6 seasons. (Shows I have enjoyed :Breaking Bad, GOT, Dexter, Westworld, etc)

    What do you recommend?

    #2 3 years ago

I really enjoyed The Expanse, which just came out with season 5.

    #3 3 years ago

Better Call Saul and if you have extra time 2 great seasons of Warrior on HBO Max

    #4 3 years ago

    Snowfall

    4 seasons.

    #5 3 years ago

    If you like subtitles:

Two German shows, best I’ve seen for a while. Both on Netflix.

    Dark

    Babylon Berlin.

My tip - never watch any of the Netflix European shows with the English overdubs. Sooooooo bad.

    Subtitles or nothing.

Or you could just meditate on Pinball for 58 hrs...........nope I think you have the right idea with binging.
Maybe a tutorial on LOTR and how to get to Valinor.

My pain that you’ve done it knows no end!! Enjoy the flight Frodo.

    -Vikings. Good stuff.
    -Deadwood. Ian McShane. enough said.
    Justified. Walter Goggins. fantastic actor.
    -Bosch. Titus Welliver is awesome.
-The Killing. Joel Kinneman and Mireille Enos are a good pairing. Shes married to Cameron from Ferris Bueller in real life.
    -Homeland. Mandy Patinkin fan.
-Seal Team. CBS. I normally steer clear from military shows because they're a joke but I really enjoy the use of multiple military advisors on set. Tyler Grey(Army Ranger) who plays Trent is a producer and heavy advisor on the show. There's too much family drama crap rolled in but the military aspect is pretty decently done.

    Have a safe trip.

    #10 3 years ago

Deadwood, 3 seasons plus a movie.

    #11 3 years ago

Lists like this always should have The Wire #1

    *Walton

    These are both great recommendations

    #13 3 years ago

Speaking of Walton Goggins - The Shield also an all time classic with one of the best final episode payoffs ever.

    #14 3 years ago

Banchee , older series but action packed , lots of twists and turns

    #15 3 years ago

Had never watched Battlestar Galatica from the 2000's and my daughter and I are watching it now. It is tremendous!

    #16 3 years ago

This doesn’t fit your criteria but I just finished 3 x 1.5hr documentary series by national geographic called The 90’s the last great decade. I really enjoyed it, although I turned 21 in 1999 so it was a big hit of nostalgia for me.

    #17 3 years ago

I can watch a marathon of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

    #18 3 years ago

Animal Kingdom - best show ive ever watched in this style, 4 seasons so far. If you like sex, drugs, money, and suspense this is the show to watch.

Ozark - runner up to Animal Kingdom, twists and turns that are great!

    #19 3 years ago

Patriot. Only had two seasons on Amazon Prime, but is one of the best dark comedies ever created.

This is also a great watch, I just told my wife yesterday I needed a couple 'Cool Rick' tracksuits.

    Peeky Blinders on Netflix

    #23 3 years ago

    Gunsmoke

    #24 3 years ago

    Supernatural or Sopranos.

    #25 3 years ago

I just finished breaking bad. Incredible series.

Then if you have time, follow that up with “better call Saul.” I honestly think it’s a better show than breaking bad, but you have to watch breaking bad to fully get all the nuance in it.

    #26 3 years ago

Peaky Blinders. 5 seasons that are 6 episodes each. Perfect binge watch series.

    #27 3 years ago

    I am getting into

    Snowpearcer

Last Kingdom is a great story based on the Bernard Cornwell books

    #28 3 years ago

    Snowpearcer.
    The Wire (hbo max)

Not the best but they are easily watchable 1 hour shows and time flies:
    Chuck (Amazon Prime)
    Friday Night Lights

    #29 3 years ago

Given your list ones that come to mind are

    - Bosch
    - The Expanse

I think those were already mentioned so another I like but might not fit what you want:
    - Discovery (the season featuring Capt Pike was the best but the others are good too)

Snowpiercer and Chuck are great suggestions as well.

quick thread detour because I saw your location.
How do you like living in Cranberry Township? It's on the very short list if we move to Pittsburgh for area, traffic and taxes.
I'm still trying to convince the person possibly making the trip in to downtown daily to think about north Washington County cause it seems you get more for your housing dollar.
Can you tell me a distinct difference between the 2? Crime, etc... I've heard traffic from the south is real bad congestion.
Why Cranberry over say Lawrence, Thompsonville, or McMurray?
Thanks for any info you're willing to share.

    Back to the shows.
How about the Alienist. Old timey Crime Drama stuff.

Band of Brothers (HBO) (WW2 Drama about 101st... best miniseries ever in my opinion)
The Expanse (Amazon Prime) (Sci Fi with excellent world building)
The Orville (HULU) (re-imagined Star Trek rip off made by Family Guy Writers... spiritual successor to ST:TNG)
Star Trek Discovery / Picard (Paramount +) (Sci Fi with great special effects and original storylines)
Chernobyl (HBO) (Great period drama and very educational)
The Sopranos (HBO) (Great gangster drama)
Planet Earth (Netflix) (Awesome nature documentary)
John Adams (HBO) (Great period drama)
Better Call Saul/ El Camino (Netflix) (Breaking Bad Spinoffs)
The Crown (Netflix) Life of Queen Elizabeth
Downton Abbey (Amazon) Death of the British Aristocracy

Was Red Shoe Diaries an hour long?

I usually only made it through 3 minutes or so, then I was done.

    #38 3 years ago

    Based on your like list:
    Better Call Saul
    Ozark
    Sneaky Pete
Expanse is an excellent space sci-fi

    Safe travels!

    Buffy the vampire slayer.

Or is your feeling up to it Supernatural. 15 freaking seasons. You'll barely put a dent in it but it's an awesome show with a terrific universe.

Both are great. I almost gave up on Animal Kingdom after the first episode. I told my wife we're just watching Point Break!

Lots of good ones mentioned already but another is 30 Coins on HBO. It's a Spanish show so it's subtitled. It was really great though, I hope there's a second season.

If you like kung foo or bruce lee, the show on HBO Warrior (2 seasons) was pretty damn good. Just finished it the other night. There are naked people though, in case you don't want other eyes on your screen.

Several years ago I was in the dentist chair for hours having root canal, extraction, crown, etc. done. Enjoyed “The men who built America” while on nitrous oxide. Wasn’t that bad of a day!

I love The British Baking Show. There are lots of seasons on Netflix. It's like an escape from reality. Everyone on that show is so f'n nice to each other.

    OZ

    Bodyguard ... Netflix ... 6 1-hour episodes

    Night manager ... hbo I think ... 6 1-hour episodes

Fortitude ...Amazon prime season 1 .. 8 1-hour episodes ... self contained story
    Ditto for season 2

    Sneaky Pete season 1 ... self contained story ... 10 1-hour episodes

    #47 3 years ago

Penny Dreadful was pretty good. It’s a little weird, but definitely enjoyable.

    #48 3 years ago

The Magicians - 5 seasons. Basically, a more adult oriented Harry Potter-like show with some interesting world building, character arcs, quests, and sprinkled with some humor. The first few episodes set the stage, and then it's off to the races. There is one brief scene that's a little intense, though. The writing doesn't quite reach the level of Breaking Bad, Dexter, Westworld, etc, but is still entertaining. And it doesn't end on a massive cliffhanger, but there could have easily been more added to the story. Runtime is almost 48 hours. Currently on netflix.

    #49 3 years ago

    1. Peaky Blinders
    2. Ozark
    3. Better Call Saul

Wind down with Sneaky Pete if there’s time

    What do you recommend?

I recently binge watched the entire series 4 seasons of Black Sails. I really enjoyed it. It was like GOT with Pirates, but with many actual Pirates from history and more grounded in reality that sets up the book Treasure Island. It's a Jerry Bruckheimer production that is done very well with the production quality of a feature film. Like GOT early on some parts are basically porn, but as it goes on it gets better and better. Lots of action, story lines to follow, intricate characters that evolve and more. I'm glad I watched it after it was finished so I could binge the whole thing and not wait for new episodes.
