Not all pinball machines have an antagonist, but I think it ads a lot to the games that do. I think of an antagonist first of all as a character, not just an object like a black hole or the ocean. This character works against you, the player, and sometimes even revels in your failure.

Some antagonists taunt the player like Yagov on F-14, The Sorcerer on Sorcerer, and The Pharaoh. Some have re-appeared in sequels like The Black Knight, The T-rex in Data East and Stern's JP, and the Martians in Attack and Revenge. The earliest antagonist I can think of is 1972's Fireball, but I'm sure there were earlier ones I'm not familiar with.

My top three are:
1. Sparky - MET
2. The Genie - TOTAN
3. Rudy - Funhouse

So, What are your top 3 pinball antagonists?

#3 3 years ago

My vote is for me. In my youth I loved trash talking my high school buddies and telling them how bad they sucked.

#4 3 years ago

My #1 is The Power in TZ.

#5 3 years ago

1. Black Knight (BKSOR)

#6 3 years ago

1. Rick Sanchez
2. Black Knight
3. Rudy

Thought about it for a few minutes now and would have to vote for Medieval madness. Just all around great taunts from several different characters.

"I'm Lord Howard Hurtz, who the f*ck are you?"

#8 3 years ago

I'm unfamiliar. What machine is this?

#10 3 years ago

For those whom sell games here and RGP . The price police . ; )

The knight in BKSOR has some pretty good one liners and can trash talk you when you are already getting beat on by the game. Keeps me coming back for more punishment

Mr. Big from Heist

Rick - Rick & Morty

Captain Spaulding

I know it is not what you meant, but clearly the #1 antagonist in pinball is Kaneda!

#17 3 years ago

I like how the Beast in Iron Maiden turned out, voice-acting wise. Solid variety of nasty and threatening lines.

Grown men that think shit from their childhood is still cool and relevant today.

#19 3 years ago

Ah, yes. Haven't played that one... yet.

Terrific voice acting in that game.

#21 3 years ago

Rudy
Black Knight
Cyclone carnival barker

Rick Sanchez

Quoted from zombywoof:

Captain Spaulding

Indeed. Calls you Chicken Fuc*er, among other things. Lol

#24 3 years ago

In my opinion, no one taunts like the Black Knight.

#25 3 years ago

Family Guy. Stewie, Brian and death all talk a lot of shit.

#26 3 years ago

Steve Ritchie - AC/DC

#27 3 years ago

GorGar to some extent...

I forgot about The Iron Maiden Beast. Might just beat Rudy for my #3 spot.

Also, not sure if it counts, but The Power in TZ always gets me, taunting me with its laughter, "Bwaahahaha"

#29 3 years ago

1. Black Knight.
b. Rudy.
iii. Genie, Tales of the Arabian Nights.

Agreed!

Absolutely. Someday I'll get to number of the beast and put him in his place.

#32 3 years ago

Yeah, Black Knight doesn't even talk when you drain, he just laughs in your face, hard to beat that one.

#33 3 years ago
Quoted from frenchmarky:

His laugh in Big Guns is down right hurtful after you drain.

#34 3 years ago

The Sorcerer voice is pretty good.
"You are done, mortal!"

Odin’s TMNT wounds won’t seem to heal

#36 3 years ago
Quoted from A_Bord:

My #1 is The Power in TZ.

I was going to mention Pat Lawlor when he hands you 10 points in odd change for making a piano shot

TZ still one of my favorite games though.

#37 3 years ago

The King of Payne is my favorite.

#38 3 years ago

The OG antagonist - Gorgar

#39 3 years ago

Rick and Morty. Especially if you dare tilt the game. Lol

#40 3 years ago

Rudy is by far the best.

#41 3 years ago

Dracula in BSD has some good Antagonistic lines.

"You think you can destroy me with your idols?" (start Rats)
"Your puny efforts amuse me." (fail Rats)
"Hahahahaaa" (end multiball)

Tote bags.

#43 3 years ago
Quoted from Initiative:

1. Black Knight (BKSOR)

Nothing else comes close!

(Starts game)
You? Hahaha
Step right up Mr badass
Come At me bro

Other callouts
Loooooser
You suck
Play better

#44 3 years ago
Quoted from Stones:

Nothing else comes close!

and how about

'you play like a little baby boo bi booo bi boo'

never gets old and i feel so insulted every time, rightfully so

#45 3 years ago

No fear ghost

"When does the actual fighting start?"
"Surprise!" (when the shield bash sends the ball screaming back towards the flippers)
And my personal favorite, when I was (as usual) a bit too slow on a MagnaSave: "A swing and a miss!"

#47 3 years ago

I loved my time with BK3 but the call outs suck. It makes what should be a God Of War style game into a jokey ridiculous mess. I had to attenuate those call outs 100%.

#48 3 years ago

The only one I can think to add right now is the sopranos. What’s he say in attract mode? Something “where my fucken money” I don’t know the game well. All I know is one time at an auction it kept yelling at everyone

#49 3 years ago

You big sausage.
Get yourself a hotdawg.
Quit playing with the clock.
What did I ever do to you.
I thought we were pals.

#1 is Rudy hands down. That's just a handful of his comments that make me miss funhouse so much. My wife would curse at him and flip him off. It was great!

#50 3 years ago

Ritchie telling you to PLAY BETTER in acdc is always worth a chuckle.
