Woke: "alert to injustice in society, ..... stay angry, and stay woke"

You decide who is Angry and has focused Attention on small Social issues, blown out of proportion to the point of State, Federal Action and words, as well as Media Focus.

Its all about the clicks, and your eyes. The Metrics of what you spend your time reading/viewing is money.

    #102 2 years ago

"Will....its Chris....I have a great idea....at the awards next week we are going to stage a little fight between us.....its going to do great for the ratings because we care so much about them.....only issue is you are going to take a cheap shot and use your open hand like a girl and slap me...you ok with this?"

    Quoted from OLDPINGUY:

Woke: "alert to injustice in society, ..... stay angry, and stay woke"
You decide who is Angry and has focused Attention on small Social issues, blown out of proportion...

So to clarify: there is no definitive list of "things that are woke," nor is there any metric by which to measure what constitutes a "small social issue" other than one own's subjective experience?

    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Ok so I'm trying to see if I got it all straight:
-Oscars are woke, and woke is bad so nobody likes Oscars anymore and ratings are bad
-woke is bad and everybody hates woke, therefore the woke Oscars are desperate
-they staged this slap to help reverse the spiraling ratings, even though that makes absolutely zero fucking sense since the Oscars have happened already and ratings can't be affected. Like, wouldn't it have made more sense to have Smith slap Rock a week ago, and then spend the week hyping up the fact that they'll both be there so the ratings would be better? Also, slapping people in the face isn't very woke, so doesn't that run contrary to previous assertions of wokeness, which we've been told is both why the Oscars exist and also why the ratings are bad? If they are going to sacrifice being woke for ratings, why not just stop being woke - outlaw all wokeness - and watch the ratings once again rise to unwoke 1974 levels?
-the slap conspiracy won't matter anyway because the Oscars are woke and nobody will ever watch them again regardless of these stunts. Also, people are way too smart these days to fall for such bush league publicity stunts - we may have reached the peak of human intelligence in 2022!!
    -woke is bad
-if Will Smith were white and/or Alec Baldwin, people would be calling him racist
-the government hides UFOs, perhaps using both wokeness and the Oscars as cover
Did I get that all right? It's kind of hard to get it all straight since it's all so goddamn dumb.

Don't forget add the random picture of a dead alligator....

What is the definition of this? I have never been able to figure it out.

Not always easy to quantify, but you know it when you see it.

What is "Woke" is defined by people. How it is used to Create media noise, can be manipulated.
Both sides, practice "Wokeness" on specific issues, IMO.

It varies over time, too. Being "Woke" on the "right for women to vote" or "not vote", had its History among media and society, but not any more.

Wokeness over a Belly Button showing on "I Dream of Genie", is a fun one.

Yep, before the Brady Bunch ever married couple slept in separate twin beds (I know there was an earlier couple but this is one everyone remembers).

Here is what you missed with Barbara...

I was snoring my way through the oscars when my son woke me to see Chris Rock get bitch slapped by the fresh Prince.
So I reckon I was Woke but fell back to sleep as the show really isnt entertaining to me.

Interesting. So saying "fuck the woke Oscars" has no meaning without context? How does a man slapping another man translate, then, to "woke?"

    Clearly I am lost

    Quoted from GPS:

Mutual admiration society. Have no need!
Where else does a profession get together and throw a big party for themselves to congratulate what a great job they did and then have it televised live? Certainly not in my line of work and probably not in others.
A bunch of clowns being clowns. Sorry for the dis to clowns!

Many business groups hold conferences where they 'throw a big party for themselves to congratulate what a great job they did', and usually they give out awards, but since it's not usually celebrity's, no one will pay to show it on tv, although these days you can probably watch quite a few of them on some stream or another. If you have been to an annual chamber of commerce dinner, or an industry group conference, you have probably seen something like 'small business person of the year' or 'best technical innovation' award given out. Not at all uncommon.

I do agree with your general point though, and I've no interest in watching any of that crap.

Will Smith is one of those guys who's insanely rich and famous... And yet you would not trade places with him if you had the chance... Even before the show on Sunday. It's kind of sad seeing him age while trying to be the same hip guy he was like 30 years ago, with all this personal drama behind the scenes. Last thing I saw him in was Aladdin as the genie, and it was pretty cringe.

Yeah, shipping is probably thru the roof. Plus security guards too. Ammo is likely crazy expensive.

He’s still a good actor and was fairly likable up until this incident.
He’s got a wife and mother in law that are taking him down like a boat anchor.

You are conflating the act itself with the underlying motivation the act was done for in the first place.

The slap was little more than theatrics and the swearing to convince a primarily conservative Middle America of its supposed sincerity.

A reminder these "one percenters" are actors/performers whose livelihoods are determined by their own salience.

You've got it all wrong. They were going to waste $42 million "panning for nuggets of gold" but they hit the jackpot with the Will Smith "mother load" bitch slap, or do I mean "GI Jane" mother load....... no matter, I digress.

That $42 million they were throwing away is now worth triple that original investment. Well done academy!

    ^This.

So the act of slapping was an effort to drive the middle class toward concepts that the 1% themselves believe in -- hence the "woke" act of slapping : it was a calculated effort to further control the thoughts of the conservative middle class. Makes sense, and it actually reminds me of another "woke" act that took place in nineteen ninety eight when the undertaker threw mankind off hell in a cell and plummeted sixteen feet through an announcer's table.

    #125 2 years ago

Well the entertainment conspiracy of the century worked!!!

Ratings up over 50 percent this year!

All hail the magnificent Oscars, and their brilliant plan to dupe the woke-hating public into watching their show that nobody likes!

Chris Rock ticket sales are booming.

And Will Smith has also benefited massively from this brilliantly staged event. How I can't exactly for the life of me say but I'm sure Alex Jones will tell me within a few weeks.

You just cant stop the illuminati. May as well give up.

    #126 2 years ago

Gives a whole new meaning to "slap save"

By the way, it has been over 24 hours and I haven't seen anyone suggest a 'Will Smith slapping Chris rock' pinball machine. You guys are really falling down on the job

    #127 2 years ago

So why does Chris Rock get a pass on all this….you guys are not WOKE as you say…what he said was insensitive and not the right place for that kind of a joke. In this day and age people take bullying and shaming seriously and that joke was just exactly that. Go make that kind of joke about a co-worker in a meeting for others to hear and see how quick you are called to HR.

All this shit about free speech is fine but there is a time and place….if he is doing his show and that’s the kind of jokes you expect to hear then it’s appropriate in that setting.

Now the slapping thing was dumb…Will Smith should have kept his cool and maybe made a public statement of what a hurtful and insensitive joke that was…

And we see worse fights at pro sports events and many times nothing happens…a guy gets slapped and everyone wants to make a big deal about. Just ridiculous.

And nobody is talking about the winner movie "Coda". For me one of the best and funniest movies in a long time!

    Quoted from RyanStl:

    Hmm, never heard of it.

Three Oscars for "Coda"! Everybody is talking about Will Smith and Rock. The more important thing that happened that night was that a very small movie, with very good actors and an important message won the most important oscar against big block buster movies.
    Best Picture: "CODA"
Best Supporting Actor: Troy Kotsur in "CODA"
Best Adapted Screenplay: Siân Heder for "CODA"

The joke was completely fine. Will Smith even chuckled at first until she did the eye roll. She posted on Instagram about a week ago that she is ok with with her condition/shaving her head and doesn't care what other people say.

So the people who were offended by the joke were woke.

Chris doesn't even need to sue. He was the bigger man and handled it like an adult. His tour is selling out and he is gonna have material for this for years to come.

Forever into the future, every time Will's Oscar is mentioned (whether he gets to keep it or not), it will be overshadowed by "the slap." He will have to constantly defend and apologize for his actions. He will regret the slap for the rest of his life even if he doesn't get sued.

Good point...I didn't think of his personal long term repercussions. makes me want to watch the other winners and looking forward to Coda. I don't sense he's bad dude just overwhelmed with life

    Cuck is always gonna cuck.

    Oh man, you said it.
Slick Willie *sticks up* for his wife? Has she earned it? Does she need defending? Was she ever in any real danger?
Will Smith showed exactly what he is really made of, and it isn't much. Mr Shining Light ruined his own night by allowing himself to be triggered by a bald joke due to his f'ed up relationship with his wife.
If you support his behavior then you are saying anyone who is offended by a comedian doing his/her job on stage can, and should be, assaulted. This is cancel culture taken to the next stage.
I dread what is to come.
