In this topic: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/your-top-9-2500-dmds
we worked together to put together a top-27 of 90’s DMDs in excellent condition in the same price range ($2200-$2800).

Round 1: This select group of 27 faced off into 3 groups, and the WINNER from each group made it to the final round.
Round 2: The remaining 18 faced off, and we have 3 new WINNERS. It's now up to you to disqualify TWO from round 3a.
Round 3a: Bottom two were sifted out, and Indy500 removed (disqualified!) (NO WINNERS FROM 3A)
Round 3b: Bottom three sifted out, and top 3 made it to the final round.

KNOCKED OUT:
(Round 1): MSF, STT, LW3, RRWWF, rocky and bullwinkle, Baywatch,
(Round 2): DH, LAH, Tommy, NBA Fastbreak, The Flintstones, Stargate
(Round 3a): Indy500 (out due to price range), Black Rose, Jack*Bot
(Round 3b): No Fear, Tales from the Crypt, Jurassic Park

NOW is your chance to vote for your favorite!

ROUND-4 !!!:
(Round 1 winners): FT, BSD, HS2
(Round 2 winners): JM, JD, WCS
(Round 3 winners): DM, DW, T2

Anyone care to try and pick the trifecta now?
-mof

#4 3 years ago

BSD, FT, Getaway

#5 3 years ago

I've owned many of these. I have to say Dredd is the best game there, World Cup Soccer is fantastic, and DW, HS2, and FT are all solid as well. Most of the other games there are ones I wouldn't spend more than $1800ish on, and just aren't as much game.

My top 3: Dredd, WCS, HS2

#6 3 years ago

FT.... will win.

#7 3 years ago

It might actually be more challenging to pick 9th place...

Yes, now bump it.

#11 3 years ago

FT. Still my favorite DMD

should have made this poll so we could vote for 3 choices.

#13 3 years ago

My top three are WCS, BSD, DW. WCS squeaks into the top spot.

#14 3 years ago

Gameplay I give to BSD (mist multiball is so cool) but entire package goes to FT due to its art, humor and best video mode ever, IMO.

My trifecta is FT, BSD and JD.

#15 3 years ago

Between JM and BSD in my head...vote goes to JM

Is that how you would rank them, or is that your prediction?

That is how I would rank them and is hopefully an accurate prediction.

Judge Dredd is the best of the bunch. When it comes to bang for your buck, it has a whole lot of it.

#21 3 years ago

There is good reason why WCS is in at least one bank at PAPA nearly every year. The game is a player and can be "tuned" quite easily to be kid friendly or A-bank evil.

After that:

BSD followed by FT and Dr. Who.

All 4 of those titles are true players.

I was only allowed to vote for one, so it was BSD. I LOVE Demolition Man. But BSD is a better game to me. If I could got for three they would be BSD, Getaway, and Demo Man.

#23 3 years ago

Anyone who didn't vote for FT is wrong

#24 3 years ago

Wow, all good games here. Tough to choose the top 1

I voted judge dredd.
Mostly because in the price range I feel it offers the most bang for your buck. All of the titles listed would be great 1st games for someone just getting into the hobby.
Lots of fun without having a 2nd mortgage.

#25 3 years ago

JM is #1 for me out of the group. Love the ultra fast flow that game brings. BSD is a close second with maybe the best multiball ever. Dracula screaming 30 million at you is the best game play moment of any of those games.

Agreed that JD is probably the most bang for the buck, there is a ton of stuff in that game. Has excellent art, good sound and a unique playfield with fun shots. I don't know exactly what it is about the game that makes it less engaging to me than FT or BSD. Maybe it's that I don't know of any big scoring payouts to go after, so even though the modes are varied, they all score about the same. It may just be that I'm not familiar enough with the rules.

FT is pretty easy to figure out but still challenging and I enjoy it more hence my ranking it higher. Love the crossing ramp shots to set up the Big Fish hurry-up and looping the long cast shot.

BSD is very fun to play but I can't get passed how ugly it is.

#27 3 years ago

WCS is prolly my fav in this group but I will say that JM is the best bang for the buck in the group. I have seen decent JMs go for $1500 - $1700 and that's an amazing price for what you are getting.

#28 3 years ago

I owned a JM for a while. I think it's the fastest game I've played, incredible flow. The glove is a neat feature but slows the game down too much IMO.

What seems like a minor quibble but one of the main reasons I sold the game was the way it bogged down when too much was happening, causing the inlanes to respond so slowly to flipper button presses that you couldn't select the correct lane.

Not that I'm trying to sway opinions or anything.

#32 3 years ago

I'm surprised T2 isn't higher.

Besides the multiball JD isn't that good of a game. I brought one back from the dead, got all excited about it and then sold it in a month.

FT is definitely the top of this list with BSD right there with it.

call these B+ machines?

BSD whoop

#34 3 years ago

goooooooooooalllll

WCS is my choice

#35 3 years ago

FT, HS2, DM.

I still don't understand the love for BSD. Mist Multiball and the best video mode after FT's isn't enough to compensate for the rest of the game.

#36 3 years ago

BSD winning wouldn't be a shock given the love it gets here, but a three-way dead heat for second place is exciting -- this will be fun to watch!

Two smooth and satisfying to hit ramps with separate lock mechanisms. Stacking all multiballs to get 30Mil jackpot shots is always a rush.

#38 3 years ago

Love both BSD and FT. Unfortunately I have never played JD. Given the rest I'd pick DW as my 3rd... but looking forward to finding a JD to play. WCS is a bit too easy. I'm really not even much of a pinball player but last time I found that in the wild I had stacked up so many free games I walked away from it.

#39 3 years ago

Yikes, that's tough...my first thought was BSD, but I still went w/ Dr. Who - the layout is so unique and the Time Expander is so friggin' cool...plus DMD is in Color now, BSD isn't. My top 3 of this lineup is

1. Dr. Who
2. Bram Stoker's Dracula
3. Getaway

#40 3 years ago

I've never played JD, either. I voted for HS2 but BSD, FT, Dr Who, T2, and WCS are great games, too.

not gonna get one in the price range with a color dmd installed

I'm shocked at JD so far...really? I enjoyed my JD but always thought it was a little clunky. I would have guessed it at the bottom or 2nd to the bottom on this list. It's a pretty sweet list of games.

JD = a lot in one table but just isn't fun. BSD as a package falls flat.

The speed and flow of high speed 2 is unmatched. HS2 should be the winner here.

#50 3 years ago

Are there any drops or spinners in the final-9?
I know JD has drops.
