    Quoted from cooked71:

ALE is relatively easy to make which is why there are 15 million "boutique artisan" ALES on the market.
If the OP has an aversion to ALE's he should try some good Lager's and in particular Pilsners which are IMO much better to drink. There are some good boutique Lager's and Pilsners, but its harder to make therefore not as widespread (is more fragile, requires refrigeration and takes longer to ferment).

I agree with this. But therein lies a problem. Craft lagers and pilsners just aren't very good sometimes. Harder to find a good one, and at the price, can be an expensive exercise.

I could really riff a lot on this topic. So much to talk about. I love IPAs and nearly drink them exclusively now. Stone IPA 1.1 is my current go to, and it's really good. I'd avoided it for years, because Stone makes stronger and more exotic varieties of IPA (and other beers, and I like many of them) so I figured their "straight" IPA would be less tasty or something. Boy was I wrong. And at 6.9% it's not too overboard.

I don't like session IPAs at all. Talk about a "watered-down" sensation. Founders makes the best one I've tasted, but it's just not satisfying at all.
