There have been a few topics on the Beastie Boys over the last 7 years on Pinside, but I am interested to know, and maybe some of the pinball manufactures might be interested to know, if there would be any desire for a Beastie Boys pinball.

After the survey discuss what features, who would be the best manufacturer to put this out, what songs should be on the pin etc.

I’m 46 so in the sweet spot age wise for the Beastie Boys. I like the Beastie Boys, but am not a super fan. Consider me an average Beastie Boys listener. With that in mind, I wouldn’t buy a Beastie Boys pin. I can’t quite put my finger on it but it just doesn’t get me excited. That may be in part to the fact that I don’t think I’m the biggest music pin fan. I’ve just heard those songs so many times. I’m not sure why I need to hear them again in a pin. I guess I just like my music and pins separate. I know I’m probably in the minority.

I would love to see Beastie Boys pin made. They have enough upbeat music perfect for playing pinball to. At least 20 songs to give enough variety and justify having their own game. The first company to bring a nostalgic hip hop game to market will see sales in the hundreds. Done right, they could sell at least a thousand machines.

Super fan here. So much great music to include....

    Theme..
    - maybe just go all in on sabotage video.... full 70’s cop show vibe.....
    - go cheesy sci-fi with intergalactic
    - go ac/dc route.... a few toys tied to diff end albums or songs....
    - go Beatles route and just do something with no real toys. Just a great classic layout...

    Toys...
-Spinning disk could be a record with scratch mode....
    - bash the intergalactic monsters.... spooky.... this could be your Godzilla alternative...

Someone reach out to them and make it happen!

    #5 2 years ago

    I cringe at the thought.

I’m sorry to state the obvious here, but the Beastie Boys have a very special place in the fabric of Gen X culture - especially myself.

To reduce their discography and the memory of Adam Yauch (RIP MCA) to little modes on a pinball machine is inappropriate.

The larger-than-life bands whose images have evolved into caricature, sure.

    But the Beasties? No.

That being said, I’d like to pass the mic.

Intergalactic was our introduction song at our wedding reception. Count me in if it ever happens.

    #9 2 years ago

I'd rather see an RTJ pin, but a hip hop pin is way overdue. I'm an old man punk rocker but hip hop is the biggest selling genre of music today, done right could be a hit.
If a beastie pin is made gotta have boomin' granny wizard mode!

    Good luck getting that license.

A police “ghost in the machine” would be way better! Could play up the album theme.

The police! The most un rock and roll band of all time, man I hope you're kidding.
When the police show up the party stops, just the worst name for a rock band ever, and their music is god awful. Terrible dea for a rock themed pin.

    #13 2 years ago

    Theme alone; no.

First 3 albums all timers, can't stand anything after that.

1994 would have been my first year in college and not listening to BB driving around in my friends cars with more woofers than seats smoking weed all day.
    There's probably a connection there.

    Sadly.

Sabotage would have to be the best song and would be killer in a pinball.

The Police musically is God Awful? That is spectacularly stupid. I don't want a police pin but to say the music is awful, wow. What kind of music do u like sir? just out of curiosity?

    #18 2 years ago

    #19 2 years ago

I like them, but not enough for a pin license.

Only so many music themed games I can handle in a collection.

I agree with ya there but still better than the Beastie Boys. Let just be honest here. Its time for this with a Black and White Premium model.

    #21 2 years ago

No. Hell no. We dont need more music pins. I would rather see a Republican/Democrat themed pin. If all music pins going forward were on par with GNR, it wouldnt be so bad, but we really dont need more music pins IMO.

Yeah, I hate the police (the band, don't get yer panties in a twist) I have this argument with my friend Corbett Redford who made the punk documentary Turn it Around ( check it out, Iggy Pop narrates) about who is the worst rock band, the police or Huey Lewis and the news...man I cannot stand either of those bands, makes me want to stab myself in the ears with an icepick when I hear them...and don't even get me started on Toto.
Like I said, old man punker here.
    My 3 favorite bands are
    Nomeansno
    Alice Donut
    The Victims Family

    F the Police (the band!)

I'd definitely would be in on a Beastie Boys pin.

It feels better when they are twisted.

    Quoted from ZooDude:

See here's the problem, Huey Lewis should never be in the same reference as The Police. Huey Lewis is fuckin shit. Toto? come on man. I don't classify The Police as a RnR band either cause they aren't and hate them that's a good thing. I hate a lot and love it but I can recognize musical brilliance regardless of whether or not its of my preferred genre. Never heard of those bands, gonna check em out.

Too many drug references it will never happen.

Just take out all the drug references like all the others there are now, and you will have another perfectly homogenized game for the homogenized people that would rather forget that even in the homogenized 80s, there were still these kind of things going on.

    #29 2 years ago

No thanks, I'm just too old to consider yelling music.

    #30 2 years ago

I love the Beastie Boys. I’d love to see a Beastie Boys pin someday. Strangely another bad ass boy band I’d love to see a pin of would be The Beach Boys.

Meh. There’s stuff like Metallica with Master of Puppets.

    It’s just music

    #32 2 years ago

I wouldn't BUY a BB pin, but I would enjoy playing something with their hits on it.

How bout an 'MTV Classics' pin, that way you could have a few hit songs from various groups from the 80s/90s, and you can cover all styles, rock/rap/pop etc.
Each song's music video could play on the lcd during a mode/goal.

    #33 2 years ago

Only if there was some kind of slow ball drop while the long "WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYY" Sabotage scream was going off at the same time.

    #34 2 years ago

Beastie Boys would be sweet, but I’d love a Yo MTV Raps pin or something mix tape-esque with classic rap.

    Stern: So What'Cha Want?
    Me: Ch-Check it out. A B-Boys Pin.
    Stern: Pass the Mic.
    Me: Oh, yeah. Gratitude.
    Stern: <Sounds of Science> .... Here's a Beastie Boys The Pin!
    Me: Time to Get Ill.

    #36 2 years ago

My desired Features for beastie boy pin.

Sabotage mode- gives you an opportunity to take locked balls from your opponent.

Pass the mic mode - collect all the BB during the mode

Shake your rump - something interesting with the shaker motor

Needs a rotating disc to spin to the scratches on the songs

Hold it now, hit it mode - big points and bonus for hitting target the is designated by an insert which changes to a new target during each out Hold it now hit it chorus.

When I first starting messing with changing the music on my Metallica I changed out all the songs to Beastie Boys’ songs. I was and I guess still am a huge fan of the B Boys from Brooklyn.

However the full swap of songs lasted about 2 weeks. After that I swapped everything out but kept Sabotage for awhile. That song really was awesome to flip too.

Paul Revere? Girls? Brass Monkey? Uhm not so much. I don’t even think I used those songs but even the ones I did use really didn’t seem to work.

That being said I voted “hell ya” anyways.

    #39 2 years ago

You all are coming up with a good list of songs that would be great for pinball. I'm not a Beastie Boys fan, but the tracks would be high energy and perfect for pinball. I'm thinking a Beastie Boys pin has potential and would sell well if done right.

Would buy an LE the minute they announced this title

I'm a white dude from rural SW Missouri. Out of my class of 250+ kids in school, I think I was the only hip hop fan. I was teased mercilessly by all the country listening cowboy boot wearers. I think Licensed To Ill was the first album I ever owned. It's a classic, but I don't listen to it often today. I bought Paul's Boutique when it came out, but I was 12 and it was so different I only listened to it a couple times. Not many hits on that one. I own their next 4 albums, but I've never actually listened to them all the way through. I respect the beastie boys both for their music and the people they are, but they're nowhere near the top of my list of hip hop artists I play on repeat. A lot of their music seems closer to punk than rap. I'd play a Beastie pin, but there are a lot of hip hop themes I'd rather own than them.

The Police are far better than the Beastie Boys. Such a bunch of no talent losers. Sounds like the lead singer hasn't even hit puberty.

I think music pins are fine but I think music supplements pinball games vs should BE the pinball game. I know GnR is pretty impressive but now that it has been done, can you go down that road again? I was first introduced to BB when I was 6th grade - licensed to Ill. I think their best album. I'd like to flip to the music but envision it being part of another pin. People kinda bash GotG but the Cleland mod and 12 different songs with a variety of music always puts a smile on my face. We sing along. And not all of it is fast paced craziness. So many awesome bands that I'd love to hear in upcoming pins that aren't limited to one band. I'd play BB, but wouldn't buy it.

That would be a horrible idea,,,,
